The troll hammer just went up on the "Buffy" auction. I bid on it. I'm currently the high bidder. I expect that to last about as long as it takes me to finish typing this entry. But hey, it was fun while it lasted.

Btw, I really hate Anthony Head; per the Giles outfits up for grabs, the man still wears size 34 waist pants. Heck, even Nicolas Brendon's up to a 38. :-)
Huh. Head's about four or so inches taller than me, but wears the same sizes I do.
Although, I think it'd be a bit weird to wear the clothes that someone else wore on TV... and I shudder to think what some people may do with SMG or Eliza Dukshu (Sp?) outfits that're up for sale...

That's Peter's choice. If you think I'm going to shell out the two or three thousand the thing'll probably go for, you can forget it. The only time I spend those kinds of funds is when it's a charity event.

Although according to the small print: "The items listed for sale in this Auction are for decorative use only. They are not to be used for their seemingly functional purposes and are only intended to be sold as collector's items. DO NOT use the items purchased through this Auction for any functional use, whether to store materials, for wearing, ..." (my emphasis).
Admittedly, I doubt that the auction police will come and arrest you if you wear the clothes.
Personally, I agree with you about it feeling a bit weird, and maybe getting close to "buy my worn panties" spam in some cases.
I wonder if they'll start auctioning off other weapons? Having the sword that Buffy impaled Angel with (back in season 2) would be pretty nifty!
I wonder if buying an item means you have full rights to it? If PAD managed to acquire the troll hammer I'd love to see it written into Captain Marvel somehow. Y'know, for continuity's sake. ;-)

So just as a pure exercise in fannish fun, what are the top 5 items from the Buffy show that you would like to bid on? I'm talking actual items, not stuff like Allyson Hannigan in a green teddy.
Off the top of my head....Mr Pointy, obviously, Spike's overcoat, one of the Nerds of Doom's Jetpacks, the Inca Mummy Girl Mummy, Faith's knife....hmmm.

Good choices! There's a number of rings, amulets and assorted jewelry that would be very cool to own. Huge bunch of stuff from the magic store, too. Buffy's trunk where she kept all her weapons, one of the eggs from the egg episode, Buffy's umbrella (smashed, I know, but still), the chocolate poster from her and Willow's dorm.... Well, anyway, it's all out of my price range. But seriously, if they saved all these props, ME or whoever they belong to can make some respectable moolah.
Jetpack, tombstone, Vampyr book, rocket launcher, and a stake (beating out the scythe due to the latter's limited number of appearances).
Things shown or mentioned, but not in actual existance; Giles' music collection, the contents of the library, and Willow's latest laptop that has no problem functioning online sans power or Internet connection. :-)

Someone above mentioned Spike's jacket. I don't have a link, but about two weeks ago I read a panel James Marsters was on at some convention. He talked about the jacket and how it really gross because they had to smear ky jelly on it to keep it looking just right. He said it had this horrible funk to it and it became a joke on the set.

Well, besides Olaf's hammer (currently at over $2,000), I'd love to have the Shadowman outfit (a relative steal at $180). Hell, Gile's satchel would be cool.
As for stuff that isn't up, I always wanted that African mask from Season 3, the one that creates a King of Zombies.
You know what else would be cool? The "slides" that Giles created to narrate who the Gentlemen were.

Now up - Evil Willow's outfit from Doppelgangland. That outta go for a decent price, lol. And Oz's bass guitar. Lot up from Ep 22 of S7...
Raymond: "Mr. Pointy" is a particular stake once owned by another vampire slayer named Kendra. (Kendra was activated when Buffy was dead for a minute or two in "Prophecy Girl.") She loaned the stake to Buffy in season two's "Becoming, Part I", explaining that it was her lucky stake and that she'd killed many vampires with it. Buffy looked at her incredulously and said, "You named your stake?" When Kendra said yes, Buffy said, "Remind me to get you a stuffed animal."
As it turned out, Kendra apparently knew what she was talking about. Bereft of her lucky stake, she was killed ten minutes later by Drusilla. So she never did get a stuffed animal. On the other hand, her death did result in the activation of Faith, so that was a plus. Buffy kept Mr. Pointy. I believe she threatened Dracula with it.

More cool (and appropriately priced) stuff; 3 silver crosses from season 1, the Sunnydale High mascot boar costume, a Spike leather coat and denin jeans combo (not *the* Spikecoat, but still), the garden gnome that had the surveillance camera in the Summers' yard, Riley's commando belt, and Manny's foot from Doublemeat Palace.
Woo-hoo! I've been winning Evil Willow's costume for over 30 minutes now. That's more than I was expecting.
A question:
How do people afford to spend thousands of dollars on "fluff" like this? I mean I collect comics, toys, books, etc., but I don't have an extra 2 or 3 grand laying around that I can just decide to bid on the last pair of pants SMG wore on Buffy. For purchases of even just a couple hundred dollars, I have to budget and save for specific items. Do these people have such mad money just laying around? Are they wealthy? Do they not eat for the rest of the year? How can they afford this?
I'm not poor, but dropping $4000 on one of Buffy's costumes just sounds insane to me...and I buy old, four-color pieces of newsprint for WAY more than cover price (sometimes, anyway). Other people must have much better paying jobs, or no expenses.
I have just always wanted to know how the "Jones'es" manage to keep up.

The crosses actually make me wonder how...legitimate this auction is. If you look at the description, it says they're from episode 16 of season 1. That's right, the 16th episode of a 12-episode season.

Well, per TV Guide, we won't be seeing the scythe go up for auction. That's what Joss is keeping for himself.

Joss Whedon, creator of UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told TV Guide Online that he kept on major prop from the series finale, airing on May 20. "The scythe that appeared at the end of the last episode, episode 20. Buffy finds a scythe, and it happens to be the scythe that Melaka Fray uses in the comic book [Fray] that I wrote, so we decided to bring that to life."
But , that is a really cool weapon/ prop. I wouldn't mind if someone decided to produce a replica of it. I wouldn't mind saving some money just to get one of those.

2. In Tales of The Slayer, Mel calls it scythe.
3. In End of Days the one of the Guardians who created it call it a scythe.
That's why we call it scythe.

Well, no, it's different. In Aquaman's case, the creator of the weapon--i.e., me--always referred to it correctly as a harpoon. Fans who wanted to be condescending and say that I'd turned Aquaman into Captain Hook kept calling it a hook, and that's what others who knew no better called it.
In this instance, it's backwards. The creator is calling it, incorrectly a scythe, and the fans are the ones getting it right.
