I absolutely loved this story. The ending was amazing and the only problem is waitng for the next issue to see the outcome. “Failsafe plan” wow.
Loved the idea that even people who do or support the most evil things may not be totally, 100 percent evil. That’s the problem with hating isn’t it? Hatred is so black and white and life just isn’t. Love though, that covers everything. Maybe I’m getting a little off track, but that’s what your story made me think of, so, kinda your fault PAD…
Peter, your cliffhanger ending is killing me. Good thing I have things like work to distract me until next month.
Yargh.
I enjoy Arcade’s comment to Taylor about how he got *himself* kicked out of the Purifiers.
A lot of people are asking the question, which I think is a valid point: how can Taylor afford to hire Arcade? Are the Purifiers really *that* well-paid?
Might this be more about the validity of Taylor’s argument as to the dangers of Mutant Town than about the money?
I’m working based on previews and spoilers right now. I’ll have more to say once I get my copy in the post.
My attitude is that Arcade primarily likes to keep his mind occupied. And with the various mutant teams scattered, when a guy comes to him with a grudge about X-Factor, he’s inclined to make excuses to get involved.
PAD
The writing is great as always, but I’ve never really cared for a story when Arcade is involved.
Dropped the title during the big cross-over event. Too bad. It had been good.

Well then, pick it back up again! If you liked it before, then you’re only hurting yourself.
This was a bit of an average issue. I don’t really care about the bad guy or his reasons. Never liked Arcade as villain, too goofy for my tastes. Not a lot of character development in this issue. I gave it a 3 out of 5 overall.
I – have – to – wait – a – month??? You’re killing me!
As I read it, I felt like this issue was like your first run on X-Factor. It is probably just my idealized memory of what it used to be like, but the non-stop action with humor was a great ride. I like the current run (most of the time), but this issue was great.
I have not picked up She-Hulk, but the crossover may get me to try it at least for those issues. We’ll see.
Iowa Jim
I like Arcade, he’s really written as kind of a punk and less of a pun, which I dug. And he had Space Invaders socks, which was a cool. Absolutely fantastic ending, but if they blow mutant town to hëll, I guess that offically puts a capper on the NYX/Agency X era of mutant-dom. And I loved how M got all frazled after getting electrocuted. Jamie has been exceptionally mopey these past few issues (even pre-Messiah Complex), wouldn’t mind seeing him crack a few more jokes at some point. Maybe the Secret Invasion crossover will be let a bit of the air out of the balloon. Skrulls and smashing, should work out well.
Okay, now I got my copy! (That was quick.)
It can’t possibly be good for Jamie to have that many dupes killed…even in a *year* much less a day, can it? That’s bound to muck with his head a bit.
I noticed how Siryn was uniquely receptive to what was Monet was doing, and kept backing her up even when she was acting loopy. I really appreciate the friendship you’re writing between them, because–and another reader could probably have a lot else to say just for M’s side of this–because this is the first time to my knowledge that Terry’s becoming good friends with another girl. She’s had other, very close and valuable friendships with guys, particularly guys involved in romantic storylines with her–not that there’s anything wrong with that–but she’s never really had a girl-friend. So I’m intrigued to see how close they’re getting.
So, next issue are we going to see M kick Arcade’s ášš underground while Mutant Town is burning?
Anyway, if Arcade is happy to make excuses to put mutants on the griddle, then was it deliberately ironic of him to express the argument that “the mutant gene is alive and well and capable of manifesting” while he’s got a mutant man and woman getting away from him who’ve already gone and made that happen?
Yes, I *will* be inordinately focused on Terry’s pregnancy for…as long as the Sproglet Cassidy-Madrox is a factor in the story, really. That’s what happens when you go and say stuff like how it’ll “light up the Internet like a Christmas tree.”
Dropped the title during the big cross-over event. Too bad. It had been good.
If that’s all you have to say, then why are you commenting at all? Really, what’s the point?
I have said it before at CBR, but I love having Guido “back”. Once again he is the team clown- and with all of the action happening, it feels like we’re back in the 90’s!!
Nows all we need is that Stroman guy…
I’ve been out of work lately but just got my tax return and picked up the last 3 months of comics that have been building up for me at my local shop, it was awesome to be able to sit down and catch up a bit yesterday… and then put them down and start biding my time until I can next by some comics.
Good work, as always. I missed it.
Awesome! I love over the top villains like Arcade.
I enjoyed it, particularly how Monet looked and acted post-electrocution (because, as I’ve said before, I sorta despise her for how she’s treated Jamie) and the whole scene with Guido and the boulder. Nice Madrox internal monologue as always, including when he asked whether events really mirrored what he was thinking that closely. 🙂 And the multiple dupes answering multiple questions from the crowd in multiple different ways was pretty amusing. Finally, I too appreciate Space Invaders socks.
Now, the review I read at ComiXfan raised what I believe is a good question, and I’ll copy it in here:
I admit that I haven’t read every single appearance of the character but from what I have read Arcade never came across to me as the type to care one way or the other regarding the mutant issue. The idea of touching on his politics is an interesting angle to explore. If nothing else it’s different which in my book is good. Of course I could be reading a little too much into things and it may just turn out that the only motivation driving him as always is the thrill of the game.
Have mutants really given Arcade so much trouble that he’d want them to stay endangered? I haven’t read every Arcade story either, but I’ve read a number of them and I can’t think of any instance where Arcade was really defeated; usually he puts the heroes in danger, the heroes fight their way out of it, and Arcade is long gone by the time they get to his control room. Or, in one case where Colossus and Kitty were coerced into protecting him, they weren’t able to do anything to stop him afterwards because A) they were fugitives at the time and B) they didn’t actually have any evidence that he was a killer to turn over to the authorities.
Loved the homage to 80’s video games on his socks. One thing tho- Arcade is still doing the old Batman-tv show style traps. How about updating him to the more massively multiplayer-style game space?
The only thing missing, IMO, was Shatterstar rushing in, swords glinting, and hacking Arcade to pieces then whisking Ric away. No, I’m not a fangirl, really. (Liar! Even I don’t believe myself.)
