EDITED TO CORRECT LICENSE NUMBER

UPDATED 7:38 PM–
Kath got into a fender bender and the other party was being intransigent about providing information. But it’s all been sorted out since then.

Interesting

Amazon knocked down the price on the trade paperback of “The Camelot Papers” to match the discount from Barnes & Noble.

Competition. I love it. Now if we could just get the sales rankings up to something I’d be satisfied with, like…number one.

And now, something completely different. Something completely silly. Something having zero to do with comics, but hey, sue me, it’s my column (despite the occasional letters we get taking us to task because of what this column is supposed to be, as if there was a mandate that I was blowing off.)

It’s time for:

Live Blogging the Storm

6:20 PM–Drizzle starting to fall pretty regularly. I bought a pump for the basement that I can employ if there’s flooding of more than an inch. Got the wrong sized hose and had to run back to the hardware store to get the right size, but now it’s all set to go. News is filled with various administration people saying that we should leave. Kind of late now; nowhere really to go. Next door neighbor and his wife have likewise remained to stay; they’re in their 70s. Still cleaning out office; how did I ACQUIRE this much crap? Living room looks like a bomb hit it because I’ve moved everything upstairs. Can’t remember saying, “Oh, THAT’S where that went” quite this many times. Getting terrific aerobic work out.

Final Reminder on “The Camelot Papers”

Aside from the limited edition uncorrected proofs, I will not have copies of “The Camelot Papers” for sale at Dragon*Con. So if you were planning to attend and wanted an autographed copy, now is the time to go online and get it. Just FYI, Barnes & Noble is apparently selling the trade paperback for $4 less than is Amazon. I don’t know how long that will last, so you may want to check it out.

Cry “Havok”

Well, there goes the shock ending of X-Factor #230: the reveal of the return of Havok. The cover image was shown and it’s being discussed all over the net.

Ah well. Maybe it’ll get more people ordering the book ahead of time instead of them complaining that they can’t find it in the stores. Besides which, I still have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to #230…not to mention #227, the ending of which I confidently predict will receive the WTF!? Award of 2011. What’s that? You say there isn’t a WTF!? award? Well, they’re just gonnna have to go invent one.

News Flash

Exclusive to this site, here’s a behind the scenes photo from the recording session for my second season episode of “Young Justice.” You’re looking at three generations of Flash, voiced by (l-r) George Eads as Barry Allen/Flash, Jason Spizak as Kid Flash, and the debut of Geoff Pierson as the Golden Age Flash (who looks so much like Jay Garrick that he could cosplay him at Comicon). Photo courtesy of David Wilcox of the YJ production team and used with permission.

Cowboy Pete Doesn’t Have to Torch Torchwood

So there’s been this series on Starz now for a while calling itself “Torchwood.” And to Americans who weren’t previously familiar with the series, they might well have accepted it at face value. Me, I found it interesting enough and I kept coming back. But as week after week passed, I started to become increasingly discouraged because with the sidelining of the key Torchwood operatives of Gwen and–even worse–Jack, it was Torchwood in name only.

That’s changed over the past two weeks and it couldn’t have come soon enough.

Hi. Remember me?

Been out of town for the better part of a week and been off line for a bit. I’m out on the West Coast, having attended the recording session for another episode of “Young Justice” I’ve written. Caroline’s with me, giving Kathleen the time she needs to focus on various projects for Dragon*Con.

Tomorrow Caroline and I will likely be attending the D23 Expo. So if any of you are swinging by and see me, give us a wave.

Elementary, my Dear Virginia

Well, actually Middle School, not Elementary. Apparently “A Study in Scarlet”–the introduction to Sherlock Holmes–has been removed from a reading list in the Albermarle school district in Virginia because there were objections to the way Mormons were portrayed in it (since they were essentially depicted as a murdering, blackmailing cult).

In case you’re keeping score, Virginia was also the state that fought to the bitter end for the preservation of bans on interracial marriage. It’s also the home of Congressman Virgil Goode who sent around an email insisting that immigration laws had to be tightened up in order to make sure that Muslims didn’t flood into the US and wind up getting elected to high offices.

Perhaps Albermarle may want to consider publishing their own version, and every place in the story where the word “Mormon” is used, they can substitute “Black” or perhaps “Muslim.”

You can read more about it

“Camelot Papers” at Dragon*Con

I’ve been asked if I’m going to be selling copies of the trade paperback of “The Camelot Papers” at Dragon*Con.

Yes and no.

I have a limited number of uncorrected proofs that I’m selling as collector’s items. They are significantly more than the on line price of $15.99. So if you want to obtain autographed trade paperback copies at the list price, I suggest you purchase them from either Amazon.com or createspace.com.
