Eight Years Ago, On This Very Day

During an absolutely horrific snow storm, Caroline was born.

It seems like yesterday she was a tiny thing the size of my forearm, sleeping on my chest.

Now she’s a young lady.

It might be noted that two days earlier, Jennifer Grey had a daughter. Last Tuesday the two of them were playing together at the Disney store. And today is Walt Disney’s birthday. There’s something significant there, but I’m not sure what it is.

In any event, happy birthday to my littlest girl (who, in a few months, will probably be taller than me.)

    I never expected to have granddaughters – with luck i’ll live to see them grow up – most of the way, anyway.

  6. My own daughter turned 8 two weeks ago; she’s already burned through Disney princesses, Star Wars, and is now knee-deep in Harry Potter. At this rate she’ll be into the Twilightverse by the time she’s 10. I need to stop this trend an try re-introducing Barney or Elmo or something…

  7. It’s amazing how fast they grow. I was watching my two nephews yesterday for my sister and brother-in-law while they were out shopping, and the younger of the two, Matthew, is still at that stage where he runs around, doesn’t listen to anyone, puts his hands all over everything, and has to be told to do something five or six times before doing it (assuming he does). He’s the most adorable and loving little thing, though I’m grateful that his older brother, Sal, is now eight himself, and that it’s easier to talk and communicate with him, when it just seemed like yesterday that he was in that little mischievous phase himself.

    And I’m glad that I’m not the only dad looking at his daughter (6 years old in my case) and saying, “geez, she’ll be taller than me soon.” Katey’s definitely been eating Miracle-Gro on the side…

  16. By a happy coincidence, my brother’s wife gave birth to their first child yesterday morning (Dec 5th) at 1:40 a.m. I am now officially Aunt Rebecca.
