  1. I’m really looking forward to the Hulk’s return after these few months away. I’m certainly looking forward to the somewhat non-traditional artwork of Jae Lee. Can’t wait.

  2. I really enjoyed Jae Lee’s work on THE INHUMANS maxiseries a few years back. But to be honest, I would buy any issue of THE INCREDIBLE HULK that is written by Peter David no matter who or what the artist. Even Rob Liefield.

  3. Well, at least I know what the characters look like already, so Jae’s murkworks won’t make the story totally incomprehensible like they did in Transformers vs GIJoe. Looking at Jae Lee’s art is like watching Sienkiewicz’s transition from Marvel House Style to Insane Bat Sh*t Crazy Art, only without as much artistic merit involved.

  4. Wow, that’s great!
I like his style alot and he might be a really great fit for a tragic love story by you.
I’m really looking forward to this issue (and the rest of your new and upcomming ron on the Hulk)!

  5. That’s freakin’ AWESOME!

I was really sad that I couldn’t in good conscience pick up the THING VS. HULK mini that he just did. But good God, after his HULK run I never want to read Bruce Jones again…

(Interestingly, I quite enjoyed the beginning of his run. Don’t know if it got worse, got old, or I just wised up.)

  6. Having recently gone through (and disposed) of my Leifeld “collection,” I can honestly say I’d skip a David/Leifeld collaboration.

Sorry PAD, but not even your writing could get me to accept paying to support a guy who is both talentless (compared to a ton of other artists) and also one of the main reasons why I think comics are struggling today.

  7. I’m really looking forward to this run on the Hulk. Jae Lee has a uniqe style and it should be great for this issue.

  8. Is this issue one more than we had previously been promised? More PAD Hulk is definitely a good thing, and since I’ve bought hardly any issues of the title since Peter left, it will be very easy for me to pretend they never existed. I find it easier and easier to pretend that comic books I don’t care for never existed as more and more of the ones that are published are better left forgotten.

I don’t think Jae Lee is a bad artist, but I don’t think his style is particularly well suited for superheroes, nor do I care for the way he reinterprets the looks of established characters. I think he would be great on a horror title that didn’t feature any preexisting characters, but I could go the entire rest of my life without ever seeing his portrayal of Ben Grimm again.

Well, I’m not sure why you’re telling me you’re sorry since I’m not the one who talked about teaming up with Rob, nor do I have any plans to. So it’s not like you’re letting me down in any realistic sense. But, okay, if apologizing makes you feel better, knock yourself out.

I have to say, though, with all the reasons that comics ARE in trouble, I wouldn’t hang a whole lot on Liefeld by this point.

  10. Anyone else think the Hulk about to go on a bloody rampage? Whenever Peter does a tragic love story whether in prose form, like the Apropos novels, or in comic book form like Fallen Angel I

  11. I enjoyed Jae Lee’s art on Namor The Sub-Mariner.

I’m glad to see that Peter is writing The Hulk again and will pick up the title as long as this is so.

The Sam Kieth issue with Mr. Hyde is one of my favorites from the run.

Well, I’m not a big fan of Jae Lee’s art, either. The combination of his work and Bruce Jones’ writing is pretty much par for the course as far as I’m concerned. Despite my being a long-time Hulk fan, I have no reason whatsoever to pick up Hulk/Thing: Hard Knocks, mini or trade.

However, I am THRILLED that PAD is writing the Hulk again. “Tempest Fugit” looks incredible! 😀

    Two words: trade paperback

  14. While I have loved a lot of Jae Lee’s work in the past, his artwork on the current Hard Knocks LS has really disappointed me. The Hulk and Thing (especially the Thing) just look too darn weird for me. The only saving grace is that Peter mentions the word moody so maybe it will be a darker tone on the book, which Jae Lee’s artwork fits better with.

  15. How’s that for coincidence. I’ve been re-reading PAD’s ‘X-Factor’ run this week. Just got to the ‘X-cutioner’s Song’ issues this evening.

  16. Okay I found this site 2 days ago and have also lost track of what is going on with the comics scene and got one question…

Peter are you back on the Hulk?

