  1. As I said in an earlier post, well done Ariel.
Thanks Kath, for sharing the photo with us.

  2. I don’t think we COULD see that with Caroline. The trophy might be taller than she is!

Oh, wait, did you mean take Caroline bowling? Well, okay, but most people use a ball.

    Oh, wait, NOW I get it…no I don’t….

    Well, congrats anyway!

  3. Good Lord. You need to put an addition on to the house for that thing…

  4. Gonna need a bigger trophy case…

I never got such a big trophy…now I have trophy envy!

  5. And while you’re getting shelving made for her trophy, please, Mr. D…get a nice frame for that Eisner Award on the wall. You don’t get something that precious and stick it to the wall with bubble gum. It’s like getting the Best Actor Oscar and drilling a hole in it to make a pencil stand. Sheesh.

  6. Aloha from Hawaii!

Yes! An extremely nice trophy indeed!

I mean, sheesh, back in the day when our team managed to win an ABC sanctioned nine-month season… we got a pin. Maybe about an inch in diameter.

Place that next to Ariel’s trophy and, well, it’d get lost.

A fantastic trophy Ariel! Now, go and win more! Enter lots of tournaments! Go pro!

And best of all… bowl lots of games against dad and smoke him! The stories for Peter’s grandchildren one day will be priceless: “Yeah, you’re granddad can write… but he can’t bowl for anything!”

  7. Ariel, I’ve gone bowling on occasion and I suck (which is embarrassing because I’m part Polish and us Poles are supposed to be good bowlers)! It’s not an easy game! Be very, very proud of that trophy and the accomplishment it represents, young lady.

  8. That is one BIG trophy. Definitely ranks right up there with the one’s we saw at the Bowling Hall of Fame.

    Way to Go Ariel!

  9. Please congratulate Ariel for me. I gotta ask, is that a caricature of Isaac Asimov on the other side of Ariel?

  10. Andrew-
It was part of a sketch that Peter did eons ago. It was a prop and is signed by Dr. Asimov as well. (Yes I know we should frame that too)

  11. So, if you squeeze that pin in the middle of the base is that how you get the trophy to honk?

Or is it just when transporting it you need to attach bulb horns to it due to its size and liability reasons?; ” Trophy, coming through! Watch it, it’s moving! “

Seriously, big honkin’ congrats on it.

  12. Wonder if she’ll tape it to the wall like the Will Eisner comics industry award for best writer.

  13. Just to clarify what is behind Ariel’s head. That is a certificate for nomination not the award itself which is safely in Peter’s trophy room. Everyone who is nominated gets a piece of paper. If you win you get a solid award.

“Just to clarify what is behind Ariel’s head. That is a certificate for nomination not the award itself which is safely in Peter’s trophy room. Everyone who is nominated gets a piece of paper. If you win you get a solid award.”

Still, it’s an astonishing keepsake. To me, getting such a nomination would be precious in itself. It would say “Hey, dude, we recognize you exist.” You can’t imagine how rare such instances are. Get it framed and in the trophy case next to the award. (And obviously, with Ariel’s award, you will need to expand the trophy case, with additional space for her future trophies.)

  15. So many people are talking about the Eisner nomination slip and how it should be framed, but nobody’s talked about the spectacular product placement of having a picture of Ariel’s trophy prominently display “AWARD”, “PETER DAVID, and “BEST WRITER” in the background.

Sometimes, just sometimes, it’s obvious that Peter originally got his start in marketing. 🙂

And that said … major kudos to Ariel. What an awesome trophy!
