EMMA UPDATE

Emma is now out of the hospital. Yesterday at 9 AM was the last time she threw up, so she seems on the mend. They will still be doing the GI work-up, but on an outpatient basis, which is better for all concerned.

Beth and her husband, Rande, extend their thanks to all the well wishes extended. And as soon as there's a definitive GI diagnosis, we will let you know.

Best news I've heard on any front in days. Your niece remains in my good wishes. I hope that things go well.

Glad to hear that, PAD. My hopes that the news stays good.

That's a relief. I'm happy that things are looking better for your niece, PAD.

All my hopes.

Great news, Peter! Hope the culprit is found and permanently defeated.

So very glad to hear that Emma is home and out of danger. I'd asked two nurses and another friend in the medical profession, and the two I just heard back from both suspect that the doc's belief that it's pyloric stenosis is probably accurate, if that helps.

Woo-hoo! Kiss that baby for me. Heck, kiss your babies, too. Always frightening to be reminded how fleeting life and wellness can be, even for the chronically ill...

Peter,

This "diagnosis" is courtesy of my wife, a nurse practitioner (although definietely not specialized in pediatrics). Based on what you've given, her first guess would be reflux. Apparently it's fairly common in kids, and occurs when the cardiac sphincter (between stomach and throat) is not well developed.

And she agrees with your sister about the GI exam (her exact words were "Duh!" when reading that the doctor had finally ordered it!).

That is great news! :)

I hope the result of the GI exam will bring great news, too.

Excellent news -- delighted to hear it.

Let's hope it's all smooth and well-informed sailing from here!

I still say it was prob a simple case of the stomach flu. Glad to hear she is doing better though.
