Final Reminder on “The Camelot Papers”

Aside from the limited edition uncorrected proofs, I will not have copies of “The Camelot Papers” for sale at Dragon*Con. So if you were planning to attend and wanted an autographed copy, now is the time to go online and get it. Just FYI, Barnes & Noble is apparently selling the trade paperback for $4 less than is Amazon. I don’t know how long that will last, so you may want to check it out.

  1. Speaking of uncorrected proofs, are you interested in knowing of a typos that managed to creep into the downloadable version?

I’m not asking to pick a nit. I’m just not sure, given the electronic nature of a downloaded book, if it’s a simple matter to fix a typo “on the fly” so that future downloaded copies don’t have it. (Upload an updated version to Amazon and, presto, all subsequent downloads lack the error?)

FYI, it occurs in the third paragraph of day 31. “So much venison was delivered up to the cooks for preparation that I swan the hunters must have slaughtered an entire herd of deer.”

    1. Was “swan” not meant to be “swear”. Since you don’t see anything amiss, I’ll have to take it you did mean to use swan. I’d just never seen it used in that way before.

Corey links to the dictionary which does give a “to swar or declare”, but also lists than meaning as a 1775–85 Americanism. Hardly something one’d expect Viviane to use in the 5th-6th century. (Although one probably wouldn’t encounter some one saying anything in modern English.)

      So “swan” was intended?

    2. BTW, does anyone know if it would be simple to make a small correction in a downloadable book if necessary? Or, given the one-among-millions from Amazon’s perspective, would it be a major hoop-jumping process?

    1. At this point we’re on as many platforms as we’re going to be on for a while. But between Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and easily available trade paperback, I really feel as if we’ve met readers more than halfway.

      1. I’ve got the paperback version in my Amazon cart I’ve just got to get around to placing the order.

  2. Because I had a B & N gift card, I searched that store for your new book. Being ‘print on demand’, the didn’t have it. I ordered it online and on sale. The cost ended up slightly lower than cover. It arrived about two days later. Thought you’d like to know. I wish stores would stock your stuff. I’d buy locally if I could. thanks, mark

    1. Honestly, Mark, the lack of reliability in stores carrying my books is one of the things that drove me towards Crazy 8. For instance, when the first “Hidden Earth” novel came out, I was down in Florida and I needed to pick up a copy to give to a friend. I had to call seven…seven…book stores before I found one that stocked it. Not that had it; that had ordered it at all. With that sort of inattention, I didn’t really feel I had a lot to lose. I thank you for going to such efforts to get it. I wish more fans did.
