Two Projects of Mine I can Mention Now

Coming out in October: “The Balverine Order,” an original novel that ties into the “Fable” video game. It’s set between the events in Fable II and the forthcoming Fable III. Quoting from the Amazon description: The days of magic and adventure are fading away, giving way to the age of industry and science. As the aged last Hero sits upon the throne of Albion, two friends-the privileged Thomas and his loyal servant, James- set out for the East in search of a legendary beast: the vicious, rarely-seen balverine. But their desire for adventure may be their ultimate undoing-because their quarry has just found them…

I also wrote a 64-page adaptation of the original “Tron” film for Marvel which will be coming out in November.

  1. Good thing you couldn’t mention them. Would have killed any interest in the “upcoming projects” file immediately.

Something about Fable, which I’m only vaguely aware of, and something about Tron. I shaved my legs for this?

  2. I preordered your Fable III book a few days ago. I look forward to it!

Is it rude for me to ask, PAD, if there are any intentions to finishing the Hidden Earth Chronicles?

    1. Good question. I can’t start on the third novel until I have editorial comments back on the second novel. I turned in the second novel in July…

      …of 2009.
      .
And the editor has yet to get back to me.
      .
So all I can say is, the book is insanely late, but it sure ain’t my fault.

July of ’09? Are you sure that the book is the only thing that’s late? I mean, are you sure you didn’t miss an obit listing or something?

      2. No, no, the editor’s alive and kicking. In fact, a writer friend of mine told me he had just turned in a manuscript to Tor and was looking forward to getting the editor’s comments. I asked him who it was. Same editor. I just laughed and said, Well, good luck with that.

      3. Is there a protocol for reminding him? Letter writing campaign style of thing?

Would not want to get anyone in trouble of course.

  3. “What’s a balverine?”
“No one alive has seen one, but what IS known is that it is the best there is at what it does. And what it does is not…pretty.”

    1. Oh, PAD, please, PLEASE tell me there’s an exchange like this somewhere in your novel!!

      1. Nah. It occurred to me, but I figured it would never get past. And even if it did, it would kick the reader right out of the novel.

  4. Having just finished recommending you to someone who was looking for good King Arthur novels, I find myself wondering whether you’ve got anything percolating in the background beyond the three you’ve already got published? It’s understood you can’t talk about some projects until the publishers clear it, but may we at least know if you’ve come up with ideas for possible future stories in that series?

  5. Awesome! Can’t wait to read ’em! Peter, who’s illustrating the Tron book?
    .
Btw, Peter, I hope it’s not inappropriate to ask, since I understand that your back troubles were responsible for this, but I’m merely curious: Are you going to complete the June 22 What’cha Wanna Know? thread? (I understand if you consider it a sailed ship, and that we’ll have to just wait until some time in your schedule opens up for the next one.)
    .
In any event, hope your recovery is continuing apace! 🙂

  6. Hi Mr. David,

Just discovered your site this week, and have been thorougly enjoying the archives. You might remember me from about a decade and a half back, when you had called me to discuss some ideas i had sent you concerning bringing Jim Wilson back into the Hulk Universe. We’re both local long islanders, and i was thrilled to speak with you.

I’m not into comics as much as i was, but im still buying 6-8 books a month. And of course, im still buying the Hulk. Ive been buying it monthly since 1974, i cant stop now can i? Although with the way it is currently being written, sometimes i’d like to. Any chance of you ever returning to the title?

    Your (longtime) fan,
    Andrew

  7. Not being a fan of Fable, the first bit means little to me. On the other hand, being a RABID fan of TRON, I am absolutely DELIGHTED to hear about this! Also desperately looking forward to the new “New Frontier.” Still due out in January?

  8. Back when I was younger and VHS movies cost an arm and a leg, comic adaptations were a great way to relive my favorite movies. In the age of cheap DVDs, however, I typically don’t bother with comic adaptations any more. TRON, however, will probably be an exception.

  9. Just pre-ordered the Balverine Order on Amazon. Don’t want my Peter David collection to be less than complete and don’t want to miss out on more interesting, entertaining, and amusing reading.
