This is Kathleen posting under Peter’s name. He is at AggieCon this weekend and will be at I-Con next weekend. I’ll be at I-Con with Peter, Ariel, and Caroline.
Not that this matters at me right now. I have seen the last episode of Farscape and well ….WHAT THE FRELL!
That is the last image I am left with? (spoilers in the extented teext)
OK, I am a bit upset that SciFI didn’t give them a bit more warning.
The piles of dust in the boat was a very sucky place to leave it. Not to mention Chyana…
Kathleen

I know exactly how you feel. What the f***! I hadn’t watched Farscape for like two years, and when I heard it was ending, I started watching again (albeit, infrequently). It was so good. I loved it! The episode where they had all the reactions to the Moya crew on Earth was TV at it’s finest. And then the world screws me with that ending! And to be even more of a bášŧárd, “To Be Continued” ? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
All I have to say, is that there better be a Farscape mini-series or movie on the horizon, or I’m just going to be so pìššëd øff.
toodles
Tell me about it. If they had ended it just a minute earlier I wouldn’t have minded. Heck if they had ended with the line about timing I wouldn’t of minded. Even the actually ending would have been something. But no — we had to have yet another show with an unresolved cliffhanger and that dren from the sci-fi channel thanking them for the four seasons.
David
I hated the part where Sci-fi channel thanked them. It felt like them were just rubbing it all in.
But the rest: whoa. I did NOT expect that. Holy Frell indeed!
That..ending..whoa. Such a Farscape ending. lol!
I was really loving it and then..bam.
Frell the sc-fi channel.
*sigh*

I’m sorry, I can’t go along with the fans who are of the ‘If it just ended one minute earlier…’ opinion. Following that line of reasoning, Brazil would have been such a better movie it had ended with the happy, going-off-into-the-sunset ending rather than the one that Terry Gillian fought so hard to retain. If you don’t believe me, go off and buy the Criterion edition of Brazil which has both versions, and tell me which you prefer. All too often, endings have to be smoothed out, softened, watered down to make them more palatable for the general public. The ending could easily have been changed in post-production, which tells me that it was a deliberate decision to leave it that way, and you have to respect that. Basides, I seem to remember the weird alien guy being instructed to ‘neutralize for analysis.’ So unless he was planning on analyzing them with a Stanley Steamer, that leaves the door wide open as far as I’m concerned.
I thought it was hilarious, and appropriate for a show that never went quite where it was expected to go. I’m sure that if there had been another season, there would have been a deneutralizer ray or something, maybe Crichton would have ended up with the pregnancy, or something goofy. Thank you Farscape for a good run.
While I am just as frustrated as anybody else about the series premature cancellation, I don’t have a problem with the conclusion. The stuff in the bottom of the boat didn’t look like any sort of remains- and anything that would do that sort of damage would have destroyed the ring. Perhaps a teleporter that requires a swap-out with matter of similar density- say, a bunch of assorted small pellets? It may only work on organic material, which is why the ring didn’t go- buckles and other metal objects would be buried under the pellets. To be honest, I find the situation with Chianna more worrisome. Espically with the satifiying end points on most of the other plots, this is probably the least frustrating of the season- enders. Except, of course, for the fact that there isn’t really a “to be continued” waiting for us at the other end. Still, what a great journey for four years.
What a ride. That’s all I can say. The show that my father and I loved the most is now gone. So no more bonding, right?
Fathers and sons: How cool was the scene between John and his dad. Not too sappy.
And the ending (?)What a way to go… I’d like to say I saw it coming, but then I’d be a dámņ, dirty liar. What a ride.
Well, my old man and I are done with the SF channel… If you are too send ’em an e-mail and let ’em know.
We all know how good t.v. can be now. Thanks, Farscape
Well, considering the writers and producers were already(to my knowledge) done with production prior to getting word of the axe being dropped, I figure the only thing they had money enough to afford changing was the addition of a farewell statement at the end. I also figured the ‘To be continued’ was a deliberate statement that they wanted to leave in to say to those of us who hope the show doesn’t stay axed that they will try to return. Although Peter made it clear in his earlier comments that the stopper to all that was the destruction fo the sets and other materials which were the most costly items to maintain.
Still, I figure there is a chance someone might buy the rights and try to encourage the actors to come back?
I read (I think it was in Entertainment Weekly) that the ending was left that way intentionally. They could have changed it, but decided not too.
Was anyone reminded of the Buffy 5th season finale? You have the montage at the beginning, then the BS “thanks, but we don’t wanna pay for more” from the network.
Re: Bad Timing
What can I say, other than for a show that always found ways to excite you to watch it more, the ending to 4.22 left us with more to ponder. Who was that alien? Who did he work for? Will Chiana regain her sight? And who’s going to oversee the marriage ceremony, if it’ll ever happen?
The show had a good ride, compared to how a lot of shows of the genre don’t even last a whole season, despite praise. The cast was great, and loved the show. You can tell that by how they came to the States a lot these past few months to meet fans who have been fighting for them.
Even though it would have hurt SG-1, I think instead of being nice, fans should have just turned off the tv after FS or switched to a different channel. Maybe that would have helped somewhat. But that’s just an idea.
Don’t forget, David Franklin (Braca) is a guest at I-Con next weekend!
When FARSCAPE first came on, it was awful: a mix of sci-fi stereotypes (the turned enemy, the arrogant jerk, the noble warrior, the enlightened mystic, the cocky adventurer). Over time it grew, with elaborate storylines, character development, and great cliffhangers.
And now it’s over. Or is it?
While the ending was stunning, it’s hardly final. It wasn’t a “typcial” death (they weren’t shot, or crushed, or decapitated) and there could easily be some type of resurrection beam — as Eric pointed out, they even could have been transported. (If memory serves, one of the PAD Hulk storylines showed the Hulk’s ashes where a bomb had gone off. We later learned that he had been teleported away at the last minute and replaced with a statue; the statue made everyone think the Hulk was dead.)
Of course, if they *are* dead it’s the most depressing series finale since TWIN PEAKS.
BTW, I absolutely loved hearing “previously on FARSCAPE” and then showing quick clips from every single past episode!

