"STONE AND ANVIL"

Haven't been near a computer the past couple of days. I've been busy proofreading the copyedited manuscript for "Stone and Anvil," the next New Frontier hardcover. It'll be shipping in October/November of this year, and will be a direct follow-up to the long-awaited "Gods Above." "Gods Above" wraps up the cliffhanger that "New Frontier" fans have been hung up on for some time now.

I turned the CE MS in to John Ordover today, so hopefully we're on target for the pub date.

Finallly.... very anticipated... I want. Badly.

I look forward to these novels as much as I look forward to the next Terry Pratchett.

Excellent.

When does "Gods Above" come out?

In the Previews of July appeared Gods Above, Stone and Anvil and No Limits. For what i know, No limits is a selection of short tales from various writers, tough in the Previews appeared as a compilation of all NF novels to day.

Anyone knows something about that?

As I'm lazy, and can't click the links about 2 inches to the left of this text box, what is the New Frontier series about (the vague, spooiler free version, please)?

Otherwise, picked up Woad to Wuin yesterday, and didn't put it down till 150 pages later...

Hi Adam,

in short: A new ship, a new crew and new adventures written in the typical Peter David style, i so enjoy reading. You get humour, drama, a dose of sex, combined with the other stuff you expect from star trek novels.

Greetings,

Marco

Al wrote, "From what I know, No Limits is a selection of short tales from various writers, though in the Previews appeared as a compilation of all NF novels to date." You're correct; No Limits is an anthology of New Frontier short stories, about the crew and some related characters before we meet them in New Frontier. The one exception is Peter David's story, which will detail Shelby and Calhoun's honeymoon on Xenex.

Hey, what's the chronology for all the novels, published and upcoming? I've only got up to "Restoration" and I'm woefully behind on the reading. But once I get around to catching up, I'd like to rip through all the novels in order.

Posted by: Allyn Gibson at July 28, 2003 10:30 PM

The order for the New Frontier books:

#1 - House of Cards

#2 - Into the Void

#3 - The Two-Front War

#4 - End Game

#5 - Martyr

#6 - Fire on High

The Captain's Table, Book Five - Once Burned

"Double Time" (the New Frontier comic)

Double Helix, Book 5 - Double or Nothing

#7 - The Quiet Place

#8 - Dark Allies

#9 - Excalibur, Book 1: Requiem

#10 - Excalibur, Book 2: Renaissance

#11 - Excalibur, Book 3: Restoration

"A Little Getaway" (forthcoming, short story in No Limits)

Gateways, Book 6 - Cold Wars

"Death After Life" (short story in Gateways, Book 7 - What Lay Beyond)

#12 - Being Human

#13 - Gods Above (forthcoming, paperback)

Stone and Anvil (forthcoming, hardcover)

PAD,

I can't wait to read it. I'll be even happier if "SaA" doesn't end with a cliffhanger that I have to wait years for the conclusion to. ;)

I believe this merits a "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

All three new New Frontier books -- the mass-market paperback Gods Above, the hardcover Stone and Anvil, and the trade paperback anthology No Limits -- will be published in October.

No Limits will include a complete timeline of all the stories involving NF characters.

Hey...my birthday is October 11. Any chance at least one of the three will be out before then so that I can suggest it as a birthday gift? =)

Posted by: Peter David at July 29, 2003 01:32 AM

I can assure you with confidence that "Stone and Anvil" doesn't end on a cliffhanger.

Which isn't necessarily to say that "Gods Above," the book right before it, doesn't...

""Gods Above" wraps up the cliffhanger that "New Frontier" fans have been hung up on for some time now."

Which is why I gave up on the series.

Seemed to have very good potential, but I am NOT thrilled at this idea of cliffhanger endings in novels. Why not have two or three of the books into the one COMPLETE novel, instead of irritatingly splitting them into seperate, INCOMPLETE volumes? Please tell me this was the idea of some loony editor, and not PAD's.

