A Cowboy Pete Tip of the Stetson to Some Inspired Programming

The geniuses who program Encore are running Groundhog Day, the Bill Murray comedy in which a guy finds himself endlessly repeating the titular day until he learns to be a better person.

And they’re running it the whole day. Up until midnight. Apparently it’s an annual event.

And what’s the first film after that? Strange Days. The title alone makes it a brilliant fit.

Me, I think if the little vermin predicts six more weeks of this crap, we should beat him to death.

  1. I hear Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning, so I guess we’re done for the year? I’m going to ignore the sideways snow outside my window…

No word yet on Buckeye Chuck.

  2. He didn’t see his shadow, so supposedly that means Spring is just around the corner.

Personally, I think it was either say “no shadow” or go into the witness protection program for him.

  3. You haven’t seen Strange Days? Make sure to watch it tonight. It’s not a perfect film, but it’s amazing.

  4. That movie alone made a whole generation of spaniards learn what is the Groundhog Day, how the the Pennsylvania Polka sounds like and, with the advent of social networks, “celebrate” the day every year by making witty references to the movie. Today I lost count of how many “ok Campers, rise and shine!” I received via facebook and twitter.

    That movie is solid gold.

  5. Yup, if the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow, we have six more weeks of winter – if he sees it, we have a month-and-a-half.
