COVER FALLEN ANGEL #1

Okay…if I did this right, then you should be seeing the Mike Kaluta painting for the first issue of “The Fallen Angel.” It’s slightly darker than the actual printed version will be, but it gives you an idea.

  1. Impressive. I mostly have your Trek fiction; the only comics I’ve even read of yours are an old issue of Spyboy (if that’s even the right title) and the NF book. But I might pick this up just on the strength of that cover.

  2. If you ask me, this sorta looks like a rip-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! What?! This isn’t the John Byrne board where people can post ridiculous and idiotic thoughts about stuff they’ve never actually seen or don’t have a clue about? Ah, um….

Seriously, the image looks great and I look forward in giving the first few issues a chance.

  3. Looks awesome but…what is it about? Can we get a writing preview also?<<

There’s an article about it in the current Comic Shop News, and it’s reprinted over on Newsarama, so you can check there for a more detailed description.

  4. Note that you need to enter the whole URL above; the UBB software didn’t recognize the f=2;t=000137 as being part of the URL, so clicking on the link above won’t get you to the story.

  5. Having just read the preview, I’d have to say that it’s a must-buy for me, and would be even without Kaluta’s lush cover.

  6. The first comment above by J. Koretz got me thinking. How many PAD followers read only his Star Trek books or other fiction but not comic books. And how many read only his comics work but not his novels? Just wondering.

BTW, the cover looks fantastic and I’m looking forward to the series.

The only novels I’ve read by PAD are his two Imzadi books, and I wouldn’t have even known about those had a friend not given me the first one as a going away present 9 years ago. So that makes me pretty much a comic guy. But I do plan to try out his non-Trek works soon.

  8. I love kaluta’s artwork. Too bad I just quit reading comics. But I thought you were one of the best in the biz Peter, and I shall check out this blog regularly.

  9. The black and white art by David Lopez looks nice. I hope it reproduces well in color. Since it’s supposed to premiere shortly after Supergirl ends, I take it that means it comes out no later than three months from now?

I can’t wait. Good luck, Peter.

  10. Well…this is my first time here!Hello everybody!I’m Italian (Naples) and I enjoyed art by Lopez.I guess the last version would be wonderful b/w,too.Anyways the cover – sorry – doesn’t impress me much. But the comic…well we’re talking about the Master!I love his style so…I’m going to get Fallen Angel in American (I don’t know if it will be published in Italian). One more thing about PAD’s works:I started from X-Factor (no words…;-) then Captain Marvel and, anyways, comics.Never read a novel by PAD.I don’t even know if somebody publishes some of them here.Peter, may you help me?

  11. While I’m lookin’ forward to this new work of yours, Peter, I think you should give a whack at writing a STAR WARS novel. Maybe Katherine can hook you up?

  12. This is so embarrassing. I meant to write “Kathleen,” not “Katherine.” That’s what I get for typing faster than my mind can keep up with.

  13. Nice cover.

Although I tend to be of the TPB-waitin’ variety, I may very well check out Fallen Angel, at least until I see how likely collections look:)

As for the secondary topic, I lean heavily towards Peter’s comics work. I’ve only read a few novels, Howling Mad, the Hulk one and the first Psiman book.

I enjoyed the first two quite a bit (and I don’t think I was quite the target audience for the last one).

I haven’t read any of the Trek novels mostly because I’ve never been much of a Trek fan. I did LOVE DS9, but thought TNG was fair overall and the others have sucked (i’m know that for it’s time TOS was something revolutionary, but it really doesn’t age well- and I do admit to not having seen Enterprise)

  14. Cool cover. I already plan to pick this up, but now I know I’ll have at least one pretty picture to look at.

Don’t sweat it. Minor footnote: The first time PAD mentioned Kathleen in But I Digress (talking about her puppets) he referred to her as Katherine. (Blame the copy editor!)