For us writer geeks, out here, Peter, would you mind telling us (or e-mailing me) what kind of writing schedule you work to? As prolific as you are, in various mediums, I'd love to know how you do it. And, if you'd further indulge, what was your writing schedule when you had a full time job and had to fit writing in the cracks?

Posted by: Warren S. Jones III at July 29, 2003 08:52 AM

Peter

I think I speak for all your rabid fans when I state PLEASE DO NOT MAKE US WAIT SO LONG FOR A NEW FRONTIER STORYLINE AGAIN. I just had to get that out of my system.

BTW when is the next Apropos Novel being published and will there be further adventures of this anti-hero?

BTW when is the next Apropos Novel being published.

Book 3, Tong Lashing, should be in stores any day now. Anybody seen it yet?

That's great, I can't wait. Please don't make us wait more than a year for next NF books again! Any idea when the next ones will be?

Posted by: Tobin Lopes at July 29, 2003 01:42 PM

O.k. So I just finished Double Helix #5. Loved it! But I have one question: Who does Robin Lefler's mother look like that Picard and Riker would do a double-take? Unless I'm going to find out in a future New Frontier book I would really like to know. I don't have enough time to read all the ST books so I just read New Frontier-related stuff.

So is it Vash? Leanna?

Thanks.

While I'm not going to answer the question of who Morgan looks like (I'll leave the spoilers to someoen else, thanks!) I must admit to always having been disappointed by this little revelation of PAD's, as it negates my mental visual of Morgan as Naomi Judd.

Posted by: Janice at July 29, 2003 03:26 PM

Naomi Judd....teee heee.

But seriously, I'm sure Ordover is terribly busy these days. If he needs help proofreading any or all of the NF's, I cheerfully volunteer. ;-)

Posted by: Andrew Timson at July 29, 2003 04:35 PM

Who does Robin Lefler's mother look like that Picard and Riker would do a double-take?

You're told between that and #6 Fire on High: she looks like Number One, Pike's first officer.

Posted by: Baerbel Haddrell at July 29, 2003 04:36 PM

That is great news! I am very much looking forward to all three of the NF books.

Not only do I hope that I will get the books quickly but that I will also find plenty of time to read them.

Posted by: Tobin Lopes at July 29, 2003 04:40 PM

So Majel Roddenberry then?! Cool! Thanks!

Posted by: Clay Eichelberger at July 29, 2003 06:28 PM

And it's so very nice to see that PAD hasn't forgotten about Majel in the same way that the current TV producers of Star Trek have. I believe I'm right in saying that if it weren't for Majel (or at least the invocation of her name), several of PAD's most beloved Trek novels wouldn't have made it past the Paramount filter.

PAD--

It's not so much that "Being Human" ended on a cliffhanger--it's that all of the story threads felt so unresolved.

Previous NF books ("Dark Allies", "Requiem", and "Renaissance" are good examples) all left me with two feelings: satisfaction at reaching the end of a particular story, and a burning desire to find out what happens next.

In the end, "Being Human" was just a big tease. A fun, well-written tease.

Or, to be more blunt, it felt like half a book.

Posted by: Rob at July 30, 2003 08:15 AM

I enjoyed the NF books. Read 1-3 and was working on 4 on a plane trip. Someone stole the book during a layover. Had it on the seat next to me, was digging in a bag on the floor and someone lifted it. Never did find out how all that ended...

We still seem to be waiting for Gods above to come out in the UK or if it is i can't find it. Any chance of anyone knowing when it's out here ?

Posted by: Keith R.A. DeCandido at July 31, 2003 12:22 PM

Gods Above hasn't even come out in the States yet. *grin* It's an October release, so it'll start showing up in the UK in November, probably. (You guys on that side of the ocean tend to get things one month after we do.)

Re: time between NF novels. I think Peter has indicated that he originally didn't intend for there to be as big a time gap between them, but other deadlines took priority which pushed back the NF books.

Speaking of other books, I haven't yet seen any notices here from Peter about One Knight Only, the Knight Life sequel. For those who don't like cliffhanger endings, it doesn't end with one.
