Peter David Update Christmas/Hanukkah Edition

Kath here-

He’s home. He was released from the hospital yesterday and is very happy to be back home.

It was basically a massive infection that he needed hospital grade antibiotics to kick.

His legs are feeling stronger each day. He said he felt no pain this morning while walking around the house so what they did worked.

Now he has to work on getting his legs back into good order. Right now he is good to go around the house. He is working up to getting to a convention in mid January.

Thank you one and all for your words of support and encouragement. We appreciate each and every one of you.

For Caroline and me, the best gift this morning was having Peter home. Although I got a pretty kicking Dr. Strange statue and my parents gave me a copy of the new Labyrinth game.

Hugs your friends and family. Tell people you love that you do love them. Life can change so quickly and regret leaves a bitter taste.

Merry Christmas-
Kathleen O David

  1. SO glad to read this!

You know, I suspected an infection, if only because it sounded a lot like what I went through from a small cat scratch on my left foot but I did not want to sound like Bill McPretenddoctorguy. Vancomicin fixed me up once they got the ok to use it (it is apparently our last resort for some diseases and they don;t want to ruin it the way penicillin was ruined).

It sounds like there was no obvious entry for the germs, which happens. It’s a terrifying glimpse into what will happen if we do not continue to research antimicrobial strategies.

But the important thing is Peter is back home with his family and this should not have any reason to repeat itself. Here’s to a great new year, where all the surprises are goo ones, 2016 having used up the bad surprises quota for at least the next half decade.

  2. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Kath! So glad to hear they got to the root of the problem. Infections can be nasty, nasty things – one of them really weakened my brother’s heart to the point where he needed a valve replacement sooner rather than later.

  3. It’s terrific that Peter made it back home and is getting his strength back. Woot!

And speaking of conventions, did you know that I-CON is back? According to the website http://blog.iconsf.org/ I-CON 32 is being held March 17-19, at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, NY. I wish I could go — I went for over a decade straight from the 1990s-200s — but I’m stuck in NC with medical treatment keeping me down here. If y’all do go, please post lots of pictures!

  4. Hi David Family:

I only really know of Peter from his comic book works.

I don’t collect anymore, but I make it a point of stopping by here every few months just to see what’s up. Have a laugh. Engage in some critical thinking. All that good stuff.

Stopped by yesterday and THIS IS NOT WHAT I COME HERE FOR OMG. My heart went out to all of you. Peter, for obvious reasons. And his family for… well, obvious reasons.

Came by again today to see about an update. Incredibly happy to read this one.

You all deserve nothing but health and happiness. I hope that this is the last such issue that arises for a long, long time.

Happy holidays, and best wishes for a much much better New Years.

    Peace.

  5. Fantiastic news! Glad the infection yielded quickly to the antibiotics, and that the problem wasn’t something intractble. Happy Holidays to all the David hoursehold.

  6. So glad to hear they found the source of the problem! Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the Burnside Clapps. I hope you all have a wonderful rest-of-the-holidays. <3

  7. Congratulations on getting Peter home in time for Christmas. Happyness and joy to you all in this Yuletide season.

  8. I have had infections of the sort described before, and I know they are no trifling matter. A word of warning: keep an eye on it, because they have a nasty habit of coming back. ‘Nuff Said.

  9. Yay, great to hear!
    .
If he’s still on antibiotics, make sure he does the full regimen even if he’s feeling better… my dad kept relapsing because he stopped bothering, and every time he relapsed it got worse.

  10. Like Charlie Griefer above, I only come by here occasionally these days, so I didn’t know about this until today.

I’m so glad that Peter is recovering. I know this must’ve been terrifying for all of you considering what you’ve already gone through. His recovery is definitely the best present you could have.

So Merry Christmas and Happy Channukah, and Happy Birthday to Caroline!

  11. Really, really glad to hear that it was “only” a nasty infection and not something even worse. Very scary, but it sounds like everything’s on the way up. A very happy holiday season to one and all!

  12. I’m also one of the people who only found out about this a short while ago.
    Get well soon, Mr. David.
God bless and keep you all.
And because it can never be said enough: thank you for all the joy your works have brought me through the years.