  17. Mr. David, I loved your Hulk stuff and look forward to the new stuff. However, I am not a big Jae Lee Hulk fan (nothing personal to him, I am sure he is a great guy). The Hulk/Thing mini does not look great. The story isn’t that great either, so far. If Marvel is smart, they will keep you on Hulk as long as you will take it.

    Thanks,
    F-

  18. I’m a little disappointed… Jae Lee can be great for some stuff, but his Hulk in “Hulk/Thing” looks like a wrinkled old man.

    > The Hulk/Thing mini does not look great. The story isn’t that great either, so far.

What story would that be? 😉

  19. Jae Lee, huh? The only guy who could get me to buy Namor (this was way back). Looking forward. Splotchy beauty. Heh.

  20. I thought that Jae Lee’s work on the Hulk/Thing mini-series was absolutely horrible. I don’t think that I will be picking up this issue. Sorry PAD.

  21. Jae Lee art is definitely hit and miss with me, but his style should work perfectly for a “moody, self-contained tragic love story”.

I’m definitely salivating for new PAD Hulk stories!

  22. I agree with Chris. Lee’s art would seem to suit “moody” and “tragic” very well. For those who think he’s a bad artist (rather than just an artist who doesn’t mesh with their particular tastes, a very different thing), I suspect you may not understand what you’re viewing (which, again, isn’t the same thing as not liking what you’re viewing). His foundation is very solid and professional.

  23. Well, I can honestly say Im not a fan of Jae Lee given his recent depictions of the Hulk and Thing in Hard Knocks, but I’ll pick up the book to support PAD.

  24. Jae Lee did a wonderful job on a mini-series called Hellshock… sorta cross between the Crow with the art of Bill Siekewich(I know I mispelled that) when he was on New Mutants.
But as I’ve said before… art? bahhh… who needs art? Waiting for the story.
And yes, Brian, Peter is back on the Hulk for six issues (at least).

  25. Well, I remember Peter and jae working in X-Factor, but these were different times, Lee seemed a clone of Simon Bisley(especially in every panel with Bishop). I enjoyed reading the Inhumans limited, but other works of Lee dissapointed me, for example the Transformers/G.I. Joe mini

  26. Okay I found this site 2 days ago and have also lost track of what is going on with the comics scene and got one question…

    Brian,

Here is a link with info on what is going on:

Short version: PAD got asked to write a mini-series, but then they changed their minds and put his story into the regular title. Not sure yet how long he will be writing it (I am sure sales is a factor).

  27. I know this isnt for this section but just wanted to say that the new Star Trek New Frontier book After the Fall by PAD is AMAZING! I read it in 2 days.

I am never dissappointed by New Frontier! Its amazing!

Now I just want to read the next one! Well just had to say that.

  28. Glad to have you back Mr. David? What are the chances of you staying with the Hulk title for longer than 6 issues. Being a die-hard Hulk fan I feel as if I have been wading inthe abyss for so long. Thank you so much for coming back.

I loved your novel, What Savage Beast, any chance of that story making it’s way to comic book form. I think that book would be a kick ášš 12 issue arc that would set the industry on fire. If know of you have read this book it is an absolute must for any Hulk fan, you won’t put it down. All I am going say is, Hulk and Betty have a son.

Once again thank you for your return and no disrespect to the artist, the story makes the book.

  29. Jae Lee is the perfect artist for a moody or tragic story. I’ll be picking this one up for sure, even though I’m not a Hulk fan.

  30. Mark Millar said on Fanboy Radio today that Hulk, Thor, and Fantastic Four will be getting new, high-profile creative teams by the summer.

So PAD, does this mean you are NOT continuing as the ongoing writer?

  31. I’m afraid that I don’t like Lee’s art. If he was doing the entire series, I would have to skip it.

  32. While I know that Axel Alonso is not editing Peter David’s issues of THE INCREDIBILE HULK, I have not read that he has left the book. If Axel is going to return to the title, then we should all expect one of Axel’s stable to take over the writing chores. What a shame.

  33. Lets hope that Marvel have learnt their mistake (by letting a bunch of people take over one of their premier characters who honestly do not understand him at all) and we can look forward to great Hulk stuff on the horizon. Of course the art can still suck- look at the news of Jae Lee on Hulk whos’ obviously never seen a picture of Hulk in his life!!
