Son of an itch

So I’ve got this stupid toe fungus on my right big toe, like the kind you’ve seen in the commercials. You know, where the anthropomorphic germ is snickering about having set up shop in someone’s toe, and he’s got a little briefcase and lots of smiling friends.

So the doctor prescribed this stuff called “Sporanox.” You take it for some months and it’s supposed to clear up the fungus…provided it doesn’t destroy your liver. But since I don’t drink booze, my liver’s in pretty good shape.

So I take it for two, three days and I’m doing okay.

Day four, I’m starting to itch.

Day five…hives. All up and down my arms, on my chest, base of my neck. I haven’t felt this miserable and uncomfortable since I had chicken pox when I was fifteen.

I stopped taking the stuff immediately, am using everything from Benadryl to calimine lotion to an oatmeal bath to cope with the rash, and I cannot warn folks strongly enough that if the doctor recommends Sporanox, stay the hëll away.

  1. Gawwd, my heartfelt sympathy here Cowboy Pete. The ‘cure’ worse then the original trouble. My sis lost her kidneys years ago (she is on donated #3) and Advil almost killed her, so even though I have no serious health problems (knock wood) I won’t have it in the house. Get better soon,
    Carl

  2. I feel your pain, dude. Same problem. My doctor said I’m pretty much screwed, although my liver seems to be too angry about the 50 extra pounds I’m toting around for me to take the antibiotic from hëll.

  3. The past month of my life has been horrible! I got a wisdom tooth infection. I was on a narcadic and an antibiotic. I started getting the hives, but luckily they didn’t itch & never got any worse. Then 4 days after I got off of the medications… I went and got the tooth removed. The hives got even worse with the next batch of antibiotics & narcadics. then finally when I was off of the medicine, the hives went away. Now almost right after I lost the hives, all of my food almost seems to go right thru me. I can’t keep anyting in my body. Gotta Go… Gotta Go… Gotta Go RIGHT NOW! Today still having upset stomach, but I’ve also gained a new strain of the itchys. These don’t look anything like the hives that I’ve had b4. These itch like crazy and started out looking swallen and white. *Sigh!* Someone please give me some good advice, b/c at this point I’m really scared of going to the doctors and recieving anymore medicines.

  4. I’m guessing toe fungus is no longer a problem for Mr. David, since it’s been what two years…? But, for anyone who accidently ends up here after searching for anti-fungals…Before you try anything with plausible side affects: Go to nearest health store, buy small flask of 100% TEE TREE OIL. Apply on toe, preferably where the fungi is located. Use cotton swab or whatever. Tee tree is antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflamatory. The australian aboriginals have been using it for a while…And so have I.
