  1. I love how Linda–er, I mean LIN–wore blue jeans and had the red cloak wrapped around her neck like a cape. But I don’t remember her dropping so many F-Bombs back in the day…

  2. Layla ruled, as always. I absolutely love it when an author can plot out a complex series of events like that. Great work, as always. X-Factor is the only X-Men comic I read, and I would never have known how great a job you do had I not caught it during the CW event. Crossovers do work!

  3. Peter,

I really enjoyed both titles, though my favorite is FA. These past two issues have been a true fanboy geek session.

  4. Loved them both!

I dread the day Lin leaves Fallen Angel though. Or is she sticking around after the current Arc?

Looking forward to seeing who else is in the X-Cell. Blob, Calisto, Fatale (I can’t believe you remembered the Dark Descendents!), and Marrow! I don’t recognize that kid though, is he new?

  5. I loved Rictor’s interrogation and Layla calling the shots. For a walking plot device she’s consistently a lot of fun.

  6. Words wouldn’t work to convey the coolness contained on the primary page of the publication (i.e. the awesome and amusing alliteration).

“Bring back the Blob!” I’ve been bellowing, hence I was hugely happy. It makes me mad that Ms. Miller is a minor, plus purely a picture on paper, due to my deepening deification of this distaff (additionally, attraction to).

I don’t seem to have the vocabulary to keep this up, so I’ll just go on to say that I’m worried about Ric and what Pietro has planned for him, curious about why Layla would react the way she did to Nicole, also curious about who the freaky dude with the glowing eyes we saw in France turns out to be and if he’s gonna play a part in this particular story arc. Good to see Callisto again, too.

Of course, it was also brilliant how what seemed to be busywork given to the team by Layla ended up combining to stop the escape of the Blob and Fatale.

I really have no negative criticism of my own, so I’ll borrow somebody else’s. Dude going by “loganalpha30x3” on the comixfan.com forums stated around the time issue #17 came out “Hmm…it seems that every time that PAD has one of his characters doing something wrong it doesn’t really come back to bite them.”

He’d previously cited the incident with the drunk and horny Madrox…how after he came clean with Monet and his defenestration at her hands, Monet and Terry flew off to Paris, Jamie went on a trip of his own and got nabbed by Hydra, and it was eventually forgotten about. In #18 we see Jamie, Terry and Monet reunited but they have a potential crisis on their hands so there’s no time for them to deal with it, if they’re still thinking about it at all.

There’s also Monet’s crimes in Paris. Is she going to have to answer for them eventually? Will anything happen to her father as a result of her actions? Or will it be forgotten about since she was able to jet outta there without being apprehended? Monet walking in and saying “Hi, we’re back. We brought a French refugee ex-mutant with us,” was funny, but realistically you’d expect at least some of the others to ask her how it happened and what the hëll she was thinking, just like Siryn protested when she originally made the decision to take Nicole. When things calm down, this is gonna be addressed and they’re gonna talk about whether or not it’s a good idea to keep Nicole around and whether Monet was right to bring her, aren’t they?

I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here, PAD, but I have to admit that loganalpha30x3 sort of seems to have a point.

Other than that, it was awesome!

  7. Great issue again. Its always funny how Layla plays chess with real people.
Its seems that french girl must have somehow be connected to chaotic forces. Since so far only people who are connected to “chaos” or “order” where able to evade Laylas predictions.

What i wonder is why she helps X-Factor locating X-Cell even after she knows that X-Cell will destroy itself.
However still good to see the depowered ones reapear somewhere. Its also funny to see her in her old morlock clothes instand of those from New Excalibur and Extreme X-men.

Sad thing that Marrow is now official depowered (so far it was not clear), also why is she a terrorist again? Or is she not?
Anyway somehow i rather excepted her to be in the Morlock arc of Ed Brubaker?
Oh and what was the sudden aperance of her? Will she play an important role or will she just be beaten up by M and Siryn on the first pannel?

Last thing what is that little boy really doing in X-cell? So far he sounded more like a little boy who lost his toy and wants its back (“hey i used to be awesome”) he looks wrong in an organisation with experinced criminals like Fatale and Blob (especialy Blob who used to hang around with the big mutant criminals).

Anyway can’t wait a month till the next issue.

You go back to Logan what’s-his-face and you tell him two things for me:

    1) I find his lack of faith disturbing.

    2) Ask him how he likes his words cooked, because by issue #21, he’s going to be eating a big heaping plate of them.

    PAD

  9. I guess the problem with writing well is that the amount of negativ critic is rather low.

So does that mean the sh** is already flying and will hit the fan by issue 21?

  10. You go back to Logan what’s-his-face and you tell him two things for me:

    1) I find his lack of faith disturbing.

