Fallen Angel #1 alternate cover

In addition to the awesome art of J.K. Woodward, the first issue of "Fallen Angel" from IDW will feature an alternate cover from original series artist David Lopez. Check it out.

Her cloak looks kind of "Spawn-y" to me....

I expect PAD's being influnced by the great Todd-meister.

*ahem*

I'll miss Lopez' work on the book, but I'm willing to give the new guy a go. Hopefully I'll be able to find this version, as maybe it'll help ease the transition from the old to the new.

when does the first issue come out?

That is a great cover and as much as I like the new guy's art I'm still going to miss David L's.

Any hint if IDW will solicit the covers individually or will it be the standard split ratio?
That's been the thing I've most disliked about IDW's multiple covers is the even ratio based on orders. With the "Spike" one-shot, my LCS only ordered 2 copies, and therefore received one of each cover (the photo cover and the art cover); since I was there when the books were being pulled, I was able to pick the cover I wanted. I dread to think what might have happened if my order had been the only one, or I hadn't been there when the books were being pulled (I really preferred the photo cover over the art cover--the opposite of how I selected the "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" titles from Dark Horse; Dark Horse released art covers only for the Direct Market, while photo covers were available to the Newsstand and Direct Markets). I really wish all companies would follow Dark Horse's and Avatar Press's marketing and make alternate covers available for order separately (of course, it's not really as problematic with DC since the books that come with alt covers are generally well-ordered titles anyway--you don't typically see alt covers for books like "Catwoman" or "Green Arrow"), though nothing's as bad as Marvel's drastic 1 alternate cover for every 10 or 15 or 20 copies ordered.
As I don't expect my LCS to order any more on the IDW series than it did the DC series, I guess I'll take whichever cover comes in (if the ratio is the standard 50/50 split) though I'm a bit more impressed with the art I've seen from Woodward.

Are ya kiddin'? The artist looks to have some concept of style and the laws of physics. ;)

Looks incredible!! That cover should attract people and if a retailor takes the time to place it strategically, it should sell well on the cover alone.

Takes the time to place it? Man, I'll be happy if retailers simply take the time to order it at all. The fact that any number of retailers didn't carry store copies of the first series was one of the biggest stumbling blocks we had to face.

I knew as soon as I typed it that you'd reply with something along these lines, hense my wording. Sadly, many good books don't last due to the Spidey/X-Men/Batman only mindset of sellers. Good luck with this.

What kind of stories can we expect in the continuing adventures of Fallen angel? Does it continue directly from the last series?

Posted by: Dru at September 7, 2005 06:53 PM

I've been itching to try this book, but my local store never had it (as described by Peter), and by the time I figured out the oh-so-difficult concept of asking the owner to order it, I was some 17ish issues behind.

That being said, if I come in on #1 from IDW, how lost can I expect (or not expect) to be?

Will IDW release a poster of the cover for retailers to hang in their windows? If they do, I'm bribing my dealer with beaucoups ducats for a copy.

Issue #1 is designed to be a jumping on point. If you are a long-time reader of "Fallen Angel," you will be surprised at developments since we pick up twenty year after the previous series. If you're new to the series, everything is explained clearly enough that you will have no trouble following.

Twenty years?? Man, now I can't wait for this first issue! When is it coming out?

20 years???

Don't tell me Lee is 46 and has to wear glasses full time now. :)

It comes out in December, I believe. At least that's what the ad for Fallen Angel said in the Spike one-shot.

If twenty years is elapsing between this series and the DC one, I'm curious if Dolph will still be alive. He wasn't exactly young in the previous series.

Cool cover. I liked Lopez's work on the series. I'll probably pick this version up, if I have the choice. And - TWENTY years?! Hm ....

Posted by: John C. Kirk at September 8, 2005 07:01 PM

Regarding the 20 years thing, I suspect this may be slight misdirection. Technically, "Rising Stars" kicked off when there was only one Special left, and the rest of the series was told in flashback, but the future segment didn't last for long.

My store did the same thing, Peter. The only store copies he had were when punters dropped them from their pull-lists. So I could only buy issues 20 and 21, whilst a trade and ebay hunting has left without issues 7-13. Dammit.

I live in Barcelona and is not easy to find some comics. Is like Fred Chamberlain said above: seems like only Spidey/X-Men/Batman is worth the risk of ordering.

Peter, will IDW edit the trade paperback for sure? If i buy the monthly comic i may miss some because of the horrible service we have here. And what would you do with the fourteen numbers DC hasn't edited in TP format? Will you edit them when you regain the rigth to do so? I'm dying to read the entire first run of the series.

By the way, am i the only one who's mad at DC for cutting Supergirl just when you had a VERY good penciler and a killing story? And that new Supergirl... Màre de Dèu quin truny! (that's catalan, my language, and means: what a piece of s...!!).

Oh! And this first seven pages of the Angel... i simply love them. Very different from Lopez, a more nightmarish style. Will you write in a different way too? Without restraints i mean. Hope this can be on a monthly basis.

Anyone who's been through what Dolph has and is still as hale and hearty at 105 as he was in the DC series (assuming it was set contemporaneusly) will probably be fine at 125, too...

Hello everybody,
I'm an avid Fallen Angel fan, and I'm trying to get my hands on an original art piece by David Lopez. Does anybody know his e-mail adress, or his art dealer?
That would help me out tremendously, thanks so much!
