RIP ANDY HALLETT

I only knew Andy Hallett, the wonderfully talented actor who brought the green skinned “Lorne” (“Lorne Green? Get it?”) to life on “Angel,” from casual encounters at Dragon*Con. But he was wonderfully sweet, charming, and fun to be with. If you never had the opportunity to meet him, then tragically you never will, since heart disease took him from us at the insanely young age of 33. He will be missed.

At some point today, stop and sing a chorus of “Lady Marmalade” in his memory.

  1. Wow, I was shocked to hear this. It was love at first sight when he showed up on Angel. He will be missed by the fans.

  2. Terribly sad. I’d always held out hope that there could be an Angel reunion episode or something but it would not be the same without him. An excellent actor and, form all reports, a great guy as well. Condolences to his loved ones.

I’ve read somewhere that the heart problems started with an infected tooth. I’m familiar with this happening in pets but didn’t know it was a risk for us as well.

  3. Apparently since the heart is the Grand Central Station of the circulatory system, crud from just about any other infected area can end up there and cause/contribute to a lot of what we classify as heart disease…

I saw Andy at a convention once, seemed like a hellofa nice guy, and 33 is indeed an insanely young age at which to be taken.

    Sigh. 2009, the suckage continues.

    Cheers.

  4. Ahhh… sad news indeed. I saw him on stage, keeping the hordes of Spike fans happy… brilliantly warm, funny and talented guy. His work as ‘Lorne’ was always note-perfect.
    RIP, Andy.

  5. Not much I can really add other than that he was a strong part of a strong cast and that it sucks he was taken from the world so young.

  6. I met him once at a Megacon here in Florida a few years back(2001,2002) and I was quite impressed with how he handled himself with the fans.

My friend and I got there early on Friday and there weren’t too many people there yet and was able to talk to him for a good half an hour.

I never watched the show before (My friend was the fan), but I was quite pleasantly surprised at how appreciative he was about the fans liking his character. He seemed honestly touched and humbled by it. It’s a shame to see people like that go so young.

  7. Man,that’s horrible to go that young.Too bad he never put out a CD. Dude was a good singer too as well as Lorne.

    1. Nathan, there is an Angel CD with two songs by him on it, “Lady Marmalade” (natch) and his cover of the Kermit classic “It’s Not Easy Being Green”

  8. Thirty-frickin’-three. I still can’t get over that.

My sympathies go out to his loved ones.

  9. i never met the guy but i loved his work and was blisting to the angel soundtaack will make me sad now hopefly lorne at least will live for a long time to carry on andhys memory

  10. 33? That is the kind of thing that makes you think, “No way can this be true! It’s just insane!”
I have been aware for some time now of the link between poor dental care and heart disease. But I still have not been as dilligent as I could be. If nothing else, maybe this will wake up some people on how important dental hygiene is, that it can lead to a lot worse problems than cavities in your mouth.
And as some have said, at least Mr. Hallett will live on forever in the minds and hearts of “Angel” fans old, new and yet to come from watching reruns.

  11. I saw him several times earlier this decade when he appeared at Mid-Ohio-Con, when, on Saturday night, he would host (what else?) a karaoke contest. I never had the never to inflict my vocal chords on the audience. But it was fun to watch.

I think there are several worlds a little sadder with his passing.

  12. This tragedy strikes deep for both Deena and I, as we had the wonderful opportunity to meet Andy twice at Mid-Ohio Con, and we either made a great impression on him or we were so lousy to be unforgettable, because he remembered us from the first time we met. We gave him a copy of our self-made comic “The Actual Semi-True Adventures of Mark and Dee”, and he in turn gave us a lovely autographed picture of him as Lorne, which hangs proudly over my desk here in my office. Indeed, Andy was amazingly talented young man who loved and was loved by his many, many fans. In a world that is already on the fast track to being a very sad place to live in, we need all the Andy Halletts we can get.

  13. Goodbye, Andy. Very much appreciated how you shared your talents through your work. Rest in peace.

  14. Sigh. His appearances on ANGEL were one of the highlights of the show. He died way too young. I never realized that he was so young. His character on ANGEL seemed to be much older.
