“The Scream,” a four issue limited series, has been in the hopper for three years now (and thus was one of the series that Marvel allowed me to grandfather into my exclusive deal; I just didn’t announce that at the time because Dark Horse wanted to wait to announce it.)
Apparently issue #1 has deftly slid in under the radar, judging by the number of people going, “What’s ‘The Scream’?” I’ve no idea if anybody bought it, but if you did, whad’ja think?

I did read it and it really a good book. I really don’t like Bart Sears new art style but that is ok. It is a cool concept that the main caracter keeps dreaming that different are happening. When he was day dreaming this very pretty woman going into wear he works, everyone starts to make out with each other. Normal Peter David since of humor. But it kinda reminds me that this is a hulk wanna be.
Yeah, definately snuck out under my radar. I first heard about it from a column mentioning it on Monday. I was fortunate enough to find a copy in Graham Cracker Comics in Chicago while there visiting relatives this weekend.
I’m glad I picked it up. It was a good time, and I look forward to seeing more. A main character who isn’t really able to trust or control himself, or even really trust his senses with all the dream bits, is an intriguing one, so I’ll be down for the next three issues.
Hmmm. I enjoyed the first issue. I saw it solicited in Previews and turned in an order for it at my local comic shop. Not much hoopla for this title from Dark Horse, so I am glad that I did notice it. The premise was nicely set up and now we just have to see if the rest of the story delivers.
I wouldn’t have even heard of the title if my comic book store didn’t keep a copy for me when I picked up my weekly stash! Be thankful of Joel Pollack of Big Planet Comics! He noticed I buy all of your titles.
Well, Dark Horse certainly did a good job of keeping it a secret. I would have preordered it, but I guess now I’ll wait for the trade.
I picked it up through Westfield because I can’t remember when you and Bart Sears were together.
Glad to see Bart is back his last project was DCs warlord which didn’t go over well.

I was surprised when I came upon this on the racks last week. Saw the name ‘David’ on the cover, checked to see if it was yours, bought it. And I’m glad I did. Dug the double wake up, and there were a couple of other interesting little twists, going in different directions than I expected. Plus, I always approve of names with repetitive initials. Danny Duncan, Celeste Crane, etc. I’m down for the next ish.
Weird feeling reading this post. I read a story yesterday named “the Scream” by Kate Wilhelm that was printed in Orbit in 1974. Odd coincidence.
Did Dark Horse advertise on the BOTTOM of busses? I heard nothing about this. The idea is great and I haven’t seen Bart Sears artwork since he was working with Valiant. First thing tomorrow I go and get The Scream. Thanks for the heads up.
If only there were some medium by which you could let your fans and readers know about your upcoming projects so that they could order those projects from comic shops.

Never mind, then!
I preordered this book despite Bart Sears’ attachment to it. While I appreciated his very early work, I am put off by his more recent work. That said, the premise intrigued me, since I am in the mental health field. The first thing I noticed when picking the book up last week was that the cover felt flimsy. Not an especially big deal, though using the same paper that the iunner pages were made from for the cover gave it a bit of a cheap throw away feel to it. Not sure if that will effect overall shelf sales, but it was a but off-putting and extremely noticable when I grabbed it.
The story was fun from the first page on and gained momentum as it went along. Sears’ take on the creautre on the final page was impressive and somehow seemed to fit.
Looking forward to issue #2.

I’ve been noticing the solicitations for the title in Previews for several months now.
I’ve been kind of curious why you haven’t been pimping it though.
I don’t recall seeing any comments here on your blog (though it is certainly possible I may have missed some) and there haven’t been any interviews that I’ve seen on sites like comicbookresources.com and newsarama.com (again, it is possible I just missed them).
I’ve sort of been waiting to hear you talk it up before deciding whether to commit on it or not.
So … why no word?
Because I didn’t know it was being solicited. I don’t read solicitations because they’re replete with spoilers. So I didn’t know it was finally scheduled.
My understanding is that several comic book websites (including the ones you mentioned) were approached by Dark Horse about doing stories on “The Scream,” and none were interested.

PAD, you’ve done marketing, do the solicits really need descriptions of the plots? Other than the occasional big event, so retailers really base their orders on what the plot of each individual issue is? It really doesn’t seem like it’s that necessary.
It held my interest but I just seemed like this was too close to being something like the Hulk without being the Hulk.
It even had the name alliteration.

Didn’t know about it until this post, either. When I asked for it at the comic store last time I went (a couple of Saturdays ago), the owner’s reaction was, “The Scream? What’s that.” He checked the box of the books he’d received that week and said, “Yeah…I’ve got a copy. For now.” with a knowing look.
Finally got a chance to read it last night, and it was certainly the quality I expect from your work. I’ll be back for the rest.
