Senator Ted Stevens

The embattled senator has been depicted wearing a Hulk necktie based on the cover of Hulk #401, written by yours truly. Apparently it’s his favorite tie when he’s in trouble. I’m starting to get an inkling of how Rowena felt upon learning that her art was a favorite of Saddam Hussein. In the words of Groucho, it’s a club that you really would rather not be a part of since it would have you as a member.

  1. I wonder if he disclosed the tie as a gift…or if it was given to him to push some New Frontier agenda!

  2. He likes the theme because he’s often quoted saying, “Don’t make me Ted Stevens. You wouldn’t like me when I’m Ted Stevens.”

  3. So is Senator Stevens implying that he’s a super-powerful victim of MPD? Because if so, I’m not so sure we want to proceed with the indictment…

  4. So what is it about that cover that makes a tie based on it his favorite for when he’s in trouble? Is it the fact that that cover speaks of a leader being mourned? Or the fact it speaks of another leader quitting?

  5. On the one hand, if I were you I wouldn’t be happy a guy like this were wearing the tie either.
On the other hand, if Stevens actually read the book (instead of just thinking “I feel like wearing a tie with THE HULK on it! That tie looks good! I’ll buy it, and then I’ll wear it!”) then I guess it could be taken as further proof that your work’s good enough to appeal to a wide range of people regardless of political views. As is the work of Charlton Heston and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as you pointed out in this post four years ago. So that’s not entirely bad.
Of course, if he just bought the tie (or received it as a gift or whatever) because he recognized the character and isn’t familiar with your work, then you have nothing to worry about. 😉 Even the artist may not have anything to worry about. Stevens may just like the picture without knowing who drew it.

  6. I have been calling him “That Whørë Ted Stevens” for years. It about time others recognized that he was clearly for sale to any bidder.

  7. I have been calling him “Whørë Ted Stevens” for years. Its nice to see public proof of what many already knew to be true – that the man is for sale to any bidder.

  11. I would have been ashamed to be in that club when he started talking about the series of tubes. Hopefully they’ll get someone that knows what the internet is to take over that job.