    2) Ask him how he likes his words cooked, because by issue #21, he’s going to be eating a big heaping plate of them.

    LOL, okay, I’ll do that.

  11. X-Factor is the only X-title worth printing. Everything else should get canceled. Immensely addictive and satisfying. Not unlike a good shot in the arm.

Fallen Angel is, well another matter. Read the entire run from DC. Haven’t had the chance to buy the ones from IDW. Slow-paced plot and forgettable characters.

Don’t beat me up on that. I know where you live.

  12. I should clarify that the questions about whether or not anything would happen to Monet as a result of what she did in Paris was all mine, instead of coming from the guy I previously mentioned. If there is any genuine resentment here as a result, I feel it’s important to make sure there’s no confusion over who said what. Even if I may disagree with my fellow fan over some things, I don’t want him to be the sole recipient of suffocation via the Force for his insolence (you know, the “lack of faith” comment, ah never mind…)

When I read the issue, which I enjoyed as you already know, I thought “Huh, nobody’s really concerned about Nicole’s presence instead of Layla. Jamie isn’t, for example, saying “You WHAT?! Great, just great, on top of all this you illegally took a girl out of France and we’re gonna have to probably deal with that too…Monet, what the #$%@?!” And that’s when I remembered what the other guy said about things not coming back to bite characters.

To be fair, this is a case of something not coming back to bite a character in the ášš immediately.

On another note, I’d forgotten about Rictor’s interrogation until I noticed tom daylight’s post. I agree, that was frickin’ hilarious. But it brings up a question: if Val’s gonna have trouble getting the song out of her head, does that mean she’s got kids?

  13. Of course I meant “nobody’s concerned about Nicole’s presence EXCEPT for Layla.” Preview, Rob, always preview…

  14. Quincy’s New England Comics told me “Fallen Angel didn’t ship.”

And, as they are a Friend of the Angel, I have to assume they told me the truth.

Did anyone else have this problem?

  15. “What did the end of X-Factor have to do with Friendly N’hood Spiderman???”

There was a theory that the character Miss Arrow (M. Arrow) in FNS was really Marrow. Marrow actually has some history with Spidey, having fought him way back in a mid-90s issue of Uncanny X-Men.

  16. I’m loving the story in Fallen Angel, but I really dislike the new artist’s style. Sorry.

  17. Er… I wasn’t expecting the new FA so quickly on the heels of the last (or else I lost track of time again… that happens when you have a 3-month old in the house :).

Anyway, rushed into my store first thing this morning and… they were sold out! All six copies. He ordered me another copy, but… that’s never happened with a FA issue before, not at this store. Usually there’s at least one copy hanging over into the next month.

He was surprised, too. Said all six went to different people, not a single collector-type. Maybe it’s the “Lin buzz” (sorry, couldn’t resist)? Or maybe my proselytising is paying off.. to my detriment. Or the fact that it’s an excellent book.

Anyway, I look at that as good news for the comic in general, but I’ll have to be more on my toes henceforth (unfortunately, the shop doesn’t do pull lists for fewer than 3 titles, and FA is the only one I’m interested in right now).

    Neil.

  18. So I guess Benny as oldest resident is supposed to be the snake from the garden of Eden?
Has this been confirmed, or just hinted?

  19. Rahne is pregnant?!?!?

    😉
Just read #17 & 18. Interesting developments but man was the art out of synch. More Rahne!!

  20. Rahne is pregnant?!?!?

No, no, no, she’s a VAMPIRE. Gets your facts straight. ^_^

  21. There are three comic book characters who can be relied upon to say something at least once per issue that cracks me up (or, rather, there are three comic book writers who can be relied upon to write at least one line of dialogue per issue for one particular character that cracks me up): Ragdoll from the Secret Six, Molly Hayes from Runaways, and Layla Miller. This issue it was her “I haven’t decided yet” line, which still makes me chuckle when I think about it. Thanks for that. I wasn’t crazy about the last issue — it read more like someone trying to write like Peter David than Peter David himself — but this issue was a return to form. I’m not sure about the art, though. Last issue it was stated that Elijah Cross is only three and a half feet tall, but the artist draws him taller than that.

  22. >>Rahne is pregnant?!?!?
    >No, no, no, she’s a VAMPIRE. Gets your facts straight. ^_^

Would the former necessarily be exclusive of the latter? I’m thinking probably. How can ‘undead’ get pregnant? But, on the unlikely chance a female vampire did get pregnant, would the kid automatically be a vampire as well? I foresee some unpleasant technical difficulties if that were the case.

    /end aside

But, on the unlikely chance a female vampire did get pregnant, would the kid automatically be a vampire as well? I foresee some unpleasant technical difficulties if that were the case.