In my post I did say even thae actual ending would have been something. It’s just the “to be continued” when it won’t be that gets me. I don’t mind an unhappy ending ala Brazil or Blake’s 7, I’m just sick of having a show end on yet another unresolved cliffhanger.
David
Not that this has anything to do with anything, but the final episode of Blake’s 7 wasn’t meant to be the final episode. Script editor Chris Boucher just thought he was writing a dandy cliffhanger which could have been resolved in season five. The nifty thing about seemingly killing off most of the main characters is that the ones who asked for more money stayed dead. The rest were only stunned. And going back to Farscape, I agree that the final message from Sci-Fi was about as hypocritical as you can get.
I don’t know who screamed louder: Me or Dargo. I was so frilling pìššëd. I mean couldn’t they have given us just this once a happy ending that didn’t have to go anywhere? It’s cruel, I tell you. Ah the humanity. (I also wish they could have worked Zhann and Krass back into it for the ending. I didn’t mind though that there was no D.K. the frilling whinner.)
By the way I’m going to miss the show. I did like the opening though, “Preveously on ‘Farscape’,” then we cut to a series of highlights from the last four years, then “Finally on ‘Farscape’.”
Anyway, here’s hoping for a Farscape movie and life sized Aeryn dolls for everybody. Josh
The universe of Farscape is not a nice place. They told us this in the very beginning. “Boy, was Spielberg ever wrong.”
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with characters who are mortal. These “people” have always been one step ahead of death. Figures it would catch up the one time they catch a breather.
This show really loved putting its characters through the wringer, making them suffer just for being alive. I’m gonna miss that sense of humor. (You gotta admit, the writers must have had a lot of fun doing it.)
“Neutralize for analysis” means sweep up the pieces and put then under a microscope.
They’re dead, folks. That’s what the lingering shot of the engagement ring symbolized. Aeryn said she’d always known how they would end, and she smiled as the alien craft swooped down. She knew and was at peace with it.
A meaningless death after triumph, completely unexpected, and perfectly within the character of Farscape itself.

