Just when I think the world can’t get any screwier, I can’t help but notice that the markings on Mike Tyson’s face uncomfortably remind me of the tattoos on serial killer Karl Coven from “Captain Marvel.” Now I don’t know how long Tyson’s had those markings, nor do I know if Ivan was aware of them, but they sure are evocative of Coven. All he needs is a tattoo displaying his brain. Then again, maybe Tyson doesn’t want a tattoo on his buttocks.

Tyson went and got himself that tribal face tattoo a few days right before his last fight (mid/late February 2003). His reason for the last minute skin art was that he “didn’t like the way my face was looking.”
Now that’s a fight I would love to see. Tyson vs Marvel’s Lawyers! Now I’m thinking, would Shaq risk a lawsuit from his Superman tattoo, or is there a little copyright/trademark symbol also tattooed on?
“All he needs is a tattoo displaying his brain. Then again, maybe Tyson doesn’t want a tattoo on his buttocks.”
ROFLMAO!!!
Speaking of Coven, the latest “Captain Marvel” was some funny stuff. I laughed all the way through it. “J. Jonah Jameson”- heehee.
Keep up the good work!
I hope after Paul Jenkins completes his run on the new Spectacular Spider-Man title, they offer it to you. Man, your Spidey is good.
I have to agree. This was my favorite comic of the week by far. Just classic stuff.

Yeah, since a “What’ja Think?” thread hasn’t been started for Captain Marvel #10, I’ll add my voice to the chorus on this thread.
Really good issue… one of the best CM’s ever. Your Spider-Man is even better now than he was in the 80s, and the “J Jonah Jameson” gag was laugh-out-loud hilarious.
(Ivan Reis draws a great Spidey too, don’t he?)
Thanks for a great issue.
Does anyone have a link to a good picture of Tyson’s tat? I haven’t seen a clear shot of it.

Scroll down toward the bottom and a decent picture should be there, plus a not-so-decent Photoshopped picture of Tyson as a member of Kiss.

I didn’t read CM monthly before the relaunch. I’m glad I do now. I don’t ever laugh out loud while reading comics. It takes a hëll of a lot. CM #10 did it for me. While the jokes are beginning to use raunchier subject matter, they’re handled much more tastefully than anywhere else in comics. Bravo.
The type of dagger-like like lines and slashes that Tyson and Coven use for their tattoos are quite common. So there’s no reason to see any particular concidence between the two.
Btw, I had no idea Alan Davis was doing the cover. Awesome.
