With Ariel preparing to go to college, we wound up having one last family overnight. Friday night I took Ariel to see “Hair” while Kathleen took Caroline to see “The Lion King.” The family then stayed over at the Marriott Marquis. The next morning, as with her sisters before her, Caroline got to go to the American Girls store and get her own American Girls doll. Then in the afternoon we all went to see “The Little Mermaid”–
GODDAMMIT! A TRIPLE PLAY?!? TWO MEN ON, NO OUTS, DOWN TWO RUNS, AND THEY HIT INTO A GAME-ENDING, UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY?!? SON OF A BÍTÇH!!!!
–and had a really great time. It’s a shame the show’s closing the end of the–
I KNOW THEY’RE “AMAZING,” BUT WHO NEEDS THIS KIND OF AMAZEMENT?!?!

I know how you feel. I was agog reading the sports section this morning.
Ariel’s going to college?
As if looking in the mirror didn’t make me feel old enough…
Congratulations to Ariel. It’s hard to believe the baby born just before Imzadi came out is now going to college. Where the heck have the years friggin’ gone???
What is she majoring in, Peter? Does she know yet?
Did you guys dine at The View while at the Marriott?
Btw, Peter, can someone tell me how to make paragraph breaks with this blog format, and whether you’ll be adding a Preview function? 🙂
There doesn’t appear to be a way to make paragraph breaks.
.
But what most of us have been doing is to put a period, then Enter, after each paragraph.
.
It makes for a slight bit more work, but makes reading so much easier.
Thanks, Alan.
Triple plays happen almost at random. While it’s definitely the sort of thing that seems to be happening every day to the Minaya Mess and Infirmary, it was more or less a fluke.
What burns me up is Awful Ollie once again turning Citi Field into Citizens Bank Launching Pad.
I didn’t realize that Ariel was going to college this year. Congratulations, I know that she will do very well.
What a nice end-of-summer outing. I’ve heard that Hair is a great musical, as well as TLM. 🙂
Sorry about your ballgame ending. LOL.
Thats the play my 8 year old dreams he makes during our stickball games on the street. Unbelievable.
As a fellow Mets fan I felt your pain yesterday. There were so many Phillies fans at the stadium you’d think you were watching a game played in Philly.
College for Ariel already? Holy Moley!
As long as Caroline’s not going to college any time soon, I don’t feel too old.
College?!!!
.
Ariel has totally ignored her responsibility to stay a little girl forever, thus keeping the rest of young via sympathetic magic.
.
I’m counting on you Caroline. Goodness I feel old. Doesn’t help that my birthday was yesterday.
I feel the same way whenever I see the Yankees keep winning. Ðámņ Yankees.
A large part of the country feels that way about the Yankees. 😉
Considering how many people hate the Yankees, I still can’t believe that they have enough fans to fill out the stadium every single night. The only person I know who likes the Yankees is Turtle on Entourage, and Turtle is a jerk.
Say, that reminds me. I’m a Clevelander, so my favorite team is the Indians (no, shed no sad tears for me… 🙂
But do you know who my second favorite team is?
WHOEVER IS PLAYING THE YANKEES!!!
Although it makes it REALLY tough to decide who to root for with those Red Sox – Yankees games (they’re up to like 102 games a year now, aren’t they?) So I root for the umps. “Make that bad call!” “Catch him balking! CALL THAT BALK, YOU BUM!!!”
I remain,
Sincerely,

I tend to check the MLB pitch-by-pitch coverage on my smartphone (love my Palm Pre), and had been grumbling for some time how the Phils should designate Bruntlett for assignment. I like the guy, but having no bat of late, combined with the fact that he, the main defensive replacement on the team, has been error-prone of late …
Then he gets a game-ending unassisted triple play. I shrug.
It’s no fun needling my Brooklyn-born Mets fan coworker this year; his team is so snakebitten (is ANYONE not injured?!? Right after the further demoralizer of the tri-play, out comes news of Santana’s and Francoeur’s injuries), I just have to sympathize.
Ah, well.
(Go Phillies!)

… Ariel’s in college. Hoo boy. Time, she sho’nuff do fly.
This year’s Mets team is like the Final Destination movies. Only instead of Death it is Injury hunting down the team
.
Omar will be the Ali Larter of the first movie.
.
Now just try to get a picture of Omar Minaya in a whip cream bikini out of your head. I dare you.

Step right up and beat the Mets . . . .”

BTW, Peter the Dragoncon schedule is up. Looks like I’ll be starting the con with Shatner and Nimoy and ending it with you (and I mean that in a good way).
