We were having some networking problems last night. Anyway, here it is.

  1. Though a bit late, I finally got around to reading Treason. As always burn through New Frontier books faster than most books, and consequently feels too short, especially after waiting over 3 years since the last one (The Comic and Mirror Universe books were appreciated hold overs, but not the same thing).
I liked that the humor didn’t feel forced in this book, it took more of a serious tone, without it becoming too serious.
Plus all the hints at what’s to come for the future books were really nice (Though my New Frontiers shelf is getting pretty full. It looks like I’m gonna need to start a second shelf).

I know you probably haven’t even started the next book, and near as I can tell nothing has been planned, but you’ve been doing this for a while now, and you’d know better than anyone. Would you be willing to hazard a guess when you realistically expect the next book to come out?

  2. No new comics yet but I can talk about some stuff I’ve read since last week:
    .
Mr Stuffins #1 was great fun! Just the right blend of childhood innocence and angst, combined with hilariously over-the-top Punisher-type mentality.
    .
    There’s over-the-top Punisher-type mentality, and then there’s Kick Úš.
    .
The Man With No Name #9 was a bit of a disappointment. Unlike the first arc, this storyline has a cast of hundreds – many of whom are pretnding to be something they’re not. And besides a couple of leads, just about everybody is indiscernible from each other thanks to the generic artwork. It’s almost impossible to tell what’s going on and who’s who.
    .
Astonishing X-Men is moving somewhere. It’s just interesting enough to keep me buying the next issue.
    .
Nova was its usual excellent self. Worlds are crumbling – both figuratively and literally.
    .
Dark Reign The Cabal wasn’t essential, and I doubt anything will prove vital for future stories, but it was enormously well done. A very enjoyable one-shot.

  3. I picked up the second issue of the return of Barry Allen as the Flash. Frankly, it is disappointing me. While the writer is one I usually enjoy, I just can’t get into the characters.

I am old enough to have been around during the years when Barry Allen was the sole Flash of Earth 1. But I do not feel any warm feelings about his return so far.

  4. Treason was an amazing NF book. I couldn’t put it down, read it in one afternoon and re-read it the next day to make sure I missed nothing. My only problem was the last sentence, I don’t know if I personally like where that could lead I have always liked Necheyev and don’t want to think of where it could go. However, I know you can spin a story like no one’s business so I have faith!! Two questions if I may, when does this take place, is it before or after the recent books where the Borg decimated the Federation and her Allies? Secondly I have read all the Books, none of the comics or graphic novels as those aren’t my thing, but is there anything that happened between the last book and this one that I should have read?

  5. Two comics, both disappointing.

Buffy continues to spin its wheels, focusing on Dawn but not really doing much with her. Doug Petrie does write a good Xander, though.

Flash: Rebirth 2 is half flashbacks, and all of them are retcons. I can’t say that this is what I wanted from a Barry Allen revival. He’s humorless and cold, and Geoff Johns is working overtime to make sure that Barry was driven and humorless in the past, too. A Flash comic should be fun, and this isn’t fun at all. I’m still hoping that when it’s done, it will be, but I have no reason to think that is the case so far.

  6. Had jury duty this week, and read New Frontier 5 – 9. Haven’t read a Trek novel in something like 15 years, but I’m enjoying NF a lot … And it certainly passes the time well in the jury waiting rooms.

  7. I only got one comic this week: Atomic Robo and the Shadow from Beyond Time #1.

It was really good! I like the Atomic Robo mini-series’ a lot. Its such a FUN comic. (still have to get the first trade one of these days)

I hope I’ll get the chance to check out We Kill Monsters from Red 5 this summer too. That looks really good too.

  8. I’m about halfway through the newest League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
    .
I’ve read 4 or 5 other comics this week, and can’t remember which ones they were. Is that a sign? A sign of disinterest?
Or a sign of tired brain?
    .
I think stash day might be getting lost this week amongst all the new “Moon” projects.
