As has been reported in “The Hollywood Reporter” and elsewhere (and mentioned on the thread below) Richard Dreyfuss is likely cast as Ðìçk Cheney in “W.”
Funny story:
Two weeks ago, before posting on my board, I called a friend of mine in Hollywood (who shall go nameless) and is a a longtime friend of Dreyfuss. I said, “Hey, I read about Oliver Stone having trouble casting Ðìçk Cheney in ‘W.’ You should call Dreyfuss and have his people get in touch because he’d be perfect.”
Lo and behold.
Coincidence? Entirely possible.
But hey–I called it.
PAD

So was the Peguin unavailable?
Funny part is, I got this in an e-mail and said to myself, “Well, PAD called it.”
The movie could have post-grad-recap montages of the entire administration, like in American Graffiti. “During Vietnam, Ðìçk had other priorities.”
Oddly enough, I can think of two prospects for the nameless friend, both of whom have the same first initial and who I also know.
But yeah, could be coincidence. Early in the first season of Heroes, I suggested on the CBR weekly interview with a couple of its staff writers that Stan Lee should do a cameo/guest appearance, since it was established that Hiro was a Marvel fan.
Few months later, up pops Stan, not playing himself but sharing a scene with Hiro. I asked if I’d been the inspiration, and it turned out that it came from having met Stan at an event he’d done at UCLA, and they’d at least consciously forgotten my suggestion at the time.
At any rate, good idea and never a bad thing to have Dreyfuss working.
Great minds think alike.
And I can’t wait to see the scene where Ðìçk Cheney asks for an update on the search for WMD’s in Iraq, and is told that they’ve been found in an immense mountain butte.
Boy, I could go for some mashed potatoes….
How about Patrick Stewart or Jim Belushi? Two different actors with two different interpretations.
Jim Belushi is an actor? I thought he aleays acted as himself!
(Just kidding, as a matter of fact “The principal” is one of my favourite films)
Well, it could indeed be a coincidence but it’s much more fun thinking otherwise.
i think they should make the whole movie as a comedy like ÐÍÇK. you get will ferrel to play bush, molly shannon as laura, tracy morgan as colin powell, robert klein as rumsfeld, rob schneider as osama bin laden. it writes itself.
actually since real people have died in this war and the administration is a travesty, that might not be such a good idea.
i still stand by my idea i had years ago that someone should write george w bush’s biography as a pop-up book. pull the level, he snorts some coke.

Luigi Novi,
If great minds think alike, how come I was thinking Nathan Lane?
>>Lo and behold.

But hey–I called it.< whoopee...now let's talk about the Mets
Personally, the first guy I thought of was Stephen Root only because he disappears into roles. Not that Dreyfus isn’t good, just having him play a current historical figure it’s going to be hard to do the disconnect between the actor and the role.
James Ford: …tracy morgan as colin powell…
Luigi Novi: Oh, God. If I were Powell, I’d be insulted by that suggestion. I’d at least try to get someone who can speak coherent, articulate English, and who doesn’t sound like he’s drunk every time he tries to do so, especially since Powell’s probably the smartest and most principled person that was ever in that entire administration. I’d also try getting someone with talent.
Alan Coil: Luigi, If great minds think alike, how come I was thinking Nathan Lane?
Luigi Novi: Um……………….no comment……
If only more of your ideas could make it to the screen.

So how about Will Smith or Chris Rock? Wait no– Chi McBride.
Also, this little comedy should have cameos by Rowan Atkinson as Tony Blaire.

Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals (he was also on Highlander and the film Scandal) bears an uncanny resemblance. His accent and voice may be problematic, though.
There’s almost no resemblance, but after the recent “Andromeda Strain” film, I think Andre Braugher could do a decent job.
