Dreamwave has informed me that the second issue of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has sold out.
Also, FYI, issue #5 will be the first issue that is wholly original and not a “re-view” of one of the animated episodes. It’s a lot of fun; Raphael rescues a cat from a tree, which sets off a chain of events that ends up with him fighting for his life.
Really.

Would the villain be the “Terror-Pin?”
Extremely bad pun. Sue me. It’s been a hëll of a week.

Must been one hëll of a nasty cat.
Lemme guess–it’s Pandora, and it turns out that that other cat she fought with gave her rabies?
🙂
it’s about dámņ time you made mention here of your work on TMNT. comics are such a collaborative artform and in the case of the turtles comic, everything falls into place. peter’s wit and plot twists and characterization combined with lesean’s high energy steam engine grafitti stylings makes for a brilliant read. but then the icing on this locomotion cake has gotta be the immaculate pen and ink work, the color imaging, lettering, and the high quality glossy paper used rather than the cheaper pulp in most comics (like in FA). i wasn’t gonna stick with this title since i’m not much of a turtles fan (i’m more of a fish fan myself), but after reading issue 2 i think i’m hooked. looks like you may have found an outlet for your wackier tales now that spyboy and young justice have been šhìŧ-canned.
i always thought that if there had been some minor changes in SG that the title could have been saved. simple things (though i’m sure costly) like better paper and color separations, a more modern lettering style (like the fonts over in the house of ideas’ ultimates line) could have made a world of difference in how the public reacted to the series. sometimes a heavy weight writer (that’s not a crack at any physical dispositions) and incredibly gifted visual storyteller (i’m talking leonard kirk here, not flashy pin-up artist, ed benes [though i enjoyed his work too]) aren’t enough. it’s gotta be packaged right.
i think that’s my minor complaint with FA as a series. i’m really picky, i think, and the visual aspect of the series left me wanting for more. someone like you, peter, i would think would be able to draw some big names. alan moore seems be able to get the talent. look at that artist on promethea (can’t recall his name). neil gaimen gets kubert over on 1602, and grant morrison gets frank quitely on new x-men…who decides these things? i know it’s much more complicated than just exclaiming, “o, i want to work with alan davis this month!!!!”, or “send bill sienkewicz to my office! he’s gonna draw some panels for this new series i’m cooking up!!”
CM was on the mark up until issue 6 when chriscross was pulled during the final innings (that was a cheap shot, too).
what’s cross doing now? maybe you and he could re-ignite your working relationship over in FA if this other guy leaves.
looking forward to this new creator owned series for dreamwave you have brewing with leonard. if it’s put together as perfectly as TMNT it’ll be a heavenly read.
Congrats … I think. But given some past blog entries several weeks back, I’ve gotta ask:
Is this a good “Sold Out,” or a bad “Sold Out”? (And the first one who answers with a high-pitched “I’m not a sold-out at all!” gets it right between the eyes.)
Honestly curious as to when we should be pleased and when we shouldn’t.

Sorry it sold out Peter.

Putting aside the high caliber of the writers involved, the top artists are going to go to the projects that are going to get the top promotion. Books by Neil, by Moore, Morrison on a mutant book…these get the full court press.
Still, it’s not so bad to be the guy who gets the up-and-comers with tons of potential. I think Dave Lopez is definitely one of these, and as the book goes on, I think you’ll only see exponential improvement. It’s exciting to see that kind of development. Now if we can just avoid losing him in a year to some high profile project from a British writer, we’ll be all set.

Y’know what? By this point, I’m not sure. All I know is that Dreamwave was really really happy about it. They said they’re thrilled with the sales and seemed very pleased the book was sold out. So I guess I’ll go with their take on it this time.

I thought this title was a limited series? Is it? or have I been misled?
I missed the first issue. Any news on a trade paperback yet? Sure, it’s only been two issues, but you never know. Marvel’s been putting some of those trades out within two months of the storyline’s completion. Captain Marvel included, I believe. So I don’t suppose Dreamwave would put out a trade by, say, issue 6 or 7? Pretty please?
If they’re happy with the results, will they be reprinting it? If so, then we know fur sure that it’s really good news.
I’ve got one of ’em. Congrats!
Is this an ongoing series or a mini?
I’ve seen references to it being both.
I hope it’s an ongoing cause I love TMNT and this series is a lot of fun to read.
Sorry to hear TMNT #2 sold out, but on the bright side Fallen Angel #1 didn’t so at least that title is still available to everyone. Congratulations on the success of Fallen Angel!
Semi-congrats, Mr. David (what did you expect from someone who doesn’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing).
I’ll definitely have to check out # 5. While the “re-viewing” of the episodes is okay, I’d rather see some original stuff.
I know you said it’s not a “good thing” when your books sell out, but I’m still taking it as a sign of the titles popular acceptance! Congratulations and keep up the good work! I love the series!
Good thing, bad thing — I still can’t find a copy of #1 and it’s pìššìņg me off.
Dreamwave’s so happy — they should reprint. (my local comic shop owner was shorted — he order 12 and got 4)
Man, I can’t find one or two anywhere (sold out doesn’t always mean sold out) and as you mentioned before, I’m not gonna buy number three if I don’t know what happened in the first couple.
Please tell me that there’s going to be a trade collection of the first few issues in the future.
