Moviepoopshoot.com on “Fallen Angel”

Moviepoopshoot.com listed “Fallen Angel” in their 2004 round-up as “The Best Book You’re Not Reading.” Which I guess is pretty good, except for the “Not Reading” part. You can check it out or, if you wish, here’s an excerpt. Interestingly, they featured the cover of issue #14 about which I just got an e-mail from a frustrated fan who can’t find it in any local store.

  1. James is right – this is the best book I’m reading. Is it just me though or is there a touch of anti-intellectualism in comics when people get more excited about putting the X-Men back in tights than reading Fallen Angel? Given the rubbish put out by both Marvel and DC I’m amazed more people haven’t gravitated to it already…

  2. Congrats on the recognition. Let’s hope a huge amount of potential future fans are reading that site and are directed to begin reading the comic. I want sales to be so strong they won’t think of cancelling it for the next 50 years! (Or until you’ve written all the stories you have in you for the characters, whichever comes first.)

  3. I was recently visiting with a friend of mine to whom I had loaned the trade of JMS

  4. Nice interview on the Westfield site. (westfieldcomics.com) So, by my math you need to sell 4000 more comics to break 15,000? Now, where did I put my checkbook…..
A joke, but I will continue to promote the book to everyone I know.

  5. I know that it’s a minor peeve, but awhile ago a website emailed me that I had won a free copy of the Fallen Angel TPB, and that they just needed my mailing address. I emailed it to them and they never responded. I’ve emailed them a few times since and gotten no response. Annoying.

  6. I finally picked up a copy of the trade today – it involved going to a different store than the one I ordered it from, but I got it in the end).

I liked it. A lot. More than I thought I would, actually. From the buzz around the title I was afraid that it would be too mysterious for my tastes – something akin to what The X-Files became after 5 or so seasons. Fortunately, the mysteries (for me) sat nicely in the background where they could sit and be mysterious without interfering with my enjoyment of the story.

I look forward to swinging by the shop (the new one, not the old one) and getting caught up on the rest of the series. No waiting for the next trade for me!

  7. Wow! Nice to continue to garner critical acclaim despite the hiatus between issues. Hopefully this sort of publicity will keep DC from pulling the plug on this title.

Of course, we fans need to continue the grass roots movement of spreading the word locally and buying multiple copies of each issue.

Has there been any news on whether there will be an issue 21? Or a second trade?

  8. Speaking as a comicbook cape ‘n tights traditionalist, I tend to approach anything beyond the beam with a little suspicion. But after getting word about the cool of Fallen Angel from Aintitcoolnews, I decided to track down the trade, which I found quite easily at my friendly neighborhood comics store, Another Dimension Comics here in Calgary, Alberta. Needless to say, I found Fallen Angel to be really, really entertaining. A nice blend of superhero-esque and supernatural, of noir and neato. Consider me a one of those ‘neverreaders’. ~.^

  9. PAD or anyone:

Any word on when the 2nd Trade is coming out? I can’t find the back issues and would just as soon have the trade.

    Thanks.

  10. Your FALLEN ANGEL is better than anything Joss Whedon has ever written…keep it coming.

  11. First off, let me say congrats PAD, on your recognition for the book.

    But…
    Kevin Hall,
“This is the best book I am reading”
    Glad you enjoy it.

“Is it just me though or is there a touch of anti-intellectualism in comics when people get more excited about putting the X-Men in tights than reading ‘Fallen Angel’?”

It’s just you, and by making this statement you are being a pseudo-intellectual snob.
First, just because you enjoy a particular book doesn’t mean everyone else has to or is stupid for not enjoying it or being aware of it like you are.
Second, the “X-men in tights” comment. Are you actually reading Whedon’s “Astonishing X-Men”? The pacing is great, the dialogue is sharp and snappy and he is doing new things with the characters while being respectful of the past. In a way, it is PAD’s “Hulk” on steroids. THAT is what people are excited about.

Third, “Given the rubbish put out by both Marvel and DC, I’m amazed more people haven’t gravitated to it already.”
Actually, with writers like J. Michael Straczynski, Neil Gaiman,Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, Geoff Johns, Mark Waid, Ed Brubaker, Jeph Loeb and Brian Vaughnan and Brian Michael Bendis (and Orson Scott Card coming soon) I hardly think many titles should be classified as rubbish. heck, Tom DeFalco tells good, solid stories in “Spider-Girl” every month. None of these gentlemen may be your cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean their work is of poor quality.
If you want more people to read “Fallen Angel”, spread the word or, better yet, buy some copies and give them to people.
ust remember, it is not necessary to tear other titles down in order to build yours up.
