I’ve turned in the second draft for the CGI animated film, “Gene Roddenberry’s Starpoint Academy.” The heartening thing is that the producers, IDT Entertainment, have just signed a two year, multipicture deal with 20th Century Fox. So that increases somewhat the actual odds of the picture being made. That would be exceptionally cool, especially since they’re looking to try and build it up as a series rather than a one-off. Of coure, it’s showbiz, so anything can happen, but if my involvement should continue through to the end (so that the credits read “Screenplay by Peter David” as opposed to “Screenplay by Peter David and six other guys”) that will put me in pretty good position for continued participation.
At the moment, working as fast as my little fingers can fly on finishing the next “New Frontier” novel. Usually when I write novels, the beginning is very slow going and then as the story moves along, I start to write faster and faster as if I can barely keep up with the story unspooling in my head. In this instance I’ve been barreling along almost from the beginning, so hopefully that will be reflected in the final MS.

Great news Peter.
I hope that the CGI movie will be on par with the animation in Final Fantasy or the Animatrix.
And the new Captains Table is out with a short story that centers around Captain Shelby.
That should keep me occupied for a little while as I await the next New Frontier Hardcover.
Keep up the great work.

Any chance for a preview reading from the new NF novel at Shore Leave? That, coupled with the promised MTT3K, would make a usual great con even more memorable.
Well i agree with the above sentiments but would like to make a request about the ST:NF novel:
Please keep the humour in! I mean the trademark oneliners!
I know it will be there but had to say it …
Thanks for the update!
You had mentioned about the possibility of another Sir Apropo of Nothing nove, is that going to happen?
I forgot the name of the other book you were working on besides NF, but you did mention the company’s namr: TOR. Any updates on this novel that you are working on?
Peter:
I’ve never read you mention your and Kathleen’s translation/dialoguing or whatever you call it of the Negima! manga. Are you still doing those, too, because I saw someone else’s name on the latest volume. Those are a lot of fun, and I could pick out some of your jokes that I’m sure were not part of the original.

Is the project at least far enough along to be given an idea, even if only described, of what the animation house’s style on the project will look like?
I don’t know if I am the only person who has tried to find these books in the bookstore only to be irked at (1) not being able to tell what the order is, etc and (2) not being able to FIND THEM and then just giving up. If I am, never mind.
If I’m not, I found this link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/series/-/89705/paperback/ref=pd_serl_books/103-7721438-4182239 on Amazon. A nice simple 1..N listing of the books so I don’t spend $7 and find myself saying “Wha…?”
Quick, turn off the lights and hide behind the couch. X-ray han’t posted here yet. Maybe we can make him think this thread isn’t at home and he’ll go away!

Woo HOO! Looking forward to them both PAD!
Peter,
GOOD JOB, MAN! Starpoint looks to be fun, and more New Frontier is ALWAYS welcome. Just a question–when you write, do the ideas arrive in your head Athena-like waiting to be released or do you just start with some interesting scenes saying “Here they are, let’s take ’em for a ride?” I’ve worked both ways, the former is the screenplay I’m working on and the latter being the books I’ve written that I’ve gotta dust off and see if I can do anything with.
Just wondering.
Do you ever sleep Peter?
love the new frontier series.. can’t wait!
and since i’ll be without a current trek series for a while, i need all the original trek books i can get my hands on.
Do you ever sleep Peter?
He works from home. Assuming he’s mastered the plotting while in the shower technique, that gives him 3 to 6 hours a day more than the rest of us have. (Estimate based on DC and Baltimore traffic. It could be worse in New York.) Lucky bum. That’s (on average) 30 hours a day. Minus out bowling and family time, that’s still about 12 hours a week to cram in extra sleep time.
And I’ll try to make Shore Leave this year Peter… but I’ve missed every convention appearance you’ve made in DC/Baltimore since 1992. The people who run my comic shop joke that if we were in same city at the same time it would cause the universe itself to implode. On second thought, that’s not a theory I’m willing to test out. After all, the universe is where I keep all my stuff.
Hi Peter,
‘just wanted to say I’ve found your blog great to read since I found it, and appreciate your views on politics, TV, and the rest – and of course, the insight into your latest works.
I am eagerly awaiting the next in the New Frontier series. I commend you on taking the series (already known for being bold) in a new direction. It adds a certain something that there isn’t (necessarily) going to be a “reset button”. Keep up the good work!
“That’s (on average) 30 hours a day.”
Wow!
I wish I could work hard enough to create 6 extra hours.
…No, on second thought, I don’t. There must be an easier way…!
Anyone have a spare Tardis they’re not using?
RLR
I meant 30 a week. But I have heard some REALLY nasty stories about Holiday traffic in Baltimore that could make my previous statement correct.
I could smack myself. I’ve been reading Negima ever since its US release and I never noticed…
Well, if there ever was a match made in fan service heaven, it’s Akamatsu-San and David-San.

