It's scary, yet belivable. This big question is... who's Batman?

MRG

Posted by: Justin Fairfax at June 15, 2004 02:19 AM

Who's Batman? Could it be...The Truth???

Posted by: Micko at June 15, 2004 02:44 AM

That's unfair to the Batman rogues. In the end they are lovely people and at least they only comitted villanies in the comics, not in the real world.

Can I be Batman?

Posted by: Richard Zeunges at June 15, 2004 03:30 AM

It's simple, McCain would be batman, and Kerry would be robin, due to their respective physiques.

Posted by: Danny B at June 15, 2004 03:33 AM

that's....brilliant!

so who's commissioner Gordon then? Bush Sr.'s got the physique....

Posted by: Yugami at June 15, 2004 03:34 AM

That is simply the greatest thing I have ever seen.

Posted by: Richard Zeunges at June 15, 2004 03:39 AM

Ronald Reagen would be Gordon, He deals with controversy and possible scandal (Batman), yet everybody loves him!

Posted by: Richard Zeunges at June 15, 2004 03:46 AM

Bush Sr. would be Chief O'Hara, he gets the coffee for Commissioner Gordon, and speaks with the funny accent.

Posted by: Jerome Maida at June 15, 2004 03:56 AM

Hey,
Even though I'm a Republican, ANY opportunity I get to see Condoleeza Rice in a leather catsuit is A-OK by me!
Meow!
OK! I'm going to try and settle down now, but it'll be really....difficult.
So who else was in the picture? I forget:)

For me an example of "suspension of disbelief". Thanks for sharing.

I have dibs on Robin... :p

Posted by: Adam-Troy Castro at June 15, 2004 09:05 AM

Aaron McGruder did this gag in BOONDOCKS some time ago (with Bush as the Joker and Cheney as Luthor), but it's a pleasure to see it so well executed...

I definatly like this picture and any others if you could find them.

Brilliant parody! ROFL! Anybody know where one can download this?

Posted by: John at June 15, 2004 09:36 AM

Where to download? Click on the picture with your mouse, and Save As...

This is embarrassing, but my facial recognition skills aren't great. I assumed it was Rice, can someone help me with the other three?

Posted by: John at June 15, 2004 10:36 AM

The Boondocks referenced above:

http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=16317

Posted by: skii at June 15, 2004 11:09 AM

Catwoman = Rice
Joker = Bush W
Riddler = Rumsfeld
No idea bout the other one, rather clever though.

Posted by: Evan at June 15, 2004 11:09 AM

Where's Karl Rove?

Could he be Mr. Freeze?

Posted by: Simon DelMonte at June 15, 2004 11:15 AM

Penguin seems to be Cheney.

But what do we do with Ashcroft? (Yes, a loaded question.)

Posted by: RJM at June 15, 2004 11:39 AM

Colin Powell = King Tut
Ashcroft = Bookworm (since he'll be burning library books)

Posted by: catullus at June 15, 2004 11:45 AM

Egghead = Paul Wolfowitz ?

Posted by: Robert Jung at June 15, 2004 11:54 AM

I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be Ashcroft as the Riddler, though it's not often you see Ashcroft with a manic grin like that (at least, not out in public).

Posted by: eclark1849 at June 15, 2004 11:58 AM

God, that's funny! and Condoleeza makes a great Catwoman.

Did you know that John Kerry's picture is on the twenty dollar bill?

Posted by: Tim Lynch at June 15, 2004 11:59 AM

I'm glad others are mentioning the Boondocks strip from several months back -- the Bush/Cheney as Joker/Luthor image was one of the few pieces of artwork Aaron McGruder's done that's simply and utterly brilliant.

Of course, so is this one. :-) I still think Cheney works better as Luthor than as Penguin, but maybe Karl Rove gets the Luthor role. If we're restricting this to characters from the '60s TV series, then I think I'd shift Rove over into Egghead.

(And as much as I prefer Julie Newmar's Catwoman to Eartha Kitt, I'm glad whoever made this went with the Kitt one. Using the Newmar Catwoman would leave you with ... what, Laura Bush in the outfit? The mind doth reel.)

No one, of course, gets to be whoever the villain was Liberace played, since that would be perceived as too close to supporting gay marriage. :-)

Posted by: Tim Lynch at June 15, 2004 12:00 PM

Robert,

Look again. The Riddler as pictured is Rumsfeld, not Ashcroft.

TWL

Posted by: Joe at June 15, 2004 12:34 PM

This is great. I thought Ashcroft would make a great two-face! Karen Hughes as Poison Ivy, but wearing LOTS OF VINES.
The only way these crooks are getting away with so much crime is because Batman and Robin left town. Yes, Clinton and Gore. The villians may have gotten the best of Robin, but that bunch of losers couldn't beat Clinton!

Posted by: EClark1849 at June 15, 2004 01:57 PM

Actually, I think Ted Kennedy would make a great King Tut and John Kerry as the Scarecrow!

