Emergency

Can anyone tell me the owner of NY license plate 65232 JN commercial plate. Post here or email me at padguy@aol.com. Right now.

EDITED TO CORRECT LICENSE NUMBER

UPDATED 7:38 PM–
Kath got into a fender bender and the other party was being intransigent about providing information. But it’s all been sorted out since then.

  1. There are sites online that can do license plate lookups but I have not found one that is free.

  2. I know in NY we have a 311 number to get information on Rochester-centric government agencies. So if you wanted to make a noise complaint rather than look up in the phone book the number to call you dial 311. Same with the DMV. You just talk to the operator and tell them what you want. If you have something like that in your town/city they may be able to connect you to an agency that would be able to give you the info. What happened?

  3. Glad that she’s okay (and presumably the other person as well). That’s the only thing that matters.

  4. Way back in ’85 i had a minor accident with a Church’s Fried Chicken company vehicle. It was legally his liability, but the cop said (and i agreed) that the guy couldn’t have seen me until the instant he tapped my front bumper. But it was $600 damage.
    .
I went to their insurance company, the adjustor there appraised the damage and told me i should have a check within a couple of days, as soon as Church’s reported the accident to them.
    .
Long story short, i wound up going ’round and ’round with Church’s “vehicle co-ordinator”, who kept stalling. And not reporting the accident officially to the insurer.
    .
And the insurer couldn’t issue me a check until they did.
    .
Finally, after something like two weeks, with me driving around with a busted front bumper on a two-month-old car, she informed me, rather smugly, that since there wasn’t any ticket, they didn’t have any liability. Clamping a firm hold on my temper, i forbore to attempt to explain the difference between civil liability and the liability that accrued to a ticket, and called the adjustor. (By this time, he and i were almost on first-name terms and getting more and more irritated with his insured.)
    .
He was completely n my side, but he said that if she didn’t file an official report, there was nothing he could do for me.
    .
Without even thinking about how it would sound to him, i sighed and said “I really hate to have to sue…”
    .
He said “Hang on,” and put me on hold. For something like ten minutes.
    .
When he came back, he said “You can stop in any time for your check. I told her that if she didn’t want to report it to us she didn’t have to, since there was no ticket … but that if she didn’t, and you sued – which would be within your rights, and a good chance of winning – we weren’t going to be paying for the defense, as we would if she did report it and you decided you weren’t getting enough and sued.”
    .
Later, i came to suspect that, because Church’s was he client, not me, he couldn’t tell me what to do … but that she had annoyed him enough that he was just waiting and hoping for me to say the right three-letter magic word on my own.
    .
    Sort of like Mr Incredible.

  5. I’m inferring that Kath is okay, as the email just mentions info from a fender-bender, and nothing about a hospital or injuries or “Say a prayer for…” requests. Assuming I’m not wrong (and I *really* hope I’m not), I’m glad everyone involved is okay.

And I have to disagree with Aaron Thall, above. That everyone involved is okay is the most important thing — but it’s not “the only thing that matters.” Even a mild fender-bender can leave a person shaken, nervous, and even unable to drive for a time. If it comes to a lawsuit, that can wind up being a huge drain of time and money. And who knows what plans of Kath’s were delayed or ruined because of this? (If it was a trip to the grocery store, probably not that bad; if it was an important meeting about a big project, potentially very bad.)
