  1. Tina Fey. Bill Shatner. Somewhere, an actor is just waiting for Palin to give another speech.

  2. Oh look, someone’s making fun of Sarah Palin. Wow. I haven’t seen anyone ever make fun of her before.

    1. Well, if someone makes such a big target of themselves, it’d be a shame to let it go to waste…

      1. Then again, as the lead character in the WAITING FOR GOD series put it in response to someone complaining she’s having fun taking cheap shots:

“Fun? It’s no fun if it’s too easy, and you lot are sitting ducks, aren’t you?”

Palin isn’t just a “sitting duck”, she’s got both feet wedged in large, concrete vats, with a targeting laser designator aimed right at the bullseye painted on her forehead.

    2. Anyone can make mere fun of Palin.

But that… was something higher than mere mockery.

    3. There’s a difference between simply making fun of someone and raising mockery to an artform.

  3. I love William Shatner as much as any Star Trek fan, Peter, but I’ve never associated him with any sort of quality artform.

      1. Okay, just checked out some of “The Andersonville Trial.” Same old Shatner with his Captain Kirk pauses and inflections. He doesn’t strike me as any more “artful” than he was in any episode of TJ Høøkër.

      2. Darin, you REALLY need to see the whole thing. You can’t offer any sort of reasonable critique after, I dunno, catching a few scenes on Youtube. Shatner is nothing less than brilliant in it.

  4. You’re right, PAD. Maybe I’ll check it out. But here’s the thing with me. Forgetting for a moment that I do like Sarah Palin and what she has said while campaigning, the overwhelming volume of Sarah Palin mockery, jokes and mean-spirited “humor” out there makes this latest jab at her by Shatner seem old hat. If they really do want her to go away, they should let her go away.

    1. Nobody can “let” her go away because she isn’t trying to go away. She isn’t leaving the public eye in the slightest. She’s leaving the governorship, but she’s pursuing a media career.

    2. I have little sympathy for Sarah Palin. Whether she was allowing campaign crowds to scream, “Kill him!” regarding Obama, whinging that she was being ill-used by the media, making a cause celebre out of a joke on David Letterman, or coming up with a lame-ášš excuse to quit her job, this has consistently been a woman who has brought all of her troubles upon herself and been resolute in placing the blame elsewhere. As for this “latest jab by Shatner,” I think it far more likely that Conan’s writers or Conan himself came up with it. Shatner was simply the instrument for the gag, and he was parodying himself as much as anyone else, deliberately evoking his past ill-advised forays into poetry.

  5. Y’know, seeing how short the Shat really is was quite surprising. Of course, standing next to Conan O’Brien didn’t really help at all…

  6. I think Shatner gets unfairly criticized for his acting. He has a style that is his own. It works for him. And anytime someone says he is a bad actor I remember his eulogy of Spock in The Wrath of Khan when he said, “Of all the souls I’ve encountered in all my travels, his was the most… human.” His voice cracked on human and he looked as though he had been hit in the face with a 2 x 4. I don’t care in that scene took 17 takes. It was amazing and he should have been nominated for best actor.