Yeah, I know this is a pro liberal gang bang, but what's good for the goose is sauce for the gander. Besides I don't like ANY politician that much.

That makes Hillary, as Marsha, the Queen of Diamonds, AlGore is Bane, and Joe Lieberman is Clayface. Nancy Pelosi would be the old witch that Marsha had with her.

hehehehe

John McCain would be Two Face.

Posted by: eclark1849 at June 15, 2004 02:05 PM

That's unfair to the Batman rogues. In the end they are lovely people and at least they only comitted villanies in the comics, not in the real world.

Can I be Batman?

You know, in the comics, Batman is an insane, obsessive-compulsive paranoid sociopath who likes to manipulate his friends and intimidate people and who leans towards violence as a way of settling conflicts, while stating that he doesn't like guns.

Yeah, you could TOTALLY be Batman!

8^)

Posted by: filkertom at June 15, 2004 02:08 PM

That is frickin' brilliant. I nominate Tom Daschle for Commissioner Gordon, Ted Kennedy for Chief O'Hara, of course John Kerry for Batman, and John Edwards for Robin (I prefer Wesley Clark, but I'd rather not see his knees if it can at all be helped).

Can't stop myself -- gotta play this game. Howzabout Rush as King Tut, either Wolfowitz or Rove as Egghead, either Rove or Wolfowitz as Colonel Gumm (played by Roger C. Carmel in the Green Hornet crossover), and Ann Coulter as the Siren (originally Joan Collins). But the real coup de grace would be... Ralph Nader as the Bookworm! (I like RJM's suggestion of Ashcroft, but I'd cast him as Louis the Lilac [the one Milton Berle played].)

TWL -- absolutely right about the Liberace villain. That's why we have Andrew Sullivan. ;)

Posted by: Tim Lynch at June 15, 2004 02:16 PM

EClark,

Ted Kennedy's not a bad King Tut, but in terms of speech patterns and all I think he fits better with Art Carney's Archer. You even get the whole Robin Hood "steals from the rich" angle if you'd like to see taxation that way.

Filkertom -- a great list. We need Bill Frist in there somewhere, though. (Catwoman's taken, alas...)

TW (Barbara Bush IS Ma Parker!) L

Posted by: filkertom at June 15, 2004 02:48 PM

Tim -- Oh, in my head Frist, Hastert, and even Colin Powell (and especially Henry Hyde) are just buffed-up henchmen. (Did you ever see the World's Finest maxiseries, the one with the lame art, that had The Henchmen, the gang of ex-flunkies for The Joker, The Riddler, etc., trying to make it on their own? They'd fit right in.)

Rick Santorum and Tom DeLay, on the other hand, are between the two of them The Ventriloquist and Scarface....

Posted by: Rich Rivera Perez at June 15, 2004 04:40 PM

Wow...that's a pretty good photo there. Never thought about the administration as a rogue of Batman's enemys, but, that's funny.

Posted by: Deano at June 15, 2004 05:19 PM

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!That is so frickin awesome .Quick somebody call the writers for BATMAN BEGINS we are going a whole new direction
with the movie.oh by the way the fact that i think Condy Rice is kinda sexy in a cat suit isnt gonna get me "detained" is it??

Posted by: RJM at June 15, 2004 05:26 PM

How about O'Rielly as the Liberace villain.
with his "spin zone", I think he'd fit it perfectly! ;)

Posted by: Tim Lynch at June 15, 2004 05:38 PM

RJM,

Nah, not Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly's more of a Louie the Lilac kind of guy.

I was having trouble coming up with someone who'd map well to Chandell (the villain Liberace played, thank you IMDB), but it just came to me:

Sen. Rick Santorum, on in 5...

TWL

Posted by: Luigi Novi at June 15, 2004 05:44 PM

Richard Zeunges: It's simple, McCain would be batman, and Kerry would be robin, due to their respective physiques.
Luigi Novi: If physique is the criteria, then wouldn’t Dennis Kucinich be a better Robin? :-)

And if apparent intelligence would be the criteria—and this is the TV characters we’re talking about—then wouldn’t Dan Quayle be a good choice?

Then again both he and Bush would be great as the Riddler. They all say arcane things using tortured or mutilated language that no one can understand. :-)

Jerome Maida: Even though I'm a Republican, ANY opportunity I get to see Condoleeza Rice in a leather catsuit is A-OK by me!
Luigi Novi: What do you mean “even though”? Condoleeza rice is part of the current Republican administration, isn’t she?

Tim Lynch: No one, of course, gets to be whoever the villain was Liberace played…
Luigi Novi: Chandell.

Posted by: Deano at June 15, 2004 06:03 PM

Frightening thought, considering the release of Fahrenheit 911 does that mean Micheal Moore is Batman?!?!?!?!?!?!And we thought Kilmer and Clooney were bad casting:)

Posted by: CSO at June 15, 2004 06:25 PM

"This Modern World" by Tom Tommorow
has been casting Cheney as the Penguin for at least two years now... i think as far back as 2000 but i'm not sure...
http://www.thismodernworld.com/weblog/archive/2002_03_17_bloggera.html
and that's rummsfeild there as the Riddler... and Kucinich would be a great choice for Robin...