I have to admit. I was curious why they just didn’t dive into the water. It’s not like they were completely helpless out there? It almost seemed like they either wanted to die, or knew something else was going on. But since Aeryn said it was typical timing for them, it seems the incident caught them off guard.
Since the scenes had to have been written prior to any knowledge of the cancellation, it’s obvious to me they would not have been dead had the show continued, but decided it could be alleged since they were canceled. At least until, or should, the show be picked up by another network or studio for continuation.
MYOB’
Folks, there will be more Farscape. ADV Films, the distributor of the home video release, as well as the distributor of alot of anime, as well as a company that has created animated films of its own, announced pre-production on Farscape the Animated Series some months back.
I’m surprised the news hasn’t reached fandom at large.
Holy Frellin’ Dren, indeed!!
I was performing with an improv troupe last night at eight o’clock. I set a VCR timer for ‘SpongeBob…’ at 8:00, and another for the ‘Farscape’ midnight re-broadcast.
I got home well before midnight, but exhausted ( not only from the show, but the last couple of days had been long’uns! ) . I opted to hit the hay, and not watch the re-broadcast ‘live’, but this morning, after breakfast.
Which I did.
David Kemper hit the nail on the head in the ‘Entertainment Weekly’ blurb referred to here earlier:
“People are gonna get to the end. and they’re simply gonna stare at the screen in silence,
Mm-hm, yep, `did that.
“And then they’re gonna start laughing,
Check.
“And then they’re gonna start crying,
Double-check.
“And then they’re gonna start screaming.”
AND I STILL AM!!!
Hooper
Oh!, by the way….
>>the ending to 4.22 left us with more to ponder. Who was that alien? Who did he work for?<<
The closed captioning, referring to the off -screen voice, said: ‘QUJAGAN’.
I came into ‘Farscape’ late, and haven’t seen every back episode…..
Does that name ring a bell with anyone else out there??
Hooper
We in UK saw the last episode on the BBC monday week ago. Ending like thet sucks.
They did it with Alien Nation;
They did it with Space, above and beyond;
They even did it with Red Dwarf;
Why do the torment me soo much (sob)
Forgot to say…
The BBC fourm for Farscape had over 40 pages of comments ( a page may have up to 40 comments) on it within the first 24 hours of the last Farscape. We like our sci-fi in the U of K!
Btw, just so you all know…
The next Farscape mag, to be released next month, will have a brand new story in it by Rockne O’Bannon (creator of Farscape)
The story will be set in the future at the funeral of *censored*.
The story is supposed to reveal some stuff. SO I highly recommand grabbing the next issue if you can (its going to be 100-pages full of Farscape greatness. A story, an episode guide for the entire series, & more).
Oh and before I go, here’s a spoiler from the story:

I read a preview on-line and Crichton is ALIVE.
Very alive. In fact he’s…300 and something years old.
How is that possible? Well in the preview it said that the translator microbes actually extend life. When systems are starting to fail the microbes fix what needs to be fix.
SO, forget the ‘John is dead’ thing.
He’s not.
Btw, you can check out the preview for the story at: http://www.farscapeworld.com
(the best frelling Scape website out there, imo)

>>They did it with Alien Nation;

