FNSM

I wasn’t aware that Steve Wacker was going to announce on Newsarama that my run on FNSM was going to be coming to an end until my e-mail box lit up.

The fact is, I’ve known about it for months. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been writing some of the stories they way I have. I never intended, for instance, to combine the Uncle Ben storyline with the Sandman story. But Marvel’s new plans for the series meant that I had to do some fast shuffling and compression, so I took a deep breath, squished the two of them together so that I wouldn’t leave the Ben story thread dangling, and did my best. But the upcoming resolution to the Miss Arrow story and the following issue’s smackdown with Jonah Jameson are all at the ideal length, so ultimately I’m happier with those endeavors.

And all I can tell you is that no, I don’t have any holes in my schedule because I’ve picked up several new projects–both of which I’m very excited about–to pick up the slack which I’m hoping will be announced shortly. As for Spider-Man, as Steve kind of hinted, the other shoe hasn’t dropped yet.

  1. Peter, I am sorry to see you leaving FNSM. You wrote some great stories during your run.

On the other hand, I am glad that you will be assigned to other titles. I agree that you would be great replacing Dan Slott on SHE HULK.
Though I would not mind seeing you relaunch THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

  2. Thanks, Eric. Right after I made that post, I realized it must’ve meant that, based on the “six years” comment.

  3. Just a quick comment to all the people who are discussing how Marvel should not have let their writer know their run was ending from e-mails from their fans: they didn’t.

PAD clearly states in his post that he already knew about this for months (heck, he even explained how it compressed some storylines), he just didn’t know Marvel was going to announce it yet.

That’s what he found out from his inbox. That Marvel had announced what he’s known for months. Not that he was gone.

Oh, and I have to say I’m a little bit glad, as I am looking for titles to cut due to budget reasons (although I’m sure that’ll be short-lived once PAD’s new projects are announced. Just can’t keep away from his writing).

  4. The Starwolf,
“When staff get treated like disposable chips”

Look, what in ths post even suggests that PAD has been treated like a “disposable chip”?

Where has there been a post/quote/suggestion that the split between the PTB at Marvel and PAD on FNSM was anything but cordial and – perhaps – mutual?

As staed previously, PAD has an exclusive contract with Marvel which guarantees him work and shows Marvel is obviously appreciative of his abilities and output.
An X-book, “Wonder Man”. “1602” and “FNSM” – all while letting him work on “Fallen Angel” are not proof of that”?
Heck, the “Ultimate” version of Spider-Man is obviously the “definitive” vesion of the character for current fans, yet many say Bendis should leave. Whoever is right, it is clear Bendis has many ideas for the character, yet only a few will see print and only a few will be truly loved by fans.
Enjoy ans support what you have.

  6. Dear Mr. David, I’m sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine FNSM will be worth reading without you.

Well, if PAD takes over for Slott and Slott takes over for PAD, then I see the world being right again. If, however, there is no Slott, then I don’t see myself getting FNSM after issue #23.

  7. Bring back Spider-Man 2099. I used to be a regular reader of all the Spider-Man titles for years. Then one by one I began to drop them out of boredom. I would read a new Spider-Man 2099 comic even if it was just a one-shot. Hint, hint

  8. And drawn by Rick Leonardi.

Peter, I don’t know if you’re going to start a thread for Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1, which came out today, but I really enjoyed it. I added much of the info about Sandman’s origin in it to his Wikipedia article.

However, I found the last page a bit confusing. Why was a tiny Sandman and unconscious Spider-Man seem to be coming out of the sand castle? Was the superimposition of the two combatants intended to be abstract only?

And was the “masterpiece” intended to be Sandman killing Spider-Man?

    Thanks.

  9. Peter,
