Well, this is one of those situations where it’s pretty dámņëd convenient having my own website. It means that I can address a rumor in one central place.
Rich Johnston reported in “All the Rage” that he’s heard there’s going to be a new “SHAZAM” series and that I’m going to be writing it. Now I’ll grant you, I’ve been out of town for a week. Perhaps there’s something in the hopper at DC and they’re planning to contact me. And there’s certainly some amusement value in the notion of writing two books simultaneously for two companies both featuring a character named “Captain Marvel.” I’m not sure if that’s ever been done before.
But as of this particular moment in time, I haven’t heard boo about it. No one’s called me about it or made any sort of offer. It’s rumor to you and Rich, and news to me. The only thing I can think of is that my continued use of Mary Marvel in SUPERGIRL through to the end of the current story arc in #74 got mushed together with a possible new SHAZAM series, and consequently my name was attached to it.
Still, they always say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. I’m not entirely sure that’s true, but in this case Rich helped keep my name out there in a manner that, for the first time in ages, has nothing to do with Marvel. Well, actually it does, but not that Marvel. The other Marvel. The Marvel that was Marvel before Marvel was Mar–

Peter — this is not a rumor… it is destiny calling to you. I can think of no one better to write DC’s the-one-the-only-the-real-deal Captain Marvel, and that’s YOU! Someone on the DC boards said that maybe Rich threw this one out for laughs. I say the gods made him do it — to get your attention! 🙂
You’re a hot-shot writer; if anyone could talk the DC dudes that this should happen, that person is you. If you’re the least bit interested, won’t you give ’em a call? Then come back here and post the news that the series is a “go”.

I think that it would be interesting to see the “Big Cheese” on the stands again. I liked the “Power of Shazam” series that eventualy died, and I would like to see the “other” CM back again. And since we know that you can write children/teens well (from YJ & Spy Boy) I think that would ensure a good handle on the Billy Batson’s personality. So out of curiousity, what direction ould you like to take the “other” CM in?
Addendum: Would Billy fit in more with YJ, being a “kid” (not that many in the main DCU are aware of his true “kid” status. Imagine Geffin’s JL if Bats had found out during that run. Or Guy. Fun, no?) Not that the “other” CM could stay with YJ, what would the odds of him popping up in YJ for a visit be?
A scene from one of the earlier issues of YJ comes to mind, when the Red Tornado suggested to the Martian Manhunter that he find another mentor for the team, ‘possibly Captain Marvel’.
Always wondered what would have come out of that… 🙂 Considering how little we’ve seen of Snapper since issue #42, it’s not a situation I’d turn my nose up at…
Well, Snapper has been in every non-alternate universe issue since he has been introduced, so I don’t think he has been MIA or anything.
But I will say after reading the first few pages of CM3 and Mary Marvel in SuperGirl (I recently caught up in reading SuperGirl),two things crossed my mind. 1) Hey Supergirl is getting good again (The Demon issues and a few others didn’t really do much for me) and 2) I think PAD should write a Marvel Family title. I think he is a natural choice.
So perhaps my non-verbalized thoughts somehow started this rumor?
