Dragon*Con So far

Dragon*Con so far has been its usual amazing combination of controlled chaos, with tons of people everywhere, fans decked out in hall costumes that are better than what you see in most masquerade competitions, and a steady flow of enthusiastic fans.

This evening I MC’d the Dragon*Con Awards ceremony in which the organizers present special plaques to the designated guests of honor. A surprise to me, however, was the winner of the Julie Award, an award conceived of by Dragon*Con some years back in honor of Julie Schwartz. It’s given for achievement in a variety of media, and past winners have included Harlan, Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon. This year–and I suspect it’s why Con organizer Pat Henry wanted me as MC–I was the recipient of the award. I couldn’t be more pleased, although it serves to remind me of just how much I miss him.

  1. Congratulations! I would imagine that Mr. Schwartz himself would have been delighted with the choice.

  2. Mazel Tov, Peter. When Julie originally told me that the award was given for achievement in multiple fields, I figured it would only be a matter of time before you won. I’m sure Julie would be very pleased with their selection of you as this year’s recipient.

  3. All hail Peter David, the KING OF ALL MEDIA!

Um, well, in sci-fi/fantasy, that is.

    That is, for this year.

    🙂

  4. Oh dear Peter, oh dear, oh dear oh dear . . .
    Josh Whedon . . .
    Oh dear . . .
    Still, congratulations David Peter.

  5. Ah, I was wondering if we were going to receive a D*C update from you ^_^. Congratulations on the award.

Circumstances made it impossible for me to attend this year, so I’ve missed all your great panels. Oh, well; holding my breath until DragonCon 2008! 🙂

  6. Just got in from day 4 and am very tired. Had a great great time at the show and even snagged a nice spot for my table. Had a blast sharing the panel with you, Dan, and Sean on Sunday, Peter. Much fun.

  7. Congrats, Peter. Wish I could have been there (especially since Prometheus Radio Theatre won a Parsec Award! Woo-hoo!).

  8. Grats, PAD. We’ve got friends that went this year…not sure how many Selene’s from Underworld there were this year, but she was one of them…and all her stories are making us very jealous. Once the kids get big enough to leave with a gramma or uncle for a weekend, we’ll have to make the trip. Sounds like a blast.