Well, it may be a bit of a stretch, Mark, but they even did it with ‘Mork & Mindy’!
Mork’s existance as an alien on Earth was revealed, their house was destroyed, they were fleeing from an alien assassin, and the last shot was of the two of them, lost in the time stream, hurtling toward who-knows-what!
As a kid, I thought that was a sucky way to end things as much as I feel, as an adult, ‘Farscape’ ended much too soon!!
And that on-screen ‘Thank You’ from Sci-Fi….was that just the epitome of crocodile-tear hypocrisy or WHAT??!
Hooper
That’s how they ended Hitch-hiker’s guide to the Galaxy, but then, that’s how they began it too.
The best “downer” ending for me was the last episode of The Others, where all the characters were killed in different ways. I liked that show.
I worked with Anthony Simcoe (D’Argo) last year at two cons in Massachusetts, and never asked him about the show’s ending. Instead, I thought of this as an ending:
We see Cricton wake up. Its morning, and it looks like he’s on Earth. Was it all a dream, he wonders as sits up in the bed. He realizes that the bed is made for two, and that the other side was slept in. A bit forward, he hears the shower in the bathroom. Someone’s showering? Who? He gets up to look, and when he opens the shower curtain….
“About frellin time you got up, sweetie. Now then, wash my back side.” The Dominar says. And so his mate, John Cricton does so…
Either that, or you edit the ending slightly to 4.22. Chiana says the part about proposals, and ther series ends with a close-up of D’argo, screaming. Screen fades to black to it saying ‘TO BE CONTINUED…’
“Either that, or you edit the ending slightly to 4.22. Chiana says the part about proposals, and ther series ends with a close-up of D’argo, screaming. Screen fades to black to it saying ‘TO BE CONTINUED…'”
Oh, that just brings back memories of D’argo, in the convertible, propositioning John…
“Oh, and Chiana. She wants to watch!”
As far as cliffhanger endings go, I didn’t think this one was bad really. It is open-ended enough to continue in some form if they can get it together and yet it did give us some closure if nothing else ever comes from it. I thought that the “To Be Continued” tag on was unnecessay though and misleading to casual viewers who may not realize that the show is cancelled. I could see people six months from now checking Sci-Fi channel for the new season and wondering what the heck happened to it.
ARGH!
My cable was messed up so I missed it. Any idea when/if Sci Fi plans a rebroadcast?

In case anyone here hasn’t heard, we’re NOT giving up! http://www.savefarscape.com
The midnight airings of Farscape on SciFi may not include the fourth season. SciFi’s schedule doesn’t go that far into the future.
SciFi does have repeats of Season Four of Farscape from the start scheduled for 5 AM ET/PT saturday mornings starting on April 5th.
A definite sign that they want to burn off the episodes. You would think that any other time slot would get better ratings than 5 AM for current season repeats.
Lee
For any folks who loved Farscape and haven’t already heard, there’s a great Web site for the Save Farscape campaign at http://www.watchfarscape.com. It’s a better-organized and more sensible effort than most “save our show” campaigns, with some really interesting ideas percolating. If you want more Farscape, it can’t hurt to visit the site.
Anthony Simcoe gave fans a mesg on his personal site, and has asked folks to paste it to sites. Here it is:

Hi everyone!
I stopped posting here a while ago after someone was coming on to the site and pretending to be me but I couldn’t resisit delurking and saying hi to everyone.
Thank you all so much for everything – kind words, support etc. It means a great deal to me. I’ve made some great friends along the way with Farscape and I am a changed man for being in touch with my co-wokers and the fans – very humbling.
As far as Farscape goes it is a treasured memory in the past now – I’ve moved on to other shows, as have most of the rest of the cast.
I’m positive that we would all come back to do other Farscape projects in the future, and even though we have our fingers crossed it looks very unlikely from where I’m sitting at the moment.
To all the fans who tried to get us back on the air – thank you – you’ve achieved something great – a comuunity -keep in touch with each other, meet at copns etc. Don’t throw away this wonderful scaper world we’ve created together.
As far as cons go I will be trying to schedule some in around my new job (don’t ask I can’t say what it is)I’m in London this week for what may well be my only English con ever – so please drop by to Starfury and say hello UK scapers.
Have been writing so many new songs for the band – Number 96 – and as soon as Wayne gets his but back to Oz we’ll start playing live here in Sydney.
A special cheerio to Dwal, Jane, Lhaal, Craislover and Jason H. Love you guys!!!!
Thanks again – see you at Starfury –
Cheers!!!
Anth
p.s. could someone please cut and paste this meesage to other scaper sites for me – I would like my thanks to be as widespread as possible.
Personally, I thought the ending was frelling brilliant, perfectly in keeping with the tone of the show. The seemingly meaningless death of the two young lovers, the screaming D’argo, the mournful camera pan over the remains of John and Aeryn… Then a glimmer of hope. Besides, it IS just like the bášŧárdš to keep us hanging like that, for an undetermined period of time. I was laughing and cursing them at the same time.
If the true measure of any production is the amount of emotion it elicits in its audience, then the last two minutes of the Farscape closer are two of the best minutes of television ever. Frelling brilliant…
