Young Justice: No, I have NOT Met with Netflix!

“Mr. David, what are the chances of ‘Young Justice’ getting a third season?”

“Well, I had lunch with Greg Weisman a few weeks ago, and he said that Netflix is seriously considering ordering a third season because they’re impressed with how much people are watching it. So if you want to make it happen, keep on doing that.”

That’s what I’ve been saying for the past month, countless times, ever since I had lunch with Greg before San Diego. Seems pretty straightforward.

And suddenly I’ve been getting barraged with tweets and emails from fans asking me if it’s true that I’ve had a meeting with Netflix about writing the third season. Why? Because someone asked me the question at the recent Terrificon in Connecticut and, rather than report the answer I’ve given at least a hundred times, he instead provided his own version. I’ve no doubt it was an innocent mistake, but it’s caused a MAJOR headache for me.

Furthermore I’m now worried it could do damage to the cause, because people might think, “We did it! There’s gonna be a third season, done deal!” and then stop watching. Which would then cause Netflix to say, “Hunh, people have stopped watching, guess it was just a passing fad,” and that’s that.

So I will say it once more: It is NOT a done deal. So continue watching “Young Justice” if you want to have a hope of a third season.

  1. Well, I only saw a smattering of episodes here and there, (mostly the back half of season 1 and the front half of season 2), before I cut cable. I’ve been meaning to catch up on it if I ran across it.

So, I’ll now take this as the signal to find YJ on Netflix, add it to my queue and get to watching. Third season or not, I’ll still have the two seasons to enjoy.

  2. So, wait… you mean… not everything we read on Reddit or Facebook… is true?!
    .
I don’t have Netflix so I can’t help with this… but I was extremely excited to see the “Netflix reportedly interested in season 3 of Young Justice” thing on the FB sidebar… then got even MORE excited to see the headline that you were “in talks” with them… and then crashed back to merely excited when I came here to see what you had to say *g*
    .
They’d be fools to not talk to you when they get further down the road, though!

  3. Well, I (re)watched the whole first season when they put it on Netflix and then immediately watched the entire second season when they (finally!) added that on. Hadn’t heard anything about the possibility of a third season. I assumed that YJ was at the “stick a fork in it” stage years ago. But if it’s possible that there might be more episodes…

I’m a tax accountant and work late this time of year. After normal hours I often have an audio book or Netflix playing in the background, specifically something that I’ve seen/listened to before so that it’s just background instead of something that demands my full attention. It helps me keep going at late hours better than complete silence. I just added YJ back into my queue so that I can have that be what’s playing late at night.

p.s. Today is my birthday and even a small hope of new YJ eps is great gift. Thanks.

  4. @David Hunt: “I assumed that YJ was at the “stick a fork in it” stage years ago. But if it’s possible that there might be more episodes…”

As a broadcasting dork with a degree in the field (even did an in-class presentation on the complex, non-ratings factors that did in DC Nation once, come to think), it’s fascinating to say that it seems like nothing is in the “stick a fork in it” stage permanently anymore (excepting cases where producers or cast members are disinterested or unavailable). Streaming services thrive on original content, studios and production companies are pretty well always down to get paid, and reviving an old series that’s popular on your service is a safe original content bet.

  5. I’m going to be honest, I never really warmed up to the TV version of Young Justice. I loved the comic book version, though.

    Also, I don’t have Netflix.

    1. I liked the cartoon, but thought it was cancelled when it stopped running on CN.

Don’t have Netflix, so it’s as good as cancelled for me unless they do a properly-priced DVD release… (looking at you HBO and your over-priced 10 episode seasons of GoT on DVD/Blu-Ray)

  6. I want there to be a better bridge between season 1 and 2. the 5 year gap was disorienting. it alienated some fans. also i feel that the characters were not as devolped in some places in season 2
