Spider-Man 2099

The news is officially out on Newsarama so I can tell you guys now: Yes, I will be writing the new Spider-Man 2099 comic. When word of this first circulated weeks ago, I really did NOT know I’d be on board. Marvel only contacted me two weeks ago about it.

The first issue ships in July. Be sure to be there.

  1. Couldn’t believe in such a Thwippy news. I’ll be there. Congratulations Peter!!!

  2. HAHAH YES! I so called this in the other thread *fist pump*!

In the last ten years or so, there have been only 2 must read comics that I had to pick up and follow no matter what else was going on in life. The JMS Spidey and the Morrison Batman. This just made that list.

It is kinda odd that Marvel only contacted you recently, you’d think with this being announced months ago theyd have a writer lined up and there ducks lined in order sooner. It’ll be interesting to see what storylines you pull out in such rapid succession!

    1. Yeah, one would think that a title is planned much more ahead. Is that because the first (or more) storyline is editor-driven ?
      Anyways, I’ll be on board.

  3. There are SO few comics that get me excited these days. I’m so happy to hear this. July can’t get here soon enough.

How will this work in terms of continuity? I know there were some “revelations” in the old Spidey 2099 book after you were off it that didn’t mesh with what you had planned. Any chance you’ll be getting the character back on your old track, or is it “pick up where the character is now”?

  4. Tried to post this as a guess in the orher thread but either there was a technical glitch or you didn’t want any spoilers 🙂 I’m excited!

  5. Looking forward to it, can’t wait to add it to my pull list. Now when does that July issue of Previews ship?! 🙂

      1. Okay, he’s doing the cover of issue 1. Still, that’s one hëll of a beautiful cover, and Will Sliney’s sketches look nice.

  6. Sweetness. Can’t wait for more adventures with the best Spider-man… Miggy O’hara.

  7. I haven’t read Superior Spider-Man yet. Have we found out exactly when in the timeline Miggy was taken from?

I’ve gotten the impression from previews that it is after Miguel and Tyler have admitted that they know about their relationship, which was pretty much the last thing PAD wrote. I’m hoping it’s before the meteor hit and effectively ended the 2099 line. That way there’s still hope for changing the future to avert that and continuing the story where PAD left off someday.

    1. It wasn’t exactly clear, but it definitely seemed like it somewhere in the middle of the original PAD storyline as Tyler Stone played a role in Miggy going back in time to the Superior storyline (he’d died towards the end of the original series), which means that the character we see should be free of the clutter that occurred after the 2099 line was cancelled and folded into the lamentable “2099: World of Tomorrow” book.

  8. Noted! Congrats, Peter–looking forward to Miguel O’Hara’s new adventures!

(Now it would be a good time for me to go back and replay the SPIDER-MAN: SHATTERED DIMENSIONS and SPIDER-MAN: EDGE OF TIME videogames!)

  9. This has me hoping this means Marvel will get back to putting out trades of the original series. While the volumes that are out cover most of the stories I missed the first time around, the issues I own (from around 20 or so to the end) have been almost literally read to tatters (see also: Aquaman and the Gary Frank issues of Incredible Hulk. A pattern? I don’t think so…).

  10. Peter,
Can you advise if Marvel’s told you anything about us getting a finale to the Hulk Visionaries paperback collection?
We’ve been stuck at Vol. 8 for 3 years now & I’m dying to see my favorite arcs collected in a finish to your run. Ideally, they’d pick up where they left off & we’d finally get to see your fantastic work with Gary Frank & the climaxing tale of the Pantheon.
I would think you’d have an insiders perspective, but possibly not.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, as I’ve been patiently waiting to re-read the arcs for too long.
Also, how bad ášš would a Marvel Cinematic take on Joe Fixit & the Banner hulk be? I’ve also been patiently waiting for that.
    Thanks!
