Having a Disney Day

Spent the morning at Animal Kingdom, with the highlight being an audioanimatronic velociraptor named “Lucky” who actually free-range walks down the streets of the AK’s Dinosaur section. We saw him just in time since, at the end of the month, he’s being shipped off to the newly opening Hong Kong Disney (now all we need is a gigantic free-roaming Godzilla for Tokyo Disney.)

Not sure what to do about dinner. We had reservations at a restaurant in the Magic Kingdom where Caroline would have a chance to meet Pooh and friends. Unfortunately she is currently sound asleep and we’re reluctant to wake her, since that will put her in a fiercely bad mood for the rest of the evening. We don’t want to be the kind of parents who basically browbeat our kids into having fun.

We’ll be at the Adventurers Club this evening, just me and Kath getting to be grown-ups. Ariel has gamely agreed to watch her little sister tonight.

  1. Well, hey, we’re going to UNO down the street from DisneyWorld. Just leaving now. See you there, ‘kay?

(RainForest Cafe is pretty good, try there 🙂 )

  2. Wish I could join you. I work tonight. Give a salute to the Colonel for me.

If you ever get out of the tourist areas of Orlando, I can recommend any of the Shells restaurants for terrific seafood. For steaks, any of the Charley’s Steak Houses (International Drive, 17-92 or South Orange Blossom Trail) are superb.

  3. I leave in 2 weeks and will be missing Lucky but I’ve heard awesome things about him. Crystal Palace is always excellent , the food is good and the Pooh gang is just a bonus for the kids. Make sure you get over to EPCOT and check out the new Crush show, it’s supposed to be awesome for kids.

  4. Wow… my sister has invited me to go with her, her husband and the 2 kids (ages 3 and 1 1/2 now) for the last 2 summers. I’m psyched to experience it again and with them, but responded to her that I will love to go with them in another year or two.

    Have fun there!!

    Fred

  5. Sorry to hear you may be missing Crystal Palace, good food and good exp. with the Pooh gang.

Also, along with the up-list suggestion, don’t miss Soarin’, very cool ride.

I don’t know about “free-roaming” (too much chance of someone getting stepped on), but otherwise that sounds awesome.

Or maybe a gigantic (to scale) version of the original Megazord for Disney Califonia?

That would be so awesome. I knew there had to be some sort of upside to Disney owning the Saban properties.

Anyway, I haven’t been to Disney World in a long time. I should go down again someday. I’ve gotta see Animal Kingdom someday for the gorilla habitat.

  8. If the get the Megazord, Brian’s gonna say “Daddy! Look! It’s the big one like I have!” And I’m gonna be the one stuck dragging him and my wife across the country to see it and all the other things that they have and basically having the time of, well, the year. That would be JUST AWFUL!

  9. Ack. My wife and I considered going down to PI and the A Club Saturday night but decided against it since we were tired. Too bad, it would have been a hoot to hang out there with Peter! 🙂

Gotta love the Adventurers Club. It’s perhaps the most fun place to hang out at Disney. The cast members there are almost unanimously funny, hysterical, and amazing at improv and thinking on their feet. And 95% of the people who go through PI don’t even give it a chance because they’d rather be outside doing jello shots.
