Random Thought for the Day

British actress Alex Kingston: On “Doctor Who,” she played “River Song.” On “FlashForward,” she played “Fiona Banks.” On “Law and Order: SVU” she played “Miranda Pond.”

What IS it with this woman and bodies of water?

    1. In the case of her time on ER, she was from ACROSS THE POND.

      I apologize profusely….

  1. Well, yes, in a way. After all, the historical (Charlotte) Corday was the woman who assassinated Marat while he was taking a bath.

  2. Not sure about her but it reminds me of the early 90’s when there was the Ricki Lake show, The Richard Bey show, and the Jerry Spring-er show for our “viewing pleasure”.

  3. You could also ask what’s with Stephen Moffat and bodies of water/water-related things… River Song, Amelia Pond, Jeffrey MurDOCK from “Coupling” (OK, I admit, that one’s kinda pushing it a bit…), Dan McGILL on “Chalk”…

  4. Actress Kim Delaney had three shows where she went up and down the East Coast.

NYPD Blue, CSI: Miami and Philly.

  5. Me, I wanna know why David Straithairn has played a child molester twice (the HBO movie Judgment and Dolores Clairborne) and why Skip Homeier played a Nazi twice (as a child in Tomorrow, the World! and in the classic Star Trek episode “Patterns of Force”).
    .
I mean, what’s that gotta do to an actor when a casting director takes one look at your headshot and says, “Yeah! Now THAT guy looks like a child molestor!”, or “Hmmm…I think this guy has the ‘Nazi vibe’ we’re looking for!”
    .
Or did they just get those latter parts on the basis of the prior one? Given that Homeier was a child when cast in the prior one, and didn’t get the latter one until 24 years later, I don’t think that’s it.

    1. “why Skip Homeier played a Nazi twice”
      .
So has Ian McKellan (three times if you count Richard III, in which he was a Nazi-esque leader). There’s no great mystery here… if an actor plays enough roles, eventually he’s going to play the same kind of role multiple times.

    2. Just think about poor Michael Ironside .. a dedicated pacifist who can’t get a role that doesn’t have him snarling or toting a plethora of weaponry.

  6. Let’s not forget she has appeared in “Hope SPRINGS,” and in “The Bill,” as “Maggie FISHER!”

  7. If she shows up next in a biography of Veronica Lake, we’ll really know something’s up…

      1. Or maybe she’ll be in a biopic of Joan Rivers. Directed by John Waters.
        .
We should check IMDB to see what else she has on tap.

  8. Off-topic: Peter, is it possible for the RSS feed on this site to be fixed? It’s been down for many months now and I rarely get to read this site anymore because of it.

  9. I’m normally not a follower of astrology, but I’ll have to give it another look if Alex Kingston turns out to be a Pisces…

According to IMDB, her birthday is March 11th. So yes, she is a Pisces.

OK, now you are just baiting me..

  11. I’m sick of all this fish jokes. They serve no porpoise. Are we just telling them for the halibut?

Sorry. Someone had to say them.

      1. FYI: Trolling is a fishing term. It’s what anglers do when they cast out a baited line and slowly draw it through the water to make the fish think it’s prey and pursue it.
(It’s also the basis for the term internet troll. As in “I’m trolling for suckers”.)

I guess my pun was too obscure. I’m not as finny as I thought I was.

I think you mean trawling for fish puns.

        I entry the fray with:
Your pun was not obscure. PAD got it. “Trawling” IS the correct term. Trolling has become an accepted corruption of the original term “Trawl”. But you are very correct in that internet trolls are named after this.

  12. A few days off, but whatever.

She could be trying to break a record or something. Guiness World of Records ‘For Most …’ I haven’t figured out how to end that, but you get the general idea.
