Cowboy Pete Preview

Cowboy Pete will be waiting until the conclusion of the current “River Song” episode before discussing the new incarnation of “Doctor Who,” but in the meantime, here’s a brilliant tribute to Matt Smith’s predecessor which I first saw over on Bleeding Cool. Enjoy. (Warning)–sung profanity at one point, if that makes a difference in terms of where you’re watching it

  1. That was brilliant! Great song selections, esp Sympathy for the Devil for the Master and Time After Time. The bonus track makes it.

  2. I really liked that they mixed in the bits with Christopher Eccleston. Since the first five seasons (counting the specials) were all one run in a lot of ways, it was cool that they found a fun way to acknowledge his part.

  3. I was a little scared to watch this at first, because I didn’t know how much it would give away. I guess my PBS station is about halfway through the Tennant episodes because the unfamiliar scenes started showing up right in the middle of this. I had no idea Rose came back. (Thanks for ruining it.)(I’m just teasing.)
I was surprised they didn’t show Blink at all until the credits at the end. That’s one of the greatest episodes ever. (I just saw it the second time a couple of weeks ago.) I guess they just didn’t have a suitable song for it.

  4. easily the best thing I’ve seen in ages

And who didn’t aww when Ten went and joined Nine.

I think blink was left to the bonus track because the doctor was barely in it.

Plus the song choice for that was soo brilliant.

BTW PAD after seeing the reward Colbert got for best Pun in the world I now understand why you keep making them.

    (Don’t worry I won’t tell Kath)

  5. HAH!

I suppose “The Time Warp” from THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW would have been a little bit too on point? Or “Who Can It Be Now?” from Men at Work.

  6. Strike a pose.. 🙂
    .
Quite frankly, I think the 30 seconds or so of the musical devoted to the finale were considerably more watchable than the full 1 hr 55 mins of twaddle which made up the real thing. (5mins was actually really good – namely thanks to Bernard Cribbins).
    .
I know loads of people who felt RTD’s run was the worst thing to happen to Dr. Who ever, and I know loads more who are utter fanatics. Personally I fall somewhere left of the middle, as most of it was pretty good, parts of it were brilliant and overall I was VERY glad to have it back on our screens
    .
I eagerly look forward to your assesment of the first part of the new one.

  7. Heh Wierd Al got his props.

I’ll miss him, but very pleased with the new Doctor!

  8. It’ll be some time before I get to see the new Doctor (or the remaining episodes of Tennant’s run), but this was kick-ášš coolness on toasted wholegrain wow.
Weird Al and Emimen together…who knew?
And I just about ready to throttle whoever kept playing “All By Myself” ad infinitum along with Nine (just shaking his head).
And Rose do got junk in her trunk.

  9. I don’t know if Cowboy Pete is watching the show on BBC America or using the good old internet to watch the UK episodes, but so far Matt Smith is utterly fantastic in the role.

  10. This was probably the greatest Doctor Who tribute I’ve ever seen. As much as I miss the 10th Doctor.. and Rose… and Donna… with a small bit of Martha… The 11th Doctor is quickly earning my fancy…. and Amy Pond aint so bad either (Gingers must stick together after all).

  11. So, now that “Time of Angels” and “Flesh and Stone” have aired in the US, what are your thoughts on the Eleventh Doctor?

That is the biggest difference I see between 10 and 11. 11 is very quick to anger, and when he’s angry he doesn’t hold back. It happened in the second episode “No one human is allowed to talk to me!” and it happened again when he was yelling at River in “Flesh and Stone.”

  12. Aw that was a fun lookback. The bonus track rocked, lol. We (in New Zealand) have had the new series on for the last three weeks on free to air, and I like the new guy….but i miss David’s easy going Doctor.

I have always loved this tribute to the two former “new” doctor’s, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUld2qcyNpw

Murray Gold’s music almost always adds the right amount of atmosphere.

Anywaym can’t wait to see what PAD thinks.
