I’m back

This is the second time in four years that my body has rebelled against me. The first time was nearly four years ago when I had a stroke in Florida that shut down the right half of my body, an event that has residual effects to this day.

This time around, even a week later, I am still a bit uncertain as to what happened. First my left ankle was wracked with pain, and then my right, and then I could no longer stand up. It was as if I was going dead from the waist down, but this time the work of some virus rather than my brain turning against me. Seven days and a buttload of antibiotics later, I am now able to stand up and walk with the aid of a walker that I’ve nicknamed Imperial because really what else are you going to call a walker?

I would like to thank all of you for your well wishes and support for Kathleen and Caroline during these trying times, and my legs are getting stronger every day, so that’s improvement. I’m hoping to be back to normal within another week.

In the meantime, keep buying my books because the hospital bills are going to start flooding in and we could use the help.

  1. Peter, when things looked darkest last week, I was affected in ways that no one’s health scares, not even most of my blood relatives who have either been hospitalized or passed on, have ever affected me. I am so grateful to all the Goddesses & Gods I believe in that you are still with us. Your pulling through my personal silver lining to a dark cloud of a year which I’m glad is almost over.

Love to you and all of yours.

  2. Peter, glad to hear you are on the mend. Your graphic novel, Sir Apropos of Nothing: Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves, was far down my list of reviews for the Boroughcon.com website (not only is the day job cutting into my comic reading, but I’ve just be hired as an assistant professor of law at Hofstra Law School, running a Free Veterans Legal Clinic). However, I’ll see about getting the review uploaded this week. My 14 year old, who loved Fearless, had grabbed the graphic novel from me a couple of weeks ago, and I just managed to get it back. Hope the mend is quick and that you are back on your feet soon.

  3. Welcome back! While it’s not fun to be recovering from anything, it sounds like you are well on your way to getting back to normal. In the meantime, good luck with Walker, Household Roamer. And happy post-holidays!

  4. Glad to read that you’re home Peter. Hope you fully recover and get well enough to attend your scheduled con.

  5. I’m glad you’re getting better. When I had my legs stop working, they stayed that way, so I’ve been worried about you. I recommend the Nitro Walker should you need one long term.

  6. Peter & Family: Best wishes as you continue to work toward a full recovery–and a very Happy 2017!!

  7. Mr. David, I am so glad to read that you are improving and I get the impression that a full recovery is expected and I am even more happy of that. I am ashamed to admit that I was allowing superstitious thoughts of the dreaded 2016 dance through my head. I tell myself over and over that I don’t really believe such things, that the year isn’t cursed or anything like that. However, such things get lodged in the consciousness anyway and refuse to leave. I look forward to hearing from you in the new year.

    Best wishes.

  8. Glad to have you back, Mr. David. Have as happy a new year as circumstances permit and stay well.

  9. Glad to have you back, PAD. My dad was in the hospital for a couple of days this week as well, so it’s been a bumpy end-of-year for far too many people. Very, very glad that you’re on the mend — as Brian said, stay well!
