Just when I thought I was out…

Ðámņ. I found a dozen more “Captain Marvel” letters, just when I thought I’d finished them all up. I’d misfiled them. Since it’s my fault, I’ll stick the extra postage on. Rats. Ah well.

People are actually receiving the previews (which means .34 cents was enough postage, thank heavens) and the response seems pretty positive. Over in the Warren Ellis Forum, a fellow named Isaac Sher got his and posted a really nice write-up about it in the Comics News Section. I’d post a direct link to the message, but I’m not clever enough to figure out how to do it. Don’t bother trying to post a follow up response, though, if you do happen to find it: Warren made a point of shutting down the topic before anyone could reply, instructing the poster to find another forum to discuss “Captain Marvel” in. Not sure why, but it’s his forum and his call, so once again…ah well.

  1. He’s got a thing about super-heroes, particularly company owned. He feels the marketplace isn’t diverse enough, and he wants more creator ownership, therefore he doesn’t want company owned superhero comics promoted on his board. In short, it’s nothing against you or CM personally.

  2. Warren was pretty surly last week and didn’t want to hear about super hero comics from the Big Two.

You know how he gets …

  3. Later that day, I saw somewhere where he squashed a discussion about Astronauts in Trouble, by Larry Young, who is his friend, his some-time publisher, and frequent WEF poster. I’d just chalk it up to general surliness on warren’s part.

  4. Warren Ellis is just a pompous ášš. There is no point rationalizing his behavior online.

You write excellent comics, Peter. Whether they are superhero books or not, they should always be considered “worthy enough” for a comic book discussion site, no matter who runs it.

And you’d think that Warren would at least acknowledge that you took the time to send your readers preview scripts of Captain Marvel.

After all, he likes nothing better than self-promotion (especially for comics that were announced a year ago), so I’m surprised he didn’t misinterpret your gesture as such and give you a nice, fat pat on the back.

Man, that guy needs an attitude adjustment.
