We’re allowing people to post comments without registering with TypeKey, thanks to the hard work of Jay Allen and MT-Blacklist.

Here’s hoping it works. If it does, we can go back to the way it was, where everybody was posting with wild abandon and flamewars started daily and bandwidth was being consumed at an ungodly rate…

…uh, Peter, are we sure we want to do this again?

    PAD, finally read the Psi-Man series. Enjoyed it and was surprised to see Justice in it. That David Peters guy was all right.

  9. Very cool! I’m glad that its going back to people not having to sign up. For some reason, I just couldn’t get signed up with TypeKey. I’m glad to be posting here again!

    Btw, I read Star Trek: New Frontier Book 1-4 recently and thought it was great! Star Trek should be like this series! The cast and story are awesome. Mackenzie Calhoun is currently my favorite Trek captain!

    Anyway, I did get the book through library loan (though sooner or later, I would like to own the book. just don’t have the money right now..) and so after I read it I wanted to read Book 5 and 6. Well, the library looked for the books and could only find Book 6!

    Is Book 5–Martyr hard to find or something?

I’m clearing out my bookshelf space, and most of my Star Trek novels (among others) are going. I’d be willing to sell those books (as well as the “Captain’s Table” and “Double Helix” chapters that featured “New Frontier”) for cheap.

  12. Glad to see this improvement! A “script error” with Internet explorer (latest version) and my Roger’s/Yahoo Hi-speed browsers prevented me from being able to use the type key service to log in and post here.

    The only web browser that would allow it to work was Netscape Navigator which of course comes bundled with all sorts of services I don’t want, so I was out of luck. It

    Nevertheless, he applies sanctions and censures the global thoughts in his Web. Something in the repressive and repressed line of the American government.

    Moral: we are all good facing the public. We are all miserable when we think that we lose our privileges. Crap.

  23. I agree that having to log in every time and the way the “Remember Me” button was about as effective as a Fisher Price control knob was extremely annoying and a bit more time-consuming, but I support making sure that trolls like Dee are fenced off from the site.

    But what’s MT Blacklist, Glenn? Is it something that manages to keep out trolls or something the same way a registration system does? How does it work?

    It works by blocking comment spams from certain IP addresses and URLS; the creator of the script maintains a periodically updated list of the latest spammers that you import into Blacklist, and then it blocks the spammers (and anyone else you care to block manually) from commenting.

  27. Doug, I suggest you look at the threads that led up to Glenn imposing TypeKey in the first place if you think Peter’s been using heavy-handed censorship (oh, ‘scuse me, “censureship”) around these parts. I suspect you’re coming in without much of a sense of history.

  30. BTW, Glenn … not to say that re-enabling all of this hasn’t been great, but if in your copious free time you could at some point think about looking at the Preview feature and why it doesn’t work, I think a lot of people would be VERY appreciative.

    It’s only a matter of time before someone trying to post finds themselves “banned” because their IP range has been blocked.

    Hardly anyone has static IP’s, and blocking them is the worst possible solution there is.

    I quoted PAD’s “beat you senseless with a dead mackerel” on the Geoff Johns board, but a flame war failed to erupt.

    I realize asking “Isn’t Doc Savage made of bronze?” isn’t as egregious a sin against all that is holy as asking “Julie Schwartz? Who’s she?” but I managed to escape a ‘warned’ label on the GJ site.

    The mods must have decided to let the mackerel threat pass, just for the halibut.

Nice to see everyone back and posting again.Welcome back to all the old gang and welcome to the new people.As much as i was opposed to the registration i did understand why it was done and hopefully wont be needed in the future.just in case im keeping the typekey codes in storage if we need them again.As bad as i thought registration would be after looking at some other
    forums “Byrneing” up the internet i realize its not the regisration its the person running the forum that results in censorship and boring discussions.

  45. Thank God! TypeKey has crashed my IE about 8 out of 10 times I used it. And natch, lost my posts so I had to go back, do it again and hope it didn’t crash me twice…
