A friend of mine wrote and asked me if I remember the ranks from the old Merry Marvel Marching Society, and how one attained them.
My recollection is patchy. I know there was Fearless Face Fronter and Permanent Marvelite Maximus. But there were about four others, and I don’t recall the order or what qualified you.
Anyone out there recall?
And before you post, make sure no one else already answered, so we don’t have twenty entries saying the same thing.
Thanks.

Peter,
If no one here can tell you I’m sure Mark Evanier would know.
Actually, my guess would be that you could clock with an egg timer how long it’ll take for Mark to answer it here himself. He’s kind of like “Beetlejuice” in that regard: Say his name three times and he shows up.
Evanier. Evanier. Evanier.

A quick google search turned up this:
6. Real Fanatic One
5. Titanic True Believer
4. Quite ‘Nuff Sayer
3. Keeper of the Flame
2. Fearless Front-Facer
1. Permanent Marvelite Maximus

Gee, that wasn’t Mark Evanier that showed, but it sure got you your answer darn quick by saying his name 3 times!
Wasn’t Mark Evanier the one who came up with them in the first place? (Or at least first suggested them?)
As for what you had to do to earn each rank, here you go:
Real Fanatic One: A buyer of at least three Marvel mags a month.
Titanic True Believer: A divinely-inspired No-Prize winner.
Quite ‘Nuff Sayer: A fortunate Frantic One who’s had a letter printed.
Keeper of the Flame: One who recruits a newcomer to Marvel’s rollickin’ ranks.
Permanent Marvelite Maximus: Anyone possessing all four of the other titles.
Fearless Front-Facer: An honorary title bestowed for devotion to Marvel above and beyond the call of duty.
According to a recent blog entry, Mark Evanier did indeed come up with the idea for the ranks of the MMMS.

Heh. No-Prize. That takes me back. Hmm – Maybe DC should give that idea some long, hard thought.

DC used to give out the “Baldy” (and I’m thinking this was speficic to the Superman group of books under Carlin).
I declare myself a Permanent Marvelite Maximus. Bow down before me! 😉
Man, I love the old corny days of Marvel! 🙂
Thanks, Peter, for getting me the info so quickly. Your group here really came through!