OK i was wrong
Cheney didn't appear as the Penguin until Dec. 2002... http://www.salon.com/comics/tomo/2002/12/16/tomo/index.html
still the first time that i've seen him portrayed as the penguin...

But isn't that a photo from the original Batman movie with "altered" heads?
If so, then that would make Catwoman('s body) Lee Meriweather, not Newmar or Kitt.
Otherwise: Meeoow! and LOL too.

And who could forget this peerless, if paraphrased, exchange ?

SCENE INTRO

Meanwhile, in Commissioner Gordon's office...

- What could four such evil vbeings be gathered together for ?

- Holy Coup d'etat - perhaps they mean to rule the city ?

- any one of them would aim at that, Robin - but four I fear would play for far higher stakes.

- Begorrah ! D'ye mean they intend to seize the state, Batman ?

- any two would do so, Chief O'Hara

- Great Scot !!! You don't mean they plan to rule the country, Caped Crusader ?

- Any three and I would agree, Commissioner. No. Gentlemen. I fear we underestimate the depth of villiany with which we are faced. Four such evil miscreants can be aiming at nothing less than. Total ! World !! Domination !!!

Posted by: louiecat at June 16, 2004 05:27 AM

Posted by: Jerome Maida at June 16, 2004 06:40 AM

Luigi,
The reason I said "even though" was because I just wanted to point out I have a sense of humor, which seems to be lacking in some, as evidenced by some of the posts.
And Condi IS pretty damn attractive, I must say:)

Considering Theresa Kerry is the one paying for Stately Kerry Manor, as well as the Kerrymobile, wouldn't she get to be Batman?(which I guess makes John Kerry Aunt Harriet, which is a frightening image)

Posted by: filkertom at June 16, 2004 09:18 AM

BJM -- Didja hear about this exchange on CBS News this morning (Wednesday), from a profile of Teresa Heinz Kerry (I cribbed this from commenter Amanda at Atrios):

Reporter: You don't hear very many 65-year-old women say they're sexy.

THK: (pauses, maintains polite smile) How many have you asked?

But please don't make me think of John Kerry in a flower-patterned house dress. Brrr.

Back at the Batcave

- Let's see - he's robbed Joe's Jolly Jape Shop, Olivers Original Origami Shop, Kevin's Kool Klubber's Shop, Eveleyn's Empire of Ermine - I'd suspect he's trying to spell something out, boy wonder...

Except that he then went on to heist Zebedees Zirconium Zhop, Terrys Tank and Truck Store and Percy's Palace of Porn.

- Holy dyslexia, Batman !!! Where will he strike next ?

- Who knows ? Or ! Dares !! To!!! Dream !!!

But later, at Xaviers Xylophone Xop ( yeah, I know I'm reaching - but you try coming up with a third word beginning with X that makes sense )

- Don't move, Joker - or, as you would have it, Jokeztpx ( hmm, maybe if I make him say it backwards...)

- Cursoids - the dynamic duopoly !!! Stand back, caped crusader or be destroyminated by my cunningly concealified lazer weapon type thingy.

- You can't get away, you foul fiend.

- On the contrarymo, Batman, if you attempt to preventalise me from escapologising I shall give my henchmen instructions to kill Michael Moore !!! And don't think I won't, by golly...I'm so riled I could just press this buttonoid and abracadabralocious, more tax cuts for the rich !!!

- Holy bribery - you wouldn't dare !!! Quickly, Batman - do something !!!

- Let's not be hasty here, Di- er, Robin -How much of a tax cut for the rich are we talking here, Joker ?

- Well, I'm not saying that I haven't budgeted, I know I have a budget because it's got numbers in it.

- Hmmmm...makes enough sense to get you elected.

- Don't you mean re-elected Batman ?

- Nope

Posted by: Tim Lynch at June 16, 2004 01:06 PM

(which I guess makes John Kerry Aunt Harriet, which is a frightening image)

Or Alfred. Given how often Kerry gets compared to another TV butler from that era, Alfred's perhaps not much of a stretch.

Such A Parcel Of Rogues In A Nation
By Robert Burns, 1791

"Parcel o'Rogues refers to the Act of Union in 1707, when Scotland finally gave up her independence and submitted to England - sold out by her own nobles, despite protests and riots in the streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh.. This was the "parcel o'rogues" to which Burns referred - using the words of a grizzled old Scottish patriot. To me, however, the song is not about defeat - it ends on a defiant note: "But pith an' power, 'til my last hour, I'll mak' this declaration. We are bought and sold for English gold - such a parcel o'rogues in a nation!" The Scottish government may have submitted - the Scots...never!"
