Can’t Sleep…

Clowns will eat me.

Okay, not really. But it’s been a pretty lousy thirty-six hours. I picked up a stomach virus from Caroline, got up at 2:30 yesterday morning, thew up, and since then have been alternating between sleeping and lying around listlessly.

So now it’s 1 AM, and at least I’m not throwing up, but I’m also not remotely tired. In the meantime I’m worried Kath will come down with it next.

I hate being sick.

  1. Get well soon, Peter. I empathize — I live with 20 other Jesuits, and it’s like a preschool. When one gets sick, we all go down.

Nice job on the issue today. Great to see so much of Layla; and a wonderful last line.

Hope you can get some sleep. Plenty of liquids…

  2. Sorry to hear you’re sick, Peter. As a fellow habitual night owl (and by that I mean that I’m up late like you, not that I get to knock boots with Malin Åkerman in an airship above Manhattan), I sympathize.

Hope you feel better soon. In the meantime, if you really can’t sleep, then try to do something productive, like reading, or working your scripts, or plotting revenge against your enemies.

  3. Get better soon and I hope your wife does not catch it.
Why am I up so late? Don’t know, really. Something is bugging me, but I am pickled as to the reason.

Anyhoot, I hope you feel better soon.

  4. I’m up so late because I get paid to be. At least, that’s my current excuse. If not, I’d be working on one of the scripts.

If you want to floor me, give me a stomach problem or a head pain. I hope this is over quick, happy, and without infecting anybody else in your house. And clown-free.

  5. In Soviet Russia, Sick hates being You!

…Yeah, okay, but it IS O’dark-thirty in the morning. These are the jokes…

  6. I’m up so late because I get paid to be. At least, that’s my current excuse. If not, I’d probably be working on one of my scripts.

  7. Yuck. Definitely no fun. We’ve avoided the stomach bugs of late, but Katherine had a nearly 104° fever late last week.

Hope it passes quickly — and as well as the clowns, remember “don’t warn the tadpoles.”

  8. Feel better soon, Peter! Robin’s still feeling the effects of the nasty cold I got a couple weeks back. This has been a hëll of a winter for us so far.

  9. Sorry to hear that. Just got over the flu myself and between that, this stomach bug and an epidemic of strep throat, there are a lot of kids here in NC that need to be staying the heck home and not coming to school and breathing at me.
    .
The good news is that of the 3 the stomach bug seems to be the one that goes away the fastest, with few lingering symptoms, other than the fond memories.

Mini ice age, pestilence…this has been a truly apocalyptic winter. Toss in some zombies or fleshy headed mutants and let’s call it a day.

  10. You know what a good Jewish mother would say… “Did you try chicken soup yet?!?!?” (Be grateful. In an earlier era, the remedy might have included an enema.)
    .
Get well soon. I’m under the weather with a cold/flu/fever meself… and I am going to try the wife’s chicken soup. (And that’s ALL I’m trying!!!)

    The Bad Clown…

  11. I was an only child and rather reclusive so never got anything more severe than a head cold. I was 21 when I got chicken pox (the Batman Contagion storyline was out then which I appreciated).

My wife and I plan to have kids soon but from what I hear, I should anticipate never sleeping or being well again. Maybe I can convince her to adopt Brittany from Glee instead.

  12. Sorry to hear about yer illness. My recommendation: Drink lots and lots of water, to flood it out of your system.

Or, when your stomach’s a bit stronger, try the combo an ex-girlfriend of mine used to take when she got sick: Nutter Butters and Sprite.

  13. For what it’s worth, I’m going back to work on Tuesday, six weeks to the day after my second surgery in as many days. Recovery has been smooth, with six small holes in my belly from the gall bladder removal, and nothing from the gallstones removed the next day. It may break my cats’ hearts because they’ve liked the extra time I’ve been home. And I cleaned out what was on my DVR, though some new things are on. About to watch “Breaking Bad” and “The Tudors” from this morning.

  14. That sucks, Pete. If you want a pick-me-up, though, you might check out this week’s “The Line, It Is Drawn” at Comics Should Be Good. One of the entries is both X-Factor related and hilarious.
    .
And I’m not just posting this because I’m friends with the blogmaster. Nope, nuh-uh.

    1. I’ll second Michael’s recommendation, and I’m NOT friends with the blogmaster. (He seems a good guy, but I’ve never met him or corresponded with him.) “The Line It Is Drawn” has been a fun feature over there for a while, but this one was marvelous.

  15. I hope you feel better soon.
I just now got over a bad cold, but what you have sounds much worse.

  16. Peter, Clara and I went through the same thing, and if there’s a single good outcome, it’s that we quit smoking. The smell and taste of cigarettes after two weeks of flu is just unbearable. The downer for me is that I’ve got two pounds of good pipe tobacco I’m gonna wind up tossing. And cigars are right out, too.
    .
For Kath’s sake, I suggest you sleep in seperate rooms for a bit. Y’all are gonna be miserable, but with luck you won’t be passing it back and forth.

  17. This goes without saying but drink pleanty of fluids! My brother was in the hospital for 3 days due to food poisoning and because he threw up so much, he lost a lot of fluid.

Interestingly, my wife who had a history of winter colds has had none since we have been married. I buy her a lot of fruit cups to keep her vitamin C up…and by a lot, I mean she cleans out like 32 cups in less than a week.

I hope you feel better soon!
