"Dead of Knight...?"

Here's a little challenge.

The sequel to "Knight Life" is tentatively titled "Dead of Knight." It takes place some years after "Knight Life," focusing on the presidency of King Arthur, how the threat of terrorists impacts upon it, and--just to keep it real--a search for the Holy Grail and a head-to-head conflict with an individual even more ancient than Arthur.

Now...my noble editor, Ginjer Buchanan, isn't blown away by the title. She says it sounds like a vampire novel. So...any suggestions? Ideally with the word "Knight" in it?

Nope, that's taken......

One Knight Only?
Good Knight, Sweet Prince?
Knight After Knight?
Knight at the Opera?

and maybe one serious-type one: if Arthur is President, then the U.S. is the Knight Realm.

Geez, Peter, this is tougher than it sounds!

Just my two cents... since it's about the presidency, here's some ideas on how it could play on that in the
TITLE:

"One Knight in Washington" (...may be inaccurate if we still have two Knights in the story.)

"Washington Knights" (...sounds too much like a basketball team.)

"Arthur Goes to the White House?" No? How about "Arthur Goes to the Knight House?"

(Let 'em get a vampire reference outta THAT one.)

"Election Knight."

"Terror by Knight."

"The Knight House."

"A Knight in America."

"Knight Life II: This Time, It's Personal."

That's my best shot. At the moment.

Oddly enough, I thought last night it'd be funny if you wrote a short story called "Knight at the Roxbury."

"Knight Rider," "Knight Light," and "One Knight Stand" are the only pun I could think of not already listed below.

"The Knight that would be President"--not a pun, but still has the word "knight" in there.

"Dead of Knight" seems to be eminently appropriate considering the opposite of death--life--was in the first title.

Otherwise, if "knight" need not be in the title, "Resident Medieval" (a la the video game), "Medieval on Your Ass," or "Low, High, and Medieval."

Since Arthur is a king, maybe "The Knight it Reigned" or "Pain and Sovereign."

--Erhan Kartal

P.S. Error message or not, I'm clicking "Post This Comment" once.

Posted by: Erhan Kartal at June 20, 2002 08:14 PM

"Knight Vision," "Hard Knight's Reign," and "Access De-Knight" just came to me.

If Arthur's nemesis is from the time of Jesus (and even if not, the Holy Grail certainly is), "Apostolic Now" works well as a pun and as an accurate story title.

Lots of good suggestions already, and more than a few gleefully bad puns as well. How about...

A Knight in the Lincoln Bedroom
A Knight in the Oval Office

Both a bit long for a novel title, I know, but I hope they bear considering. Also, I know you'd prefer "Knight" in the title as a matter of series continuity, but as an alternative or perhaps a subtitle, how about something like:

Avalon on the Potomac
Camelot on the Potomac

On a side note... Like a lot of folks lately, I'm a long time reader but first time poster, and I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge my tremendous respect for PAD. Carry on, Peter.

I like "Death of Knight". It fits to the title of the first novel. Maybe you can convince your editor. I think with this title she thinks of "Forever Knight", the Canadian TV-series with the Vampire Cop Nick Knight. But I did not come to this comparision, the title does sound nothing like a vampire novel to me. What does a knight have to do with a vampire? Can't understand her conclusion.

But if you have to choose one. From the possibilities which have been posted yet, I liked most:

Knightmare
A Knight to remeber.

I would not play too much with the similarity of Knight and Night. The reference would be to obvious with the most examples here. And that would be poor for such a talented author like PAD. But it is only fair to consider each possibility and take the best.
