"Fallen Angel" to continue

I've been speaking with Chris Ryall (who, by the way, just became a dad to a brand new daughter, Lucy, so congrats there) and IDW is so pleased with the numbers on "Fallen Angel" (not to mention the critical reception) that the series will definitely continue past issue #5 on a monthly basis. So huzzahs all around.

3 cheers for PAD! (and another 3 for fine storytelling!)

This is excellent news!!

Posted by: Bobb at January 4, 2006 03:04 PM

sigh....I'll go make mor space on my shelf, then. Great news, PAD. I wasn't sure the tone of the book would carry through with the new art, but I was wrong. It's still the same FA that got me back buying a comic every month. And despite 20 some years having passed (for some) it feels like we've not missed much.

On the other hand, it feels slightly like a cheat. Like the kids aged and grew up, but no one else did. Like some sit-coms or afternoon soaps do.

Which, come to think of it, ain't all bad, in a lot of cases.

And the new year got off to a much better start with this announcement.

Posted by: Kevin T. Brown at January 4, 2006 03:17 PM

Now it truly is a happy new year!

Congrats, PAD!

Great news! Congratulations!

Good news for PAD, bad news for my wallet.

Posted by: Baerbel Haddrell at January 4, 2006 04:43 PM

Congratulations! That is wonderful news.

Hopefully my comic shop here in Britain will get issue 1 soon. They assured me that Fallen Angel is on my list and that I will get it when it comes in. I am very much looking forward to that and hope it won`t be much longer.

Great news, PAD! I really enjoyed the first issue. Fantastic story, beautiful artwork, and IDW sure puts together a slick package, don't they?

Posted by: John C. Kirk at January 4, 2006 05:44 PM

From Baerbel:

Hopefully my comic shop here in Britain will get issue 1 soon. They assured me that Fallen Angel is on my list and that I will get it when it comes in. I am very much looking forward to that and hope it won`t be much longer.

I had a similar reply from my comic shop: "Some comics do get delayed distribution to the UK around Christmas time, and this year is by no means an exception. I expect that we'll see a
bumper week of titles from the smaller publishers this week. I can't yet say whether Fallen Angel is in there but I can confirm that it's on your list."

Anyway, I'm looking forward to #1, and I'm glad that the series will be continuing.

By the way, is it just me, or has something really weird happened to the front page of the blog? I see a white box in the top left corner with the start of the latest entry, and then the menu (normally in a strip down the right hand side) taking up the rest of the page. The same thing happens in IE and Firefox.

Posted by: Baerbel Haddrell at January 4, 2006 05:48 PM

No, I have the same problem. What I did is clicking on the latest entries in the menu. At least when I do that I can read the page and post.

Posted by: Greg at January 4, 2006 06:49 PM

Wait, where was the cheat again? Lee looks pretty aged when she's in daylight. I mean, she's still a MILF and all, but you know.

Posted by: Beth at January 4, 2006 06:53 PM

That's great, Pete. I'm really happy for you. Love to the fam!

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Tim Lynch at January 4, 2006 07:49 PM

Fan-flippin-tastic.

I'll try to post something more about the new issue 1 at some point, but bottom line: liked it lots, both the writing and the art. Lisa hasn't read the first series (yet) owing to lack of time, but I'm considering handing this to her anyway and saying "you'll figure it out as you go without much of a problem -- and you want to read this soon."

Now that *IS* great news.

Congrats to you PAD! And congrats to us fans of Lee for being so noisy and faithful!!

i'm with you on this and xfactor until i move to england for grad school next year!

Posted by: Markisan at January 4, 2006 10:14 PM

Great news, Peter. Can you share the official sales numbers with us and how they compare to #1 issues of other IDW series? I'd be very surprised if Fallen Angel wasn't one of the best selling IDW books out of the gate.

Posted by: KET at January 4, 2006 10:40 PM

Hooray! Glad to hear that IDW is extending the love for this series. I know that I'll keep on buying it for as long as new issues are being published.

Best news I've heard all week! Congrats!

Posted by: jonwes at January 5, 2006 02:21 AM

Yay! Wow, the numbers must have been very good for them to give such a strong commitment so early. I'm so happy! First Fallen Angel and now Futurama might be coming back to. Take that cruel world!

Brian Woods - "i'm with you on this and xfactor until i move to england for grad school next year!"

Hey, Brian, we do have comic shops in England too, y'know.

Congratulations, excellent news.

So are we looking at issue #6, or another issue #1?

Posted by: joeyfixit at January 5, 2006 11:47 AM

I thought the first ish of Fallen Angel was real solid, story and art-wise, and I look forward to an ongoing. One thing bothers me, though. This is just personal preference, I guess, but I really liked the work of David Lopez and am sad to see him go.
The paintings are certainly good art, but it's just not the same. Was there a reason Lopez couldn't continue(PAD)? Was it an IDW decision or your decision or a DC/contract conflict? Or was it his decision? Any chance of him coming back to the book in the future?

X-Factor's real good, by the way. I like it better than Madrox. Which I liked.

Posted by: Rob Staeger at January 5, 2006 12:13 PM

Excellent news! Congrats!

"Was there a reason Lopez couldn't continue(PAD)? Was it an IDW decision or your decision or a DC/contract conflict? Or was it his decision?"

It was entirely his decision. Still, it doesn't rule out his coming back for a visit. For instance, we'll probably give J.K. a one month break with issue #6 so he can go right to issue #7 and get ahead. I'm personally hoping Dave agrees to guest-pencil #6.

Woo-hoo! "Fallen Angel" is continuing. I guess "X-Factor" is doing well. "Buckaroo Banzai" will be on the stands this year. Looks like a "Highlander" title is finally on the way. Guess I'll have to keep buying comics a little while longer.

Excellent news. And great timing! I just got a coworker hooked. One more reader... :)

On Newsarama's list of Shipping Changes:

FALLEN ANGEL IDW #2 (OF 5) 1/25/2006 - UNSCHEDULED

:(

What's up with that?

Posted by: jonwes at January 16, 2006 04:26 PM

Ohhhh noooo! I hope that doesn't mean anything.

BTW - Newsarama posted the top 300 comics for December.

151 - Fallen Angel - 12,200

Thats amazing! Right above it on the charts was an issue of X-men: Deadly Genesis! If it can get near the numbers of a heavily hyped X-men mini-series... I think thats incredibly impressive.

Posted by: Peter David at January 16, 2006 06:09 PM

"What's up with that" is indeed the right question to asked. I asked Chris Ryall and we're both asking Matt Brady where the info came from, 'cause the book's done. I got advance copies a week ago. According to Chris, it's confirmed with Diamond for its 1/25 street date. So we're left scratching our heads.