More New Frontier !! More New Frontier !! And by the way, loved the last Apropos book, was an awesome read !!
I am crossing fingers that everything will work out well with the screenplay 🙂
I am also happy that the next NF book makes good progress. Psi Phi is posting that “Missing in Action” is preliminarily scheduled for February next year. If it could come out earlier than that it would be great but of course, take all the time you need. I can wait 🙂
Hopefully you will be able to read an excerpt at Shore Leave. I don`t think I will ever be able to come but I know a few fans who visit the convention regulary. I am so very much hoping for some teasers!
I have just been reading messages on the Psi Phi board and want to add a P.S. now:
A fan posted some information he found in some “catalogs” available through the Simonsays website about New Frontier: Missing in Action:
“Following the dramatic events seen in After the Fall, the crew of the U.S.S. Excalibur is lost in space, somehow thrown headlong into the mysteries and dangers of the distant Andromeda Galaxy…and no sooner do they arrive when they are caught in the middle of a genocidal war. Now Captain Mackenzie Calhoun must decide where his true loyalties lie – either to save an oppressed race from certain destruction or ally himself with violent alien warriors if he ever wants to get the Excalibur home again!
Marco Palmieri already said that this synopsis is wholly and completely inaccurate. Nevertheless, I thought maybe PAD is not aware of this and would like to know what is published about his book so far.
Peter, when is the new NF novel supposed to come out? Is there a date set yet?

Are you kidding…. after that Hulk run I’m not entirely sure that Peter didn’t put the ‘fake’ synoposis there himself just to confuse people. Though remaking Voyager only good would be kind of interesting.
Though I do have one question… who would win in a ship to ship battle Calhoun and the Excalibur or Vaughn when he was in charge of Defiant?
Always these A vs. B postings… Would it not be much more interesting to see Calhoun and Vaughn as a team?
Always these A vs. B postings…Would it not be much more interesting to see Calhoun and Vaughn as a team?
I thought about that. Given that both have a fairly deep intelligence backgrounds, they’d have had plenty of occasions to meet but Mac didn’t seem to recognize Vaughn at the holoconference in Gateways. I haven’t finished reading DS9 season Eight so I don’t know about after that. I recommended a ship to ship fight because bear fisted brawl is no contest. As experienced as Mac is… Vaughn’s been around a lot longer and been doing intel work for longer than Calhoun has been alive. He’s probably forgotten more martial arts training than anyone on the Excalibur (save for maybe Morgan who can’t do them outside of a Holodeck.)
Come to think of it… if Morgan was who everyone seems to think she was, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Vaughn knew her at some point.
And no, Vaughn couldn’t take Kebron. That’s more of a bulk mass issue… not a skill reason. With muscles that can bend steel girders, Kebron doesn’t neccessarily have to be all that great a martial artist to take down anyone.
I’m always glad to hear more news on the NF series. It’s one of my favorite series. In fact, I think it’s the only Star Trek novels I still read.
I was glad to see Xyon make another appearance in the latest book. He’s been my favorite since his introduction. I knew there was a chance at a comeback due to the ending of “Dark Allies.”
I also thougholy enjoyed the chemistry between Xyon and Soleta in “After the Fall. I hope to perhaps see more in the future, but no matter what happens, I always enjoy the books themselves.
