Five years ago today

Kathleen and I got married. Many long-time friends were there, the bride was lovely (Kath has a photo up on her website), the weather was perfect, and Harlan Ellison’s best-man speech was…memorable. The following morning the whole family was awake by 4:30 AM and a few hours later we were all on the Disney Cruise for a Brady Bunch-esque Let’s-bring-the-kids honeymoon.

Thanks for being insane enough to marry me, love.

  1. Peter, my girlfriend and I just recently celebrated our 5th anniversary (we’ve no plans to get married, in case anyone decides to ask).

From one happy couple to another — Happy Anniversary! Ain’t love grand?

  2. Mazel Tov! I think you should bring the whole menagerie to Shore Leave this summer!

  3. happy anniversary man!

Wife and I are in our 3rd year and hoping that by the 5th we will have financially stableized enough to finally take a honemoon :$

but for all that she’s my bliss. If you’re as happy you are blessed.

  6. Happy Anniversary, Kathleen & Peter!!! I definitely think that Peter got the better end of the deal though…. 😉

This weekend (May 28) my wife and I celebrate our 10 anniversary. I surprised her with a trip to Las Vegas and reservations at the exact same restaurant (Emeril’s) we dined at the day we got married. (Same date & time no less.)

Congratulations once again to you both!

  7. Happy anniversary! My own very much the better half is asleep on the couch, recovering from an operation she had this morning. I eagerly wait on her hand and foot. Sickness and health and all that.

May you enjoy many years of well earned bliss.

  8. Congratulations to both of you, and best wishes for many more.

I don’t suppose a few quotes from Harlan’s speech are worth sharing here?

  9. Congratulations!

As strange as this’ll sound, whenever I contemplate happy marriages (my own or others) the song “Married” from Cabaret gets stuck in my head. (Tho’ the rest of the show is quite cynical, that particular song is uplifting, inspirational, and true, I find…)

Just an idle thought that, I hope, Broadway buffs like you can forgive me for.

    Congratulations again!

  10. Mazel Tov, Peter and Kathleen. And may you have many more years of happiness together.

  11. Heartiest of congratulations to the two of you. May there be many, many more happy years together.

  12. wow….five years….
You are a lucky lucky man Peter.

Happy five years and may you have many many more!

  13. May your lives together be as happy as I am with Stacie for as long as time ticks on.

  14. Harlan as best man…

May your future continue to be as interesting.

    Many happy returns!

  15. Happy Anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. David. Many happy returns of the day and may you both grow old together on the same pillow.

  16. Happy anniversary and may you have many more years of happiness together!
I’m new to this board, but have followed and enjoyed your writing for years.

  17. And the only down part of this happy anniversary; the fact that some dirty dog of a thief stole your backpack containing your wedding pictures.

Maybe that sounds petty and a long time ago to some of you. I’m still angry at Arthur Godfrey firing Julius LaRosa.

  18. PAD,

Let me add my congratulations. I have only been married 4 years, but it is like the prior 35 are but a distant memory. I am glad you met someone to share your life with and wish you many happy years to come.

  19. Happy Anniversary to you two 🙂 and congratulations.

    Stéphane.
