The Gift of Me Update–Spider-Man Vault

You’re gonna love this

It turns out, for reasons that I can only guess at, that Running Press–the publisher of the Spider-Man Vault–has released it exclusively to…get this…Costco stores (so yes, Tom Galloway was right). Not that it’s on their website, because that would be too easy.

My guess is that they’re holding national bookstore distribution until there’s a movie to tie into (since I suspect that this was originally supposed to time out with the fourth Spider-Man film which, as we all know, got pushed back.) But they’re putting out some now on a limited basis, through Costco, presumably to tap into the Christmas season.

Isn’t publishing great?

I should put some of my author copies up on eBay. I could probably make a fortune.

  1. Especially if you signed ’em!

“This book isn’t even out yet, but I got a personalized copy from Peter David for you…”

  2. I bought the DC and Marvel vault books at Costco, but were they only distributed through there? Fact is, Costco moves LOTS of product, maybe it’s not a bad thing. I was browsing that new DC year-by-year book there last week, where it was cheaper than Amazon by a few bucks.

      1. Uh…no. It wasn’t bratty at all. You’re ascribing a tone to it that I sure didn’t perceive. You stated a few facts and asked a question (the answer to which is, no, the DC and Marvel vault books were distributed through all normal channels. Apparently only Spider-Man rates the Costco-only strategy.)

  3. “(so yes, Tom Galloway was right)”. You write this like it was a surprise? : -) Seriously, physical item I can see across the room, right next to some other stuff I picked up at Costco made it a no brainer to recall, and I’d no reason to make it up. Didn’t realize until the previous item that it was unusual or I’d’ve dropped you a line about it.

  4. …Wow.

And I always thought that CostCo was a generic name used for businesses in the fiction world.

  5. Went to Costco yesterday, but no Spidey Vault book. 🙁

I was able to pick up the new Wheel of Time book, though – for a really good price.

      1. I just got back from the Costco near me and they had a nice sized pile of them for 29.99. Got one for me and a friend.

  6. Man! I have been pimping this book around Twitter and Facebook for a while now, since I was pumped that my art had been included. Disappointing news, but I’m glad it’s out SOMEWHERE.

  7. I sent an e-mail to the publisher, and they were kind enough to reply. They’ve confirmed it as a “big store” exclusive. You can get it at Costco and at Sam’s Club. So, if you’ve got either, they may have it in stock this holiday season.

I say “may” because in the LA area, no one seems to carry it. If you’re going there just for the book, call ahead. You may save yourself a trip.