I guess Rahne could’ve become pregnant and then got bitten by a vampire, like Blade’s mom. *shrugs* But my sources tell me that she’s just another sterile, hirsute, vampire.

If this information is correct, then I wonder who she roots for when she watches “Underworld”…

But, on the unlikely chance a female vampire did get pregnant, would the kid automatically be a vampire as well? I foresee some unpleasant technical difficulties if that were the case.

I’ve tried very hard to block much of it out of my memory, but Angel explored this possibility rather extensively in seasons 3 and 4…

X-factor and FA were good as usual, although the art wasn’t working for me real well in either. Not disastrous, though. I’m getting a pretty big kick out of “Lin,” although I’m pretty sure I got every last issue of Supergirl in one form or another, so I’m a pretty easy sell.

  25. I love X-Factor and agree that it is the best X-Book out there. It’s too bad that PAD can’t just transfer these characters over into an actual X-men title and keep the whole film noir Mutant Town theme running. Sales would hit the roof and I’m sure there wouldn’t be so much artist hopping going on. Speaking of artists, what happened to Raimondi? Are we going to see a swapping of artists on different story arcs? This book deserves the best illustrators possible, and I’m not really feeling this Pham guy all that much. His work is too cartoony compared to the previous realistic, moody look. I think that Raimondi and Sook (if you could get him back!) would be the perfect pair to take turns with penciling chores on alternating storylines. Just my two cents. Keep up the great work.

  26. “This book deserves the best illustrators possible, and I’m not really feeling this Pham guy all that much.”

Well,I happen to like him, but ultimately that doesn’t matter. Art on “X-Factor” is like weather in Scotland: You don’t like it? No problem. It’ll change pretty quickly no matter what.

  27. No Gametes for the Undead!

Technically one must die to become undead, and the dead cannot provide their unborn with nourishment for very long…I think…?

    More Rahne!!!

  28. A random, silly, X-Factor-related question for you, if you don’t mind?

I recently borrowed my roomie my MadroX and X-Factor (Vol.1) TPBs to read, and when we were discussing the former book, we couldn’t agree on how it’s pronounced. I’ve always pronounced it like “mad-rocks” (having no idea if it’s correct or not), but she insists that because it’s French in origin that it should be “mah-drow.” Which I’d *never* heard before. (And in X-3 it was pronounced “madrix” or something.)

So I was just wondering…which way do *you* pronounce it…?

(And while I’m on the topic — is Rahne pronounced like “rain” or like the name “renee”?)

    Thanks. 🙂

  29. Rahne’s name is pronounced “rain,” but for years I thought it was pronounced like “raw knee.” Therefore a lot of lines went straight over my head, such as the one in the classic X-Factor #87 (vol. 1) where she says she fell asleep watching Rain Man and heard a voice in her dreams saying “I’m an X-cellent mutant, I’m an X-cellent mutant!” or something.

As for Jamie, I’m pretty sure it’s “mad rocks” like you said. Jamie has a dupe who used the alias “John Maddox”, which is similar to that pronunciation.

We could ask PAD, but he pronounced “Magneto” wrong in that one podcast, so clearly he’s a giant ignoramus (I kid, I kid. Please don’t ban me). :p

  30. To the best of my knowledge it’s pronounced “Mad-jrox.”

Curiously, no one ever asks me if his first name is pronounced “HY-mee.”

And yes, Rahen is pronounced as “rain.” Why else would I write a graphic novel called “Rahne of Terra”?

    PAD

  31. Why else would I write a graphic novel called “Rahne of Terra”?

Not a day went by, back when I didn’t know how to say her name, that I didn’t ask myself that question and wonder if the universe had gone mad.

  32. Yeah I know Marrow and Spidey have history during the whole Operation Zero Tolerance thing, I just didn’t know the M. Arrow stuff cause its the spider book I never catch…

  33. Well,I happen to like him, but ultimately that doesn’t matter. Art on “X-Factor” is like weather in Scotland: You don’t like it? No problem. It’ll change pretty quickly no matter what.

Layla and Marrow didn’t look quite right, but aside from that I thought the art was every bit as good as Mr. Raimondi’s.

Danj70, there was a copy at Newbury Comics in Newton, last week. Maybe the Newbury Comics in Braintree has a copy.

  35. Wow, Fallen Angel is fantastic!! Two weeks ago I got #14, And I couldn’t wait for #15!!!!! Wow, can’t wait to see where is this going…

  36. Oh, finally! My local store got their new FA #15 copies in (having previously sold out). I enjoyed it very much. Not exactly where I expected the story to go… but that’s what I always like about FA. 🙂
