Best line to come out of the Israeli attack on Hamas

Reacting to the incursion, chief negotiator for the Palestinian Authority Saeb Erakat said: “What this will do is undermine the peace process.” The Palestinian Authority is the government of President Mahmoud Abbas.

Is that what they have over there? A peace process? Processed peace, which is just as much real peace as processed meat is real meat.

Or perhaps it’s a spelling error and he said “piece process” which consists of Hamas raining down missiles from Gaza and trying to blow Israel to pieces.

Idiots. The second the cease fire was over they started firing lobbing artillery at Israel. What did they THINK was going to happen?

  1. Luigi, you need to check your facts; we’ve been told many times that the missiles Hamas has are ineffectual homemade jokes, hardly capable of harming anyone. I’m sure this is all some misunderstanding.

  2. This is almost certainly an unfeasible idea, but what if Israel put some effort into rebuilding Gaza?

This conflict has done massive damage to hospitals, the electrical grid, and other vital necessities in Gaza. What if Israel actually did some things to help, would that actually have a chance of helping relations? Would the people of Gaza tear down a hospital that had received repairs or funding from Israelis?

  3. I wonder what criticism, if any, will be leveled at Hamas

Well, they’re terrorists. I think it would be pretty obvious what kind of criticism they receive?

    But, if it’ll appease you:

Yeah, Hamas needs to be taken out.

But this probably won’t appease you:

The way Israel is going about it doing far more harm than good.

  4. Luigi Novi is distressed that Hamas seriously wounded an Israeli child. I’m not particularly keen on it myself, but Israeli military activity demonstrates that sort of thing doesn’t bother them at all if the child – or several hundred of the children – happen to be Palestinian, rather than Israeli. Just how and when did maimed children come to be of interest, and can we take that as a promise to stop doing it several hundred-fold times over?

  5. Bill, I stated what the source for the information I mentioned was. If the info was wrong, then blame that source, not me. It’s not like I relied on a source with a reputation for lack of reliability.

Just out of curiosity, can you point me to a source that says that the report was wrong?

Also, is there an email address at which I can reach you? There’s an unrelated matter I wanted to ask you about. Thanks.

  6. No, no – it’s all Bill’s fault – he forgot to include the ISO-standard sarcasm-indicator glyph.

  7. In fairness to Luigi, my sarcasm was not particularly stupider than a lot of what gets said about this conflict in all seriousness.

The actual deadly potential of the rockets was well established last year or so when a bunch of them detonated while Palestinians were displaying them during a parade. The resulting dead and injured were recently shown on french TV as victims of Israeli bombings. And so it goes.

  8. Actually, you know what’s funny? I actually thought, from the content of what he said, that he was being ironic, given what I know of Bill’s demeanor and temperament when posting, but it was indeed somewhat subtle (and without a smiley), that I then thought I was imagining things. So I sorta detected it, but not enough to conclude that my first instinct was correct. Mea culpa. 🙂

  9. Hmm. Apparently this morning, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has pledged $1 billion to help rebuild Gaza.

It will be interesting to see if he actually goes through with it. Or if Hamas refuses the money.

Or, should Hamas accept it, who’s responsible for spending the money, and how they do so.

  10. Well, I’ve always been a huge PAD fan – I’d read comics before the David/Keown run, but those comics were really the ones that hooked me, and made me love the medium the way I do.

So all I can say is that reading PAD’s feelings on the Israeli/Palestinian situation here has been… well, let’s just say it’s one of those nasty reality checks you always hope you’re never gonna get. But then I guess any hero is just a normal guy in waiting.
