Pilot episode to a proposed animated series: Turned in. Producers working on making it happen. Will keep everyone informed.
Manuscript for “Fall of Knight”: Done. Some line-editing needed, but hopefully minor. WIll be turned in Monday morning. On schedule to be published in summer of 2006.
Script for X-Factor #4: Turned in.
Script for Soulsearchers #74: Turned in.
Fourth “Apropos” book: Here’s the thing, guys. Pocket Books is no longer acquiring original fantasy novels. And it’s difficult to move a series to another publisher since they can’t have the first three books. So I’m basically stuck at Pocket until I can get the rights reverted…which won’t be happening anytime soon since they keep going back to press with the first book, and are just coming out with the paperback of the third one. I’ll probably be working on doing short stories of the character in my copious spare time.
Sleep: BWAAAHAHAHA

That Apropos news is not what I wanted see…. Dammit.
BUT, any hints you can drop about this proposed animated series? Please?? Pretty please???
The last projects update, I think, mentioned a how-to-write-comics book for F&W. Is that moving along, too?
NO SLEEP FOR PAD!
New frontier book, more Hulk, and what the heck, throw a wolverine one shot on the pile while your at it.
….
No, no wait PAD put the knife down. I was only kiddin’…pad…pad?

When does the new X-Factor book hit the stands (actually, the same question applies to Fallen Angel)? And I do hope that if you, somehow, get the nod for one of the upcoming Firefly/Serenity books you’ll let us all know ASAP.
I’ll take more Apropos in any form and any medium. I think it’s the best work you’ve ever done, and I wasn’t happy with how the character was left at the end of the third book.
Just coming out with the paperback for the third book? Aren’t there three paperpacks of Sir Apropros already? (Sir Apropos of Nothing, The Woad To Wuin & Tong Lashing) Are they coming out with a new printing of the third paperback?
Hmm. Tor and Baen have both taken series without rights to the earlier books. Have you actually contacted either of them (well, more likely, had your agent contact them)?
It’s funny, isn’t it, that a company can be going back to press multiple times on a series novel, then allow their own policies to prevent them from publishing the next novel in the series?
Seems like foolishness to me.
Eric
I know we just saw the art for Fallen Angel a bit ago.
Do you still feel the passion for the character that you had when the DC series first came out? When you talk about the new series, your posts don’t have the fire of the early FA posts.
As one of the guys who gave FA a hard ‘grass roots’ push, I hope Lee is still a front burner character for you.
Looking forward to everything else too.
Well hearing that you have an interest in continuing Apropos’ story is more than the rumors I had heard, so to me this is good news. Hope it comes sooner rather than later of course, but I’m willing to wait it out if need be.
Mr. David,
This sir, is the reason why you are my all time favorite writer!
I remember when I was a kid of 14/15 and going to my first con ever, the only books I brought with me for autographs were parts 1 and 2 of Future Imperfect. I got them both signed by one PAD as well as the legendary George Perez, but it was your autograph I treasured above all others.
Now when will you do something with John Romita Jr. That is my dream project!
Sorry for being nostalgic, but I just finished reading Marvel Visionaries Peter David vol 2. Fantastic Read! With Todd McFarlane still cutting his chops and Jeff Purves making his debut.
I sure hope Marvel releases a third volume! Those are the issues when Jeff really comes into his own style and we get closer to my favorite storyline, the merged hulks!!! woo hooo
Sorry for rambling, again I was just feeling nostalgic and what better place to ramble about a medium I love by a creator I enjoy.

Seriously? I mean, I’ve been pushing it everywhere, and keep posting art for it. I feel more passionate about it then ever.

I still see fire. I think the only difference might be, is that when DC launched it, I think you had a sense it was going to be an uphill battle. The whole thing with not-Vertigo, not-DCU, the lumping on with those other “girl books” DC was launching, the Buffy comparisons… now it is more of a known quantity, it has more buzz, and IDW seems a lot more committed to pushing it than DC was. So maybe you just feel more secure and confident about it, and that’s what’s coming across. Which I think is a good thing, considering the alternative.
I think Fallen Angel is going to thrive in its new home.
X-Factor…really can’t wait.
Hold on a minute…
Poket Books keeps going back to press with the first Apropos book…so presumably it is, y’know, making money for them…
…but they won’t put out a new one.
I’m sure there are intricacies of the publishing world which my worldview is missing, but that just sounds kinda…dumb.

*chuckle* That’s the way it goes, for whatever reason.
I just find it funny that Pocket will continue to publish sci-fi (particularly, tie-ins outside of Star Trek), but not fantasy.
Very odd about Pocket not publishing Fantasy anymore especially when Fantasy is currently selling (typically) better than Science Fiction, though Media Tie-in is a different best.
Peter, haven’t seen anything lately about the series for TOR (Hidden Earth, right?), how is that progressing?
Peter, thank you for the update on Apropos, although I hate to hear there’ll be nothing for a while. Hëll of a character you created. I echo the sentiment stated above re not being so happy with where things were left at the end of “Tong.”
I am excited about another installment of Arthur’s story, though I can’t imagine where you’ll take him. Suppose that’s part of the fun though!
Can’t wait to find out about the animated series.
I have to echo the sentiment that I am sad there will be no more Apropos for the foreseeable future.
But fortunately there will be another Pendragon book and we do have Xfactor, Fallen Angel, and the other books that you are currently working on to keep the fans busy.
Tell your agent to go all Jack N (The Shinning) on pocket books and maybe that will speed up the Apropos 4 publishing glitch.
Regards:
Warren S. Jones III
thanks for the update, can’t wait for all of the above!
I’m especially interested in the animated series. Mainly because, instead of sitting like a lap dog and watching your con performances, I’ll have a genuine reason to approach you for a phone interview.
That is, if the thing actually gets made. No kidding; although there’s more good animation on TV than in decades, there are also more projects being strangled or shot down on the way. And God help you if the series isn’t “toyetic” – if it doesn’t feature characters and devices that can be turned into marketable toys.
If you can make a toyetic series, AND manage to retain the celebrated David wit and insight – then all you have to worry about are the paranoid network censors.
As to the sleep thing maybe you could do like Wolvie in the issue of What The? that you wrote, where he wears the patch over one eye at a time to get what sleep he could.
Course I didn’t say it was a good idea.
I know self-publishing is considered literary mášŧûrbáŧìøņ in the publishing world, but I’m reading “Broken Sword” as P.D.F. at the moment, and I’ve got to say I’m liking it. It would seem you’ve already got an inbuilt fanbase going on, and it sounds low investment to me.
Except in terms of time, of course.
Oops. That should be “Gods above”. Which I finished, and immediately downloaded “Stone and Anvil”! This is cool!