  16. Having read the book described as somewhere between Vertigo and the DCU, I have to ask: That’s not John Constantine sitting on the floor, is it? The coat and hair seem to be the right color but I can’t tell if it is an overcoat.

  17. *long, low whistle*

Very nice! Based on the review I read of it, sounds like it should be quite an interesting series. Looking forward to it PAD.

  18. WOW!

Peter, a couple of weeks ago, I suggested you think about getting out of the comics biz after going through all the Marvel hëll.

Boy, I’m glad you didn’t listen to me. I’m not reading any of the preview stuff for this- I’m just buying it and reading it on its own. It looks fantastic.

And that is one BEAUTIFUL cover. Some of the best work I’ve ever seen from Kaluta. Wow. Really eye-popping stuff.

  19. Raise your hand if you’d be shocked to find out that a) the Fallen Angel was Linda minus the Supergirl identity and exploring the darker side of her personality taht was established earlier in the Supergirl series and b) if the Louisiana town had a chaos stream running under it. If this turns out to be the case then hopefully Buzz will be skulking around somewhere, too.

  20. does anybody know the URL for those stupid “Buffy comments” John Byrne made…some things just got to be seen (or read) to believe…

  21. “Fallen Angel” sounds interesting! Howzabout everyone who was complaining about Young Justice and Supergirl being cancelled, give this series a try and show some support for PAD.

You can read those loon’s comments at the John Byrne Fan Site message board:

    http://www.acc.umu.se/~alpha/byrne/cgi-bin/board/post.html

The posts start on Feb. 5th — started under the heading of “Buffy is getting her own DC series by PAD. yay.” and have mutated from there. Also some good responses from PAD there too.

Be warned, I find many of the posters there to be brown nosin’ Byrne ášš kìššërš (Byrne Zombies!).

Since the Newsarama preview suggests that the setting of FALLEN ANGEL will fall outside of the regular DCU, I figure that a) no characters from SUPERGIRL will likely appear, in order to keep the Superman office FAR FAR AWAY from this series and b) though the names have changed, the underlying thematic environment appears to be surviving relatively intact.

Can’t wait for the series premiere in July.

  24. Well, although it is a darn shame to see Supergirl and YJ going, and although I already miss my monthly dose of PAD-hilarity (seems as if only Souldsearchers is left as a book with a lear focus on humour now that YJ is gone and Captain Marvel has changed direction…), the new series sounds — and from the sneak peak of the cover also looks — like Peter has just re-inveted himself once again, returning with a darker, more adult tone of writing that was always there in his writing, yet — at DC — not always as much in the forefront. This could be good.

    Here’s hoping this isn’t the

  25. Yossi, if any Israelis are in this website and can read your post, then they probably don’t need a Hebrew translation after all! 🙂

Looks good, though. I’ll be picking up this Buffy (or is it Angel?) rip-off.

  26. I’ll be adding this to the pull list. Sounds intriguing and Peter does handle dark very well.

BTW…went over to the Byrne board to see what the fuss is about. Mercy. Let’s hope they all stay on that one forum and leave the rest of the Internet a much happier place.

  27. I read Millar’s column. He’s more or less reiterating what I said in “But I Digress” a few weeks ago. You remember: The “Peter’s wearing out his welcome” column.

Believe me, when I embarked on my career in comics, don’t think for an instant I wasn’t watching ten, fifteen, twenty years down the line. In the past month, three pros have contacted me about wanting to break into novels. I’m not planning to leave comics, but I have spent my career preparing for a time when comics would likely leave me.

  28. Michael,

I was using the translation as a cheap ploy to have Israelis from here come to my site. The premise was that if there are additional Israelis lurking here then they are serious about comics and I would like to add them to my web-community.

Since my site does not compete with PAD’s in any way shape or form I felt I could do this little publicity stunt.

I also wanted to show PAD that there is a following of his work here in the holy land.

  29. Scavenger-

Head over to Comicbookresources.com. Millar has a weekly column. It was pretty interesting to read.
